I was wondering if anyone could recomend a book/website that would help someone who's not particually technically minded learn how to do scripting? I'm coming at this from an art/design area, and though I use computers alot this whole scripting thing just baffles me. I really want to learn it, I want to get more into computer based design/animation stuff.
Hope people can help!
Chris
Since I know you are posting here, this means that you have read all of the "READ FIRST" threads that are here. like this one : "READ FIRST: Web-based manual tutorials" Because that is what you are looking for.
http://www.agsforums.com/acintro.htm
or you can either open up that manual/help file you just found out where it is, and either do a search for tutorial, or use the one on the web.
Yeah, I used those tutorials when i first downloaded ags. The other scripting tutorials I found confused me quite alot. I think if I can understand how scripting actually works and stuff I'll find it easier to figure out how to use, not to mention that having a book that explained scripting would be usefull for when i go to uni.
Then you could take a look for C sytem scripting. I took that class like 2 years ago, and that helped a lot with scripting in AGS.
Is that a book? I did a search for it and I only got 1 hit, which wasn't relavent...
C is a scripting language, similar to what AGS uses.Ã, "C system scripting" isn't an actual title of anything.
I'd suggest that you try to do things with the interactions editor. At the bottom of the window, it shows the script that would do the same thing as the interaction option.Ã, It will help you get familiar with the way lines of script are laid out.Ã, As you become familiar with the set-up, the tutorials will start to make a bit more sense.
That's basically how I figured out how to use the scripting functions (though I still mostly use the interactions editor ;))
Well there you go, just shows how little I actually know about it! I'll try and work stuff out as I go along, just don't complain when my head explodes...
