Good Luck Everyone!
DAMN YOU ROCC! :P
Oh well, I like a challenge.
Does it have to be "pixel perfect"?
now that's a cool theme. maybe give out a fixed value for the angles, like 45° or 30/60° so that the entries look something alike when next to another...
Dammit, my one weakness!

Yeah you are right, good call. i will put a rule of 30º/30º this time to not overcomplicate contestant
QuoteAll contestant must draw an Isometric Background
Ouch! I'll give it a try, but I expect terrible results...
By the way, what are the games in that picture,
Rocchinator? I think the fourth one is
Veil of Darkness, but what about the others?
lorenzo up left "The Abbey of Crime" mid up "THE NIGHT HENRY ALLEN DIED" bottom right "STASIS" bottom left "Veil of Darkness" and the top one right was a filler
Count me in this.
BTW, this is the first time I attempted something isometric.
So, I made something simple, yet cool--drawing inspiration from the old NES game "Solstice."
I call this "Forest Clearing Near a Fortress Wall".
I hadn't decided a time period (medieval, Renaissance, heck it could be a ruin discovered in modern or futuristic times), so this could be useful in ANY isometric adventure game.
DBoyWheeler Good one pal! For me looks like the back of a medieval castle that you should break into, maybe at night or is it a lose brick. hmm intriguing. Well Done!
Thanks. Let's see who else enters.
Nice work Dboy!
Thank you, Nixon. Again, this was the first time I did something isometric.
Nice first go Deboywheeler
Nice theme too, will be a challenge. Isometric is a bit tricky alright.
Nice theme, I haven't done isometric stuff in ages so this was a nice chance to revisit it! Here's my entry:

8-0 Wow Ubel Amazing entry, this is eye candy stuff. That are some intriguing orbes, I want to pick them up LOL. Well Done
Dang, Ubel, I think you got me beat!
Great work Ubel, straight out of the 16bit era.
Thanks guys! Hope we get some more entries!
awesome work pabs!
I decided to make one of rooms of this mags entry's isometric for this!
A very little progress:

Nice, Horusr! Even in 8-bit style (that's my guess in what it is), that's a good isometric room.
And even with what you drew, you got me beat.
Thank you! Ok, here is my entry, which is also one of rooms in MAGS August project

Amazing work and cool that its going to be on a mags too. So far so good entries
Excellent work so far guys.. This must be a real challenge. I have never tried iso-metric pixel art either, you guys have inspired me to try it out sometime.
Would love to see entries with different styles too!
Great stuff folks!
Decided I wanted to try an isometric with Blender. :-D
For some odd reason, the only thing that come to mind is: medieval castle... (roll)

nice one cassie :),, really love the mood/lighting (perhaps some more ambient light or light on the floor areas?.. just a tad though, i dunno) I am curious about the colored tiles on the floor.. is this part of some puzzle! ;) I am intrigued!
really well done!
Lovely background Cassiebsg! It has a nice RPG vibe and I can imagine some head-scratching puzzles involving that tapestry.
I love the other entries too, so many different styles!
I'm still working on my entry, hope I can finish it in time.
@cassiebsg For some weird reason, I get this vibe of catacombs from King's Quest 6. Maybe an Isometric verion of it?
Anyway, nice work.
Wooow In my head something reminded me of Diablo 1 amazing bg.
Nice one cassie. That blueish light under the crate give a real nice contrast to the grate itsel. I'd add the same light, or maybe even brighter inside the door on top of the image just to make the openeing in the wall stand out more there too. Nice work! :)
Here's my entry:
I'm not very happy with it. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to work on it, so it's a bit rough and not all that precise.
@Cassie: Wow I got an instant "Satanica"-Vibe with your entry. It was a very funny low budget diablo clone from 2001 that looked close to this because it worked with rooms and dungeons at exactly this size. Thanks for reminding me of this youthful lapse of good taste in video games :D
@Lorenzo: I love your art style and would really like to explore this market or ask for ice cream!
lorenzo why you are not happey? i think its gorgeous, your really dig it here Well Done
Rocchinator: Thank you for the kind words. :) I preferred some of the sketches that I made to the final image, the result is not what I wanted. I had some problems with the scale of objects too, I blame my inexperience with isometric drawing. It was a nice challenge, however! It's good to get out of your comfort zone.
Kumpel: Thanks! With the hot summer we're having, an ice-cream would really hit the spot ;)
its time for you to make a game lorenzo! .. your art work is too good!

