Put them in whatever folder you want.  When you open the editor it gives you the options to:

1) start a new game.
2) Continue an existing game.
3) Continue a recently edited game.

If you chose the second option (continue an existing game) a browse window will appear and you can find where you saved the template (most of my game folders are on my desktop for convenience's sake).  Simply load the ac2game file in the template's folder.  Once you've edited it once you should be able to chose it from the recently edited list.

Use the first option instead, you must "Start a new game" to use a template.

To answer your question, put them in the same directory the AGSEdit.exe is in. You know, together with the other three .agt files.

Since AGS3.0 will open only its own or 2.72 game files, I assume the same is true for templates. I haven't tried it though.

I don't know if there's something to do with what version of AGS the template was saved in. If it's the case that V3 won't open templates made by an old version, try to open that template with V2.72 and save it as a game. You should be able to load and upgrade that "game" with V3 then. (I think)

Have you tried saving it into a game in V2.72 and then reload it in V3 as I suggested?

Okay, I have a similar problem. I've downloaded the MI2 template...I have both AGS v3 and v2.72 but with neighter of them I can't open the template. With v3 it gives me a big list of errors when I try to open it through the AGS Wizard->Open existing game. With 2.72 it displays a simple error message - "Game not found". :( What shall I do?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I have tried with ScummVm GUI too and it doesn't work :(
EDIT: I have tried with Simon The Sorcerer 2 and it doesn't work :(:(
