I need stand-in graphics!

Okay, this is probably an intensely dumb question, and one that's been answered many times before. But here goes:

I've started planning and writing my very first game, and now I want to start building it. However, I need some temporary graphics for the characters, backgrounds, etc. My hope is to find some talented artist-types and entice them to draw ~pretty pictures~ for me, once I have enough of a build to show them (and prove I'm not a complete hack), but until then I just need some stick figures. What's the best way to go about making some very basic stand-in graphics? What kind of resolution do I need to scan at? What file type do I need to save as? Any recommendations?

Please treat me nice. I'm dumb.

you could always use roger, the AGS standard dummy character.

Whack out your old reliable MS Paint.
I've been using a mixture of Paint with photos from Google images, to give me an idea of perspective and some reference points.

This is just 'programmer art'. I just want to get the game playable from beginning to end before worrying about nice backgrounds.

After you choose a resolution (320x2X0, 640x4X0, 800x600 or 1024x768), you create images as big as that, or bigger for scrolling rooms. Save them as PNGs, but it doesn't really matter since AGS imports them and stores them in its own format.

One rule though: whatever you do, don't save anything as JPEG.

There is always "Reality on the Norm" It's a set of graphics and characters used for a shared universe of AGS games. Just do a google search. Great for stand ins.

I hope you don't mind if I now make all my room backgrounds with that technique now.

I 2nd that idea, it's a GREAT resource for those us just starting out with AGS. You've got a whole town full with backgrounds and characters to play around with.

Here's a like to the forum that discusses the RoN universe...
RoN Forum

and here is the site where you can find all the games and resources for the RoN universe...
RoN Resource Site

Heck after all is said and done, you might even want to release what you've done as a RoN game when you're finished.

On the other hand, if all you truely want is just stick figures...

BTW, there's more on those pages that you might be able to use.
