Hey guys,

Blargh. I don't understand what has happened. I've gotten some midi music from my composer and I wanted to hear it in the game to test how it works with it. I had already had music in it from other games, so I swapped "music2" with the new "music2" and now all of a sudden the music doesn't play. The SFX still work fine.

I've tried all sorts of different things such as deleting the music from the music folder, saving the game, putting the music back in the music folder, saving the game then testing it. Still no music...???

Thanks in advance,

Khris

Do your other tracks still work?
If so, the midi file might me corrupted.

Snake

Nope, no midi music will work anymore. But the SFX still work fine.

Hopefully this makes sence to somebody...

Snake

This may seem pretty obvious but I had the same problem once and in the end the volume control was muted.

EDIT
Take a look at THIS thread.
Or This one.

Khris

Yep, also there are probably 50 threads about midi music not working. One of them is bound to have the solution :)

Okay guys, thank you, I'll take a look at those threads.

EDIT
HA! No shit! I don't understand why this is happening since I've never had Media Player open while running the game and the music always worked fine, now it's only playing when Meadia Player is open...???

OH, and other games work fine too whether or not it's open...
I really don't get this...

Complete guess... has the MIDI music sound option in your game changed to one that doesn't work, but when Media Player is open it forces your game to use another sound device that works? Why are there so many issues with MIDI? I couldn't get them to play in games for ages until I found SW Synth volume control was turned down

Snake

I just tried that a second ago and behold, someone had turned it down all the way.

Can't people leave things alone ;)

Thanks for all of your help guys, I wish I had found that earlier.
I knew it didn't make sence because the day before it happened it worked fine, then all of a sudden my music isn't on...

Mine too, when I checked when I was writing that reply. Doing something in Windows obviously turns it right down...

BAM found it!

Try this out, set your SW Synth level to the middle. Open a MIDI in Media Player. Check the level, its now at the top. Close Media Player. Check the level, its now right at the bottom. Its all Media Player's fault!

Snake

HA!

Damn you Media Player!

Does anyone know of a way that will stop this?
I tried looking in the Media Player Properties and all of it's options but I couldn't find anything.

I asked the same thing a while ago. I think it's actually a bug in WMP11. Try using WinAmp or another sound player to play your midis. Or, if you really want to use WMP, maybe an older version will work, like WMP10.
Check out my games! (Not all made with AGS)

Ah yeah, just seen your post so I guess you beat me to it. A quick Google search suggests Media Player's control of your MIDI volume goes back to the days of Media Player 6.4, if not earlier, and it seems to be built into Media Player so you can't stop it. Solution is to use something else to play the MIDI then, or put up with changing the volume back again.

Here's a question:

Would I be able to download the older version I used to have (years and years ago - that is if I can find it - I also have it on a disc (you know, those compact discs? har) somewhere incase I can't find it online) and run it seperately? I don't want to get rid of the newer version since somebody uses it.

Heh, it's all nostalgic really, the old mediaplayer. I remember listening to all of the Willy Beamish songs with it from off the CD :) I love that one, so simple and yet perfect.

Start>>Run>>mplay32.exe

You may not have to find it on disk  ;D

Edit: And brief tests suggest it doesn't affect the MIDI volume, and will play side by side with Media Player 11
