Title: The compiler
Post by: on Sun 16/04/2006 14:30:03
I was wondering if there is a way to make a stand alone EXE file for your game, with just the EXE, and the speech and music VOX files?

Also, is there a way to get rid of all those messages that say what I made the game with on the actual icon? If you want people to know what I made my game with, I'll post a big cool message ad at the starting of my game.. haha.

So does anyone know how I can change the icons around, and make a stand alone EXE? And I don't want that game setup thing either.

Thanks

Read the manual (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/DistGame.htm), and Search the forums.
When you select 'Save Game' from the menu it creates the EXE (along with VOX files if needed) in the 'Compiled' folder, in the Game's folder. That's it, the stand alone EXE of your game. If you don't want the setup EXE, just delete it - it's not actually needed for the game to run.

Icons ... You mean the EXE Icon, or the '?' button on the ICONBAR GUI? Changing the EXE Icon is explained in the manual (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/Custom%20icon.htm). The GUI button is just a case of editing the Control Function to display whatever you want instead (SEARCH THE FORUMS if you need more detail on how to do that.
Title: The compilier

Ok, I didn't explain well enough what I wanted to do last time, and for some reason, the topic is locked, so I had to start a new one. Sorry.

I was to get rid of the part where it says

(Game Name)
Adventure Game Studio run-time
Chris Jones

I want to remove those two last lines. I want to eliminate them completly from the exe file. Is there a way to do that? Is there a certain program on the internet that can do that?

Thanks

why the hell would you want to?

I locked the topic originally as I thought you were asking questions answered very clearly in the manual. Since you're not, I've unlocked it, and merged the second thread in.

AFAIK, there's no way to remove those lines and, as Hammerite asked, why exactly would you want to? It's not like they're massively intrusive.

Haha, it's fine. I figured out how to remove the lines myself. I used a decompiler. Am I aloud to do that?

If AGS only wants credit for my game, I'll add a popup thing at the start of my game advertising the company, but I don't want the stuff on my EXE.

EDIT:
Is there a lisence for the program AGS itself?

I was going to suggest something like that, but didn't as I'm fairly sure you wouldn't be allowed to ... You'd have to get an answer from CJ (Pumaman (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=1)) since he basically IS the 'company' of AGS. You could maybe try PMing him.

Yes there is a license, in the manual... it's extremely easy to find.Ã,  I'm not sure what you are really asking about, you want to remove all trace of AGS from the EXE? If that's the case then you should probably read this part:

Quote
Anything you distribute which has been created with AGS MUST retain the Version resources unaltered in order to display the AGS version and copyright in the Version tab of the EXE properties

You are allowed to replace the icon with a resource editor, that's all (and it's not really necessary now in later AGS versions).
