A true story. A tale of pure drama. I was made aware of the fifty-five-words story competition just 4 minutes before midnight. Time for me to read the rules, it was already three to midnight. Was I going to make it? The clock was ticking. Counting the words... Only a few seconds left. Midnight. Ther--

The plate explodes against the wall behind me and I let out an agonized scream. Another hisses past my flinching shoulder. She grabs a kitchen knife and as she raises her arm to throw it, the door behind her swings open knocking the knife out of her hand and into the skull of our son.

”Take you back? After what you said, you expect me to believe that you suddenly care about me again?”
”My sweetheart, you're overreacting, I've always loved you! You must've misheard!”
”I know what I heard.”
”But, honey, I just said…”
”Yes? What did you say?”
”I just said… 'frankly, dear, I'd want me some ham!'”

„Deer!“ she screamed and grabbed the wheel. She made the car pass by the deer faster than he ever could have reacted.

Then he lost control over the car, slipped off the road and crashed into a tree. Three passengers painfully died in the resulting fire. Safety belts are hard to open when you're injured.

VIPER IN THE GRASS

“So I say, Whatever!  And I put on her pants instead!”
The company roared with laughter as Reggie shook his hips sassily and made his imitation of a feminine gait around the table.  He sat down to back-slapping and another Coors Light.
His wife sipped her dry martini, and plotted.

"How're things with your girlfriend?"
Esteban swallowed and ran his fingers through his hair. He tried to sip some water but his hands were shaking and it spilled.
"What?" I pressed.
His face darkened. His eyes darted from the surface of the table, to the wall behind me.
"Esteban?"
Finally he croaked "She's my sister."

Beryl looked at her husband and sighed.  It was their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, but he wouldn't know it â€" or who she was.  Hell, he wouldn't even know himself â€" apart from as a mischievous schoolboy!  That's what dementia had done to him.  To Beryl… she was no longer his wife, she was his carer.

I wish there were only three good stories to choose ... but these texts ...
...make me live ... a true and agonizing drama! Let me choose at least 7!
I beg to you, Selmiak !!! PLEASE MAN! Real writers are participating in

Did you mean this? Or do you mean after the results have been announced?

there must be more than just voting?!

I won't reveal any author, but won't guess on who wrote which story either, as I know it and it somehow takes away some of the suspense. The only drama left is the results...

I think Stupot+ meant that the quoted statement seems to suggest that authors are allowed to reveal which story they wrote if they want to, but that might influence the voting, so did you mean that authors should wait until after the voting is completed before revealing which story they wrote?

I'm just saying I, as the host, won't reveal any authorship. If someone wants to reveal his/her authorship I can't stop you. I also won't tell if someone claims to have written what he didn't write, nor will I tell you if I submitted 2 stories or none ;)

If I knew it was allowed to send more than one story ...
I would have sent just one story ... like i did...  :(

By the way... this stories are so amazing that I've been
wanting to say that i made all the texts!

In that case, I wrote all the stories.

Congrats to number 7.
I voted for 2, 6 and 7, so I predicted pretty well.
Mine was number 3. Can't argue with joint third :-)

Congrats Myinah!  I wrote 6, but voted 2, 3 & 7.  We should do this more often!

Now that the word is out I can finally congratulate myinah. Thanks to everyone who did send in a 55 word story!

Of course we should do this more often, but imho not too often, like once a month or once every 2nd month to not distract from the fortnight writing compo and to not lose this special feel ;)

I enjoy these 55-word stories a hell of a lot. This one was hard though. Despite probably using the word 'drama' several times a day, it made me realise I don't really get what it actually means to be 'dramatic'. Certainly not in 55 words. But yeah I'll always be up for this game.

We're probably overdue for another chain story soon, too. (nod)
Maybe we could do a chain story where each entry is just 55 words. :P
