Draw any character you want, doesn't matter at all, no restrictions or anything...
But they must be wearing a hat of some sort

I was thinking about giving it a shot, but now I know, I stand no chance :)
Not sure if improving my spriting skills is necessary because Big Brother already does all the art for our games.
Here goes:

yes.. I also dont have a chance, but its all to improve skills, so I am gonna enter each week in hopes of getting better :)

thnx for compliment Largo. that manga was done from scratch (my first entirely computer done) in two hours, drawing and colouring. its not bad to enter just for fun (as i did) since choice is great - character wearing a hat :) hehe
btw blackbird keep ur letters small...
regards,
Since this is a sprite jam.. Does anyone agree that more actual Sprites should be drawn.. That anime girl is cute and good and all.. But it's not pixelated like REAL , old skool sprites... I just want to see more of THAT.. But you can still do what you want to, as long as it meets the requirements.. i didn't mean to start a debate.

agreed, I dont think vector and what not should be allowed either :/
who said that they have to be old school ???
opo said that there are no restrictions

What do you mean by vector?
woah, a sprite is a sprite, be it pixel art or high colour non pixel art.. as long as it meets any rules (like colour or size limit) then it should be treated on it's artistic quality and on it's idea, not whether you think it should be done in a different style
ths comp was , iirc, originally for pixel pushers to show their stuff, but vector has become incorperated, that is what LGM means I think, thats what I mean.
Hell, if Im wrong just say and I can go stand over there instead :)

What do you mean by vector?
Vector drawings, drawings that don't use pixels and thus can be scaled, and edited easily, as well as being much smaller. Generally used in Flash and other such programs.
Here's me giving you the finger :)

But this isn't titled "Old Skool Sprite Jam", just "Sprite Jam", and there's no restrictions in this contest about that. A sprite is a sprite. Who's to say you can't use any sprite in a game?
Maybe someone should start an old skool pixel art contest if we keep coming back to this argument.

Hey, they don't have to be sensible hats. He's a weather man, by the way. Note the microphone. I just rushed this to get some more entries shoveled in. ;D
Al's idea. A hat, wearing character.

Since you've peeped up with the story of the days of old and stuff.. I hope you're going to enter, LGM.

It's a little boy wearing a friendly mind-controlling alien from outer space with a hat.
He just got that knife out of the kitchen drawer and nobody knows what will happen next.
Btw, I like Pixel-Sprites more than Vector-Sprites, but since there are no restrictions in the rules, I think Vector-Sprites are OK for this Sprite Jam.
first thing i wanted to say is sprite is sprite, meaning u can use it in games as EGO sprite
second thing: girl was made in photoshop 4.0, drawn with lines and pencil meaning no flash and curved lines were used believe it or not. and it was made in 300X300 screen/canvas but since she didnt fit 150x150 i scaled her to 50%.
original size:
the one to fit 150X150 restriction
(http://galeb.etf.bg.ac.yu/~pdejan/hat.jpg)
Is it okay to make the sprite in Flash? ;D
I don't think it would be fair to outlaw vector-drawn sprites -
Surely I'd be allowed to enter this fella even though he was created in a 3D app:
(Except that I made it a couple of weeks ago, its too big and it's not very good)
The Saint's sprite is great, but the Sprite Jams have seen many equally good pixel-pushings. It's not as if the art is dying out on the forum, is it?
sorry..
This counts as a hat, right?Ã, ;D
Found an image on google, and traced it in paint.. took me a whole 5 minutes!
Heres my entry:

Well, here goes...

The original image was just a still, made a month or three ago. I thought I'd animate it and enter it, and get that damn walk cycle figured out and practiced. It's also pixely, for the purists out there. :P
I DEMAND MORE PIXELS!!!!!
This wasn't really made for sprite jam but it's a guy... eh, thing in a hat:

Here's my awesome entry:

Here's a closer view:

You can't get much more pixeltastic than that! I dare someone else to put more detail in a character using the same resolution. Think of the file space it'll save! No more 2GB games! We can finally go back to using floppies!
Edit: I just realized I should have made his body a bit longer than his head/hat. Oh well. I'll probably still win, because it rocks so much.
pixely enough?

and if not, then this:

Not in Sprite Jams ... the previous winner selects the one they like best.
Background Blitz is where we all vote.
Ah, awesome :D
Congrats TikiTikiMan!
