Game made in AGS 2.14. Can I even play it in Windows 7?

Hi all.

I'm trying to get Pirate Fry to play in Windows 7 (32 bit) to no avail. Fiddling with compatibility hasn't helped me much. I have a Dos version and a Win version, neither work.

I'm pretty sure I made it in v. 2.14 of AGS, around 2001.

Any ideas? Sorry if this is a common and annoying question, my search brought up nothing.

Thanks!

2.14? Getting on a bit I guess.

Any, would http://www.dosbox.com/ this be of any help?

Dosbox did it, minus the crappy Midis I used :)

Thanks muchly.

I would suggest porting it, but the amount of hassle switching from a 2.1.x version to 3.x would most likely not be worth it. Not to mention you'd (still) need to have the source images, sounds etc. Still, whatever works!

I amazingly have most of it backed up, but have no desire to put that effort into it :)

Any interested in a stroll down memory lane can just do what I did.

When you try to run the Windows version, do you get any error message?

Squinky

It told me that it could not set the video mode. Weird huh?

Khris

No, it's actually what I expected. Win7 doesn't support 320@fullscreen.
You could try changing the resolution to 640, I don't know the settings of 2.14 though.

The other option is a virtual machine, e.g. Win98 in VirtualPC or VirtualBox. That takes some time to set up though so it's probably not worth the effort.
