Since we had an interior background the last time, this time it's an exterior bg.
Subject: Your ordinary everyday enchanted forest*
Size: 320x200
Colours: 256 up to True Color ... whatever you prefer
after the last deadline had to be extended, I'll set this one to three weeks right away ...
Good luck and have funÃ, :D
* If there has already been a similar subject in the last few months, tell me and I'll change it
Okay, I have a small valley near my house (I can see it from a balcony, it's behind a bridge) and some nice forests all around, so I'll probably enter this one. ;)
I did not spend alot of time on it, but I think it turned out okay ;>

really cute, i like the gnomes ;D
Looks pretty darn good, especially if you didn't put much time in it.
Uh... I used my old pencil sketch and coloured it (53479 colours, as counted ;)) in Paint Shop Pro 7. That took me a whole day of work, but the result is pretty cool I think. Ok, but what's your opinion? Some c&c would be pleased.

Forest and plains. Just an ordinary village landscape in a day like each other. You can see some sawmill at the background, (some trees were cut down by a lumberjack, who maybe strolling somewhere not far away), a crystal clean lake, some lighthouse on the hill (there's probably a sea behind the hillocks) and two villages at the horizon. The dark clouds portending a rain, which maybe will pour today...
A smoke above the sawmill is static, but if I were making a game I would animate it. Oh, and that green hill on the left side - it's a good place for some corral (for a herd of sheep for example).
Anyway, enjoy!
Wow, Skurwy, that's fantastic. You could put it in a frame and hang in in a museum right next to the impressionistic works of van Gogh ... I'm sure no ordinary visitor would notice.
Do you have it in a higher resolution. I'd like to have it on my desktop :)
cheers
nihilyst
Thanks a lot, Nihilyst. I've striven as best I can and I'm glad you like it.
Yes, I have it in the high resolution, http://geocities.com/arcanusmysterii/ags/forestandplains_hires.jpg. It's *a bit* different version, but the difference lies in some small details only.
Greets!

Unfinished BG... :P
As I don't know if I'll have time to finish it, I'm posting it anyway.
Tests and essays to write. University is eating me alive! Eeek.
Cheers,
Stefano
Dude, you should totally finish that background! You could use it for your dwarf game!
I really like your use of texturing and the desaturated color of the grass. Not too sure about the face in the tree on the right side. The way it twists towards the viewer looks a tad awkward.
(Oh, sorry, this isn't the Critic's Lounge. :))
Here's my contribution:

Double sized, 'cos its a bit dark to see the details:

I've gone a different direction, and made an EVIL enchanted forest (mwah ha ha ha!). Shame it doesn't really reflect the amount of time I put into it...
Ah well, I'll probably be using it in a game, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.Ã, :)
No more entries? Come on, tomorrow's the deadline 8)
Hum... I really won't be able to finish my entry. :'( Crap!

Hahaha! Thanks for that! ;D
Here's my attempt:

I tried using only shades of blue, and ended up with this quirky nighttime effect.
This is my first competition entry...I think punch is in order. :)

Basically I have no problem with extending the deadline... How long do you think you'll need? Is Sunday ok or do you need a few more days?
That's a very neat looking bg Stefano, but I don't think it's a good idea to start extending the deadline in this kind of competition. After all there has been several weeks time to draw your background.
No, no! You got it wrong. I took Largo's mass murdering threat as a compliment, but I do not think I'll be able to finish in the next month.
As I said I'm dying to finish it, but I have work to do. I was just expressing my frustration (Crap again! Ah. Feels so much better.).
Well, thanks anyway. Maybe next time.
Cheers,
Stefano
Then I think it's time to vote. And my vote goes for The Ivy. Somehow I senced a Monkey Island -ish feeling in your bg (maybe because of the colors) and I liked it.
I agree with Pablo. My vote goes to The Ivy.
My vote goes to ProgZmax. His picture just looks the best if looked trough my eyes.
my vote goes to stefeno, even though unfinished ws like WOW! :o. hope it get fineshed.

Am I, as the starter of the thread, allowed to vote? If yes, my vote goes to ProgZmax as well.
Ivy, for the uniqe color choices, and for attempting to do something a little different.
I'd vote Skurwy... if his forest looked enchanted. It looks everything but - although that includes "magnificent", for sure. So I vote on Ivy. The overall result makes my eyes hurt a little bit, but there's an overall feel of enchanted, for sure. Even feels a bit like Loom.
After all I agree, my forest doesn't look too enchanted (of course If you mean magic, spells and fairies). I just must have misunderstood the rules -- my fault.
Anyway, my vote goes to Ivy -- really atmospheric and enchanted picture, it also reminds me a bit of Loom.
Def Ivy, hers reminds me of the enchanted forest with that bluish glow.
Progs is a close second though in my opin.
Ivy.
My vote goes to ProgZmax. I really like his background.
Wow, thanks for all the votes of confidence, guys! ;D Microsoft Paint has never let me down.
I've never played LOOM, but I know it's mentioned in Monkey Island (tm). One of these days I shall have to check it out.
I'm really curious: how long is the voting open on these competitions?
I know i have entered myself but can i still vote for progZmax?
Ok, voting has been on for a few days now. And the winner is ...
The Ivy
Congratulations! You have to think of a new subject and open a new thread. :)
Wow, this is exciting! :) I may just go mad with power. Incidentally, I've thought of something kind of different for the blitz...
