Hi all!
Thanks for voting for me in the last Blitz. And the new topic is ...
Wonderland
This time show us something, that deserves the name "Wonderland". What is your wonderland? Is it an amusement park? Is it a beautiful fantasy world with waterfalls "falling" into the yellow sky? Is it the Land of the Talking Avocados or a nightmarish place with unbelievable torture machines? It's up to you!
Your background
- must provide a wonder (like an upsidedown house, the waterfall falling upwards, a strange plant or something like that)
- shouldn't have more than 30 colours.
- can have any size you can choose in the AGS
If anything is unclear or you have questions ... just ask :)
Voting will start on April 15th.
cheers

Five days to go and no entries? Come on! ^^
Unfortunately I'm off the internet beginning on friday. So it would be cool, if one of the moderators could start voting and bring the Blitz to an end. Thanks in advance! :)
cheers

I'm too busy with all kind of thing to enter. But the topic is great. BB's are like boilers, they start so slow but when they are off they are awsome! try not to worry ;)
If I had checked back to the forums a little earlier, I could have participated... but then again, 5 days is enough time to make a good bg.
To continue useless posting, the themem is exellent. But as I'm working mornings and have every afternoon booked, well, I'll see if I have time on weekend. I most hope so, I really feel like drawing one, and I need the practise.
I don't know how I missed this one till now, well here you go. It's not exactly my ideal fantasyland or anything, but behold, the floating orb.

Of course the walkable area has to be invisible in the sky so the player can cut a piece of cheese out of the moon ;)

Wow, some great entries coming in.
Probably won't be able to enter this one. But good luck to all the entrants.
Okay, I'm off now. May some moderator bring this competition to an end. Good luck to all the participants.
hey TheJburger that is excellent!! What program did you use to make that one?
MSPaint, no doubt. ;)

Thanks, I used Photoshop CS and a mouse.
It looks great!
I think Neil Dnuma's is excellent. It would work really well as a Background, with maybe the character in a boat, or just used in a cut scene. The whole scene has lots of character, and the water looks very good as well.

The models are not mine so I'm not sure if this BG is allowed.
Allrightie, let's commence the voting. You know the drill.
My votes all categories go to Neil Dnuma. Good work lad!
Thanks, Andail and markbilly :) Still unsure whether putting the night sky on the daylit scene was a worthy gimmick, but at least it increases the "wonder element".
--MY VOTES:
Idea: cat. An interesting place to visit, quite bizarre.
Atmosphere: TheJBurger. Good, cold color scheme. It's peaceful, yet dramatic.
Design: TheJBurger. Nice mountain shapes and a good looking ship. This is Antarctica, right?
Composition: TheJBurger. Nice and classic. Perfect establishing shot.
Functionality: Mr. Buckéthead. Very readable BG. I like this one, and it has quite a nice balance of tones. I think the color reduction treated it a bit hard though.
Technique: TheJBurger. I'd like to see the full color version of this one. The reduction artifacts are hurtful, especially in the sky. Still, you can tell the palette is carefully chosen, so it's really not too bad. I just believe the full color one is stunning:) Great BG again JBurger!
no offence jburger, the image looks great. but it could be any northern area, not much of a wonderland in the form of what the contest rules ask for
i go for Neil Dnuma to win on all accounts
I agree, all goes to Neil Dnuma.
Although, TheJBurger, that is fantastic, it doesn't have the individuality. I really wish I could draw that well though!
All to the BurgerMeister!
I don't what it is, JBurger, but I love every one of your drawings. It's like they speak to me. I think that place is a Wonderland, I'd love to be any place that beautiful.

Functionality: Mr. Buckéthead - although im not that fond with that you didnt do your own models :)
Technique:TheJBurger
And just want to say this, Im not accusing or talk to any partical. But is it really that easy that all votes go to one background? Yes, TheJburger have done a very goodlooking background, but is it really that functional? same with neil Dnuma, awesome looking background, but does it really have the funtionality of an adventure-game background? Do they have as good walkareas and clear entrance and exits, can you imagine playing on it? I know this isnt that serious competition and "just" for fun, but I think some of the backgrounds doesnt get the credits they deserv. Even if they dont have the visual appeal, they can still be damn functional and have great ideas. Once again, not saying you are voring wrong or anything, but maybe there is worth put a second thought when voting.

I vote for Neil Dnuma. Nice image! :)
i thnk dnuma's piece has a very good rowable area. i have the same thing to say about bucketheads piece as i did for jburger. it doesnt have any "wonder" to it. just looks like some japonese or chinese garden. Orator. why not goto a place like greenland im sure you would find scenery just like that. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/images/0611/greenland-kayak.jpg.
the rules should have been read better. i dont see any waterfalls flowing upwards or giant flying whales in either of those pieces to put the real wonder in them
I consider JBurger's entry to be a wonderland like a scene from Lord of the Rings. It's got huge sweeping angles that are just jaw-droppingly beautiful. It doesn't have to be fantastical, just something that could be called wonderful. And I hear great things about Greenland.
Neil Dnuma's is somewhat less epic, but a background I'd be more than proud of.
And you know what? You're right. Mr Dnuma's background is more functional. If at all possible, I'd like to change my functionality vote in favor of Mr Dnuma.
I just did a quick count and came up with 21 votes for neil and 13 for jburger, so unless we're waiting for nihylist to return or a moderator, I suppose we could just continue to the next round. Nice entries btw.
Speaking of nihilyst ... here I am back again. I think the voting clearly indicates our new winner: Neil Dnuma. Congratulations for your background: it's simple and effective. The other backgrounds were good as well. Perhaps you will win next time ...
Neil is next.
Cool, thanks for the votes!
I'll start a new one soon.
