Importing updated background

Is it possible to import an updated background without redoing all the walk areas, hotspots, etc?  When I've loaded a background and then import the same updated background, it says that everything will be cleared.  I'm sure there's a way of doing this without having to redo all the work?

I don't think it should do that if the image dimensions/color depth are the same. If it still does, then I'm in a shitload of trouble with my own temp backgrounds  .

Actually I think you hit on it.  The updated background I'm trying to import is a slightly different size than the original.  I tested it and if the dimensions aren't changed then everything stays the same.
