Colour unconsciously sets the scene. From a mysterious swampland, to a passionate boudoir.

Your Challenge (should you choose to accept):
Create a scene with a limited colour palette (provided below).

Will you choose to set a scene of nature, mystery, jealousy, or just all out craziness?
Can’t wait to find out!
Deadline: 7 June 2021
Judging Criteria
Concept: Your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
Playability: Does it have clearly defined walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution: Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?
(shamelessly copied from Chomba, who copied from Sinitrena, who copied it from Creamy)
Great idea! And very unusual colour palette for such an idea.
I have something in mind, but as it would be a background that could not fill the whole screen, due to it not being a square, may I ask to also use black, to fill the parts of the background that are not actually used for the image? (Hope it's clear what I mean.)
This is really intresting! :-D
I think the use of black and white should be allowed, right? (not to make a black and white image... you know what I mean :P)
Yep for sure. Black, white allowed, then of course various shades of the colours provided. These just form the base for your picture.
And size is whatever you want your scene to be (square, rectangle, circular if you really want).
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Limited Colors but is what came to mine.. I enjoyed the task

Looks great, stylez75!
@Hannah_Bananna: Just noticed: This competition misses a deadline. You might want to add one.
Oops good pick up - added in the deadline 7 June.
And that looks awesome Stylez75! Very creative use of the colours, and love the inclusion of the grim reaper. First scene looks very mysterious and the second almost psychedelic with the sky 😂
Deadline approaching for 7 June. Get your backgrounds in soon!
I'm not going to be able to finish this in time, so just posting as is:

Note to self: Relearn everything you've forgotten about colour usage.
EDIT: Took some more time, added a lot of extraneous detail instead of the window and gargoyle that I should have.
I didn't had time to finish it, but here is mine:

I wanted to do something surrealist that could fit with the palette.
BTW, love your first submission, stylez75.
these look great . I loved the task at hand.. and look forward to seeing what a few more folks can do before the deadline
Thank you everyone for getting your master pieces in! Some great entries for a challenging topic.
With that, voting is now open!

Concept and artistic execution: Styles75
Playability: Babar
Nice entries everyone. The door of Potajito's lighthouse could be the same as the one in Babar's picture seen under a different angle.
Oh, I forgot about this, but you guys did a great job!
Concept: styles75 entry 1 - You can really tell a lot about this place without any further information: The mysterious figure in the boat, the almost demonic building.
Playability: Babar - A bit more of something on the field would add a lot, but I still really like it.
Artistic Execution: styles75 entry 2 - Love the rocks and the water. Not a fan of the sky, but that's personal opinion, not a critique on the technique. I'd love to go there for some exploration.
My votes are:
Concept: Stylez75
Both would be such interesting backgrounds for a game. You just wonder why the story is in both.
Playability: Potajito
Really simple, clean layout with clear walkable areas and things to interact with.
Artistic Execution: Stylez75
Love the experimentation in style for both your pics. Really different!
So in total, with 5 votes, Stylez75 is the winner for this round. Look forward to the next challenge.
8-) :-D ;)
Congrats to stylez75! I missed voting, but I suspect I'd have a hard time choosing between Stylez75's more pixelated entry and Potajito's entry. Aside from stylez75's more adventuresome entry, I think all three of our entries (and even the palette in general) contributed to an interesting oppressive/dark atmosphere BGs.
Yeah, looking forward to the next one! I like the idea that Babar's background is the close up for mine! There's already half a game there :P Also, very fun palette!
looking forward to the next one!

We all are!
(Just to make sure, you know that the winner starts the next round? - We're all waiting for you. :-*)
And congratulations, your backgrounds are really amazing!
