I really like enchanted forests and cartoony backgrounds but i prefer haunted mansions, foggy graveyards etc... so i came up with this idea:
Subject : Creepy Night
Size : 320x200
Colours : Hand drawn bg, pixel artists and photoshop-ers are welcome so no colours limit.
I hope you'll get inspired by the subject, please let me know if you'd like to change it.

This topic got me thinking, and I figured, Hey why don't I make a bg of a creepy Egyptian tomb, so I can use it in my game. Now I just need to figure out something to use it for!

Floskfinger, your background is marvelous. The blue light, the fog, the sky, the dead trees. It reminds me of The Colonel's Bequest. Spooky!

I know this isn't the critics lounge, but there is something about the mushrooms that I just don't care for. Don't get me wrong, you have yourself a spectacular image here, but maybe I just want them to be in silhouette form, or maybe rounder, but all in all, you have yourself a fantastic background and you should be proud.

Well, I'm completley pleased with them either! They'd look better if it wasn't a night picture i think. But I was to tired to make them look better!
the mist reminds me sort of the "Conquest of Longbow". Even the place...it seems fitting for where the Maid Marian would dance. AND you've got a "Conquest of Longbow" avator :P

Wow, this is a lot more entries than last time. I've gotta say, I like Neutron's the best. Especially since he touched up those torches. And that gargoyle is badass.

nihilyst, I love this picture. It looks like there's a huge cloud in the sky, like the first step of a storm.
I'm a huge fan of atmoshpere and dark lighting etc, like Jade, Neutron, and Floskfinger's pictures, but I'm an even bigger fan of unusual angles, even if they aren't exactly working backgrounds. It looks a little odd that there are black outlines on the tombstone though, it just kinda stuck out so I mentioned it. :)
Nevertheless, the others look mystical and spooky.
Thank you, Ginny. About the outlines: Well, I can't help myself, but I like it, when things are outlined. I can't do it better, maybe that's, why I like it. The image bases on a photograph I once took from a memorial stone in my hometown.
All these backgrounds are very cool, I think I'll wait for the next bg blitz and hope the competition isent so fierce. ;D

loominous: That is one excellent background. I love how everything present seems to bend towards the direction of the moon and castle. It does a perfect job of leading the eye. The wood's realism is astounding - yet, it still matches the rest of the piece. It's a great style - quirky and original. I especially love the use of shadow.

it seems that loominous has a bandwidth issue so i only saw the top couple of inches, but it looked like a pretty thoughtful composition from what i saw, and well executed, so that's who i will vote for. it would be nice if i could see the whole thing though.

Jade, Neutron, Floksfinger and loominous' are all awesome. The only problem I have is that I cant see anywhere for the character to walk, it is supposed to be a background, after all.
I would have voted for loominous, but with that fatal flaw brought in, my vote is re-directed to Neutron.
There's enough space in front of the shield... A conversation puzzle with the guard behind theshield can be made. I vote for Loomie.
