Title: Unable to create new game
Post by: Meshle on Fri 06/02/2015 06:53:10
Hi all,

I'm very new to AGS--so new I haven't made anything, but I wanted to spend the weekend trying it out. Unfortunately, when I installed and started up the editor, I kept running into an error message every time I tried to type in my file name, game name, and folder. Selecting any folder to save files into generated the error message "The folder name you have specified includes some invalid characters. Please use just letters and numbers." Leaving that line entirely blank, but filling in a file name and game name prompts the error message "You must type in a file name and game name to continue."

I'm running the editor on Parallels/Windows 7, 64-bit if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help! Apologies in advance if I'm being extremely stupid and missing something obvious.

edit: I've tried uninstalling, redownloading, and reinstalling the editor, but no luck.

Could you, please, tell what are the values you entered?

I typed "PracticeGame" into both fields.

This seems to be a known issue which unfortunately it appears does not yet have a solution:

Goddamnit. Thanks for your help! I can try installing Windows on Boot Camp and see if the issue is resolved there.

Don't know if anyone's been following this, but here's an update: I tried running AGS Editor on VirtualBox and Boot Camp. On VirtualBox it was so slow it was essentially unusable; on Boot Camp, it works fine (so far).