I so agree! Hey, maybe he might consider taking part in an upcoming MAGS. ;)
Why lorenzo why?! Are you happy with making us, entrants, eat our nails?
You always have great work and ofc always Ã,,±nhappy with it.
I hate joining a competition when you join too :D
But this time you will have hard time, because there is ubel and cassiebsg, and all entrants have different drawing style!
lorenzo, that's a great image, and what I would hope for in an isometric background. It's easy to think tiled, as most isometric games are done with tiles, but this style is gorgeous.
Excellent work Lorenzo as always! Amazing, well done :)
Thanks a lot everybody :) I guess I need to be less insecure about my drawings, because most of the time I'm not sure if what I've drawn is any good (especially if I'm trying something different). Maybe I'm just boring, I don't know!
Tycho and
DBoyWheeler: I made a few small games in the past for friends, but nothing good enough for a bigger audience. Thing is, I'm terrible with puzzle design â€" and my programming isn't any better!

I'm sorry for being so annoying to you,
horusr! (laugh) If it's any consolation, I hate your avatar: so hypnotic... can't stop watching it... can't stop thinking about coffee... ;)
Ok, guys last day for entries if someone need a little more time let me know today!

I know what you mean. I come up with (what I believe to be) great story ideas, but my art and programming prevent me from really doing anything about them.

Hey,

Yes, the game I made were all simple and basic because I'm not good at programming, so there's a limit to what I can do. What's worse, I don't enjoy coding, so I won't probably become much better in the future.
@lorenzo You should definitely participate in MAGS. There are always people who are good at coding but can't draw, so you could team up!
OK GUYS AMAZING ENTRIES EVERYONE TIME TO VOTE!

Concept Ubel - I would love to play this game.
Playability Horusr - nice, functional area, exits are clearly signposted.
Artistic expression lorenzo - It's rare to see isometric art in a painted, non-pixel-art style. And it's just gorgeous.
I don't know.
Wait, what is problem with my entry? :o

Wait...what? - you said the deadline was the nineteenth.
Quote from: Rocchinator on Wed 02/08/2017 02:00:15Deadline: the 19th of Agust 2017
I didn't need any more time, but I wasn't on the forums yesterday, so I'm kinda - well - not happy you changed the deadline mid-contest.
Anyway, here's my entry (not even 24 hours after you said it's the last day...two days early, but still after you closed it for some reason).

(in case anyone is wondering: yes, this background is finished)
EDIT: (very) loosely inspired by the first room in Space Quest 1
EDIT2: I wasn't even online (internet in general) during the time to ask for more time (that is: ask for the time originally indicated), so there was no way to respond. But as you can read from my tone, this change in deadline really bothers me, since I spend quite some time and energy on this background.

Would love to see this style in a game. Not only is the style itself very pretty, the setting is also very cozy and ripe for some adventuring.
Concept: Ubel
Playability: lorenzo
Artistic Execution: lorenzo
Concept: Cassiebgs (seriously, it's almost like a 3d-ish version of one of the rooms in the catacombs in King's Quest VI--at least, that's the kind of vibes I get from this one)
Playability: horusr (feels like a classical game, as in from the good ol' days. And so much stuff to interact with.)
Artistic Execution: lorenzo (seriously, he should team up with someone who's good at coding for the upcoming MAGS--his artistic style and a friend's coding would make quite the entry!)
Misj' Shit Man You are Right! EVERYONE REVOTE PLZ, MY BAD!
I got confused, sorry my bad. Amazing job in that entry btw Misj'.

Ok Guys last day for voting!
Concept lorenzo - I get a nice italian town market in the morning kind of feeling. And that idea is just the most original one in this bunch
Playability lorenzo - ice cream always wins!
Artistic expression Misj - Almost flawless design with a lot of details, objects and NPCs. The shelf on the left side alone is really intriguing and makes we want to explore it.

Congratulations to all participants and especially to Ubel, Misj' and Cassiebgs: three great backgrounds with three very different styles!
I'll start the next background blitz as soon as I get a decent idea for the theme.
