Title: templates and character files not recognized
Post by: salak on Thu 11/07/2013 19:41:50
I use Xp SP3 and have the last version of AGS installed. I put template files with agt extension to main AGS directory and also templates directory but they don't appear on the template selection scene. Importing external character files (.cha) result on an error message. Is it about compatibility, should I have an older version of AGS?

Well,

all templates should go INTO the folder named 'Templates' which is in the main AGS Folder.

If you don't have a folder named Templates then make one.

thanks, that folder exists and template files are in it, still they don't appear. I downloaded the templates from americangirlscouts resource page and characters from maniac mansion mania. my .net framewok version is 2.0. I wrote these in case there's something about compatibility.

Yeah, if the template is too old, it won't get displayed. The solution is NOT to switch to an older version of AGS, but to get a better template.
It is true that a lot of the stuff on the resources page is really outdated, and I shudder thinking about the code some of those have in them.

What exactly are you looking for?
There are starter packs for maniac mansion mania for current versions, and they usually have all the characters in them.

thanks a lot.

actually, the template I tried to use is called "AGS Left and Right Click Open Source Template (ALARCOST)", I wanted a simple way of interacting with game, clicking to hotspots/objects.

I haven't looked at this (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=48638.0) template yet, but it was just released and should do what you need.
