Title: Smooth pictures
Post by: DonB on Tue 13/12/2005 13:11:00
So, I use 640x480 for good detailed smoothened pictures from photoshop, but if i do fullscreen, it's ugly as hell, so thats why I keep it small-windowed.. is there any way to make it fullscreen with just that resolution (maybe just black darkness around the 640x480 screen)

I use the same program to do my backgrounds but don't have that problem. This may be a stupid question but did you make the right selection on the palette when you started your game?

Take another look at the tutorial it should point you in the right direction.

Hi DonB,

well that's the problem of resolution. If you view your game in fullscreen mode the background image will be stretched to fill your screen which means the 640x480 pixels will be enlarged to fit the 1024x768 (or even 1280x1024) resolution of your monitor.
This results in an unavoidable distortion.

The effect is worsened if you use a flat screen monitor (for example TTF).

I don't think it is possible with AGS to have the game run in the original resolution (i.e. windowed mode) with a black border filling the rest of the screen.

Thanks, Themagician, that was my question, then I'll stick with the windowed mode..

Maverick, I think u understand my question wrong, theres nothing wrong, the bg fits perfectly in, only i just dont like the stretched out thing when u do full screen.. its not smooth anymore.. so I will stick to windowed mode..

thanks for your effords, appreciated

Yeah, its a problem with poor pixel doubling on lcd screens.  My laptop looks absolutely horrid in full-screen, but fine in windowed.

With other words, better to make it windowed version..

This is really a non-issue, since the user can easily change from windowed to full screen before running the game.
Also, just because it looks bad on your monitor doesn't mean it'll look bad on another monitor (eg a CRT or a 1280x1024 LCD).

Agreed.
This really comes down to personal preference, so unless there's an actual, technical question you want to ask, I'm going to lock this thread.

anywayz.. I got a samewise sort of topic on the critism forum, with some better technical question in it and screenshots, so you can lock/delete this one if u like..
