I've seen several trailers and such for other AGS games that display in game footage, and was wondering what is the best way to go about capturing quality footage of an AGS game in action? Thanks for any advice!
FRAPS is your best bet, but will only work with the Direct 3D 9 graphics driver. You can try a free trial version of the software. Do not upload the result avi files directly to youtube or any other video sharing platform, they need to be compressed before. The usual workflow is to import the raw uncompressed avi files that FRAPS creates into a video editing program, edit your footage and then render out a compressed video file. That you can upload to youtube, vimeo etc.
The other free option is CamStudio (http://camstudio.org/).
here is another free option -> http://www.uvnc.com/screenrecorder/
Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll got check those out!
Sorry about the double post, but I've installed FRAPS, but I cannot get it to record while the game is open. Whenever I start recording and open the game, the game does not run correctly and does not even show up in the recorded footage. Anyone know how to fix this?
Is it an AGS game and did you run it with Direct3D graphics driver? Run it in windowed mode as well, just to be on the safe side (although this shouldn't matter). The game should run just fine with a yellow FPS counter in the top left corner of the window. If that isn't the case, what exactly do you get?
EDIT: Just re-read your post, you have to start FRAPS (DON'T record yet) the game and when it's running you start recording! That's the order!
Ok, I wasn't running it in Direct3D before (which was most likely the cause of that problem), but when I switch it to Direct3D, it will not allow me to run the game, and I get the following error message: "There was a problem initializing graphics mode 640x400 (16 bit) (Problem: 'The requested adapter mode is not supported').
It is an AGS game btw. Is this simply a problem with my computer (and perhaps its graphics card) now? (It's a tad on the old side)
