Theme: Time Warp
Set by: Babar, jfrisby, and 4KbShort
Deadline: August 31st

There were no entries for this month.

Your game should involve some sort of disruption to the regular flow of time. This could be things slowing down, speeding up, things going from one point to a different point in the past or the future, or any other warping you can think of! It can be a worldwide event or something that happens to the player only, or something the player does. Can be wormholes, black holes, people travelling too fast, time machines, reality readjusting, magic, feel free to go crazy!

What is MAGS?
Started in 2001, MAGS is a competition for amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to create a game in under a month, following the guidelines set by the previous winner. It aims to help you work to a deadline, improve your skills, and provide a kick-start into making adventure games. Regardless of skill, MAGS is for everyone. Voting is based on "favourite" games, and not the most artistic, or the best coded. If you have bad art skills, use it as a chance to do some graphic work. If you're sub-standard at coding, use it as a chance to give scripting a go. Ultimately, people will vote for the most enjoyable entry.

Rules
Entering MAGS is simple. First, conceptualize your game following the month's criteria (see above). Second, create your game fuelled only by coffee. Finally, post your game in this thread, including:

* A working download link
* The title of your game
* A suitable in-game screenshot

At the end of the month, voting will begin, usually lasting for fourteen days, and the winner chooses the next month's theme.

Remember that this is a challenge to see what you can do in a month, so any tinkering you do after that, including fixing minor glitches, is against the spirit of the competition. The exception to this is that you may go in and fix major, game-breaking bugs only during voting. We want you to have a game that voters can actually play and that runs on their machines.

So to reiterate, during the voting period fixing major, game-breaking bugs is okay, fixing minor glitches or making cosmetic changes is cheating.

Tips
Here are some ways to make sure you have a game to submit at the end of the month:
* Make a tiny game. Plan small, then cut it in half. Find shortcuts (e.g. if making walkcycles is time-consuming, make the characters static or have it in the first person).
* Plan to have your game playable and submittable with a week to spare. This way you have a week to fix bugs, add some flourishes and maybe even get someone to test it.
* Plan to submit it a day or so early. This way, if there are any technical issues with uploading, they can be sorted out in time.

It's just a jump to left--

Whoops, wrong time warp.

Anyway, best of luck for this contest.

Awesome! Count me in. I've never entered a MAGS contest before-and I've never released a complete game, for that matter-but maybe this will challenge me to get something done.  ;) I guess I'm 4 days late, better get to it. =P

Looking forward to see what you make, Perpetuall! My very first released game was also a time travelling 8 bit game that used palette cycling for the time travel animation:

And don't worry about being 4 days late, there are months where people enter in the last week  :=

An idea has been had and written down. Now to see if that converts into an actual game!
Wrongthinker and anticitizen one. Utterly untrustworthy. Pending removal to memory hole.

@Babar lol wow, what are the odds of that?
What program did you use for the color cycling art?

Babar

No special program. Possibly some ancient copy of Photoshop. The colour cycling was all done in AGS

We've been working on a game... but TIME has not been on our side this month (ha ha :D).

We've got three+ big rooms, a couple playable characters, full progression for the puzzles...  but almost no look/dialog texts in yet.. which would make it very hard to decipher the puzzles :P   We're going to take a few more days and polish it up..   :)

Hope someone else has had better luck!

Falsely

Time got away from me (🥁) too, I'm afraid! Things are mostly working, but the art is rough and the dialog is very placeholder-y.

Gonna try and finish it off over September. It may no longer be a MAGS thing by then, but the theme was too fun to pass up.

Perpetuall

Right there with you. I have been very back and forth on whether I ought to just try and throw something together real quick last minute and release it, or take my time and actually make something nice. I have done most of the coding but saved the art for last thinking I could just whip that out quickly, but that was a mistake  (laugh) I don't think I want anybody to see my game yet.

If ever there was a theme that shouted extension...

Sad to see that there were no entries this time around, but thanks to everyone who gave it a shot. I hope you get to finish them.

As we have no winner, October will be a 'Finish Your MAGS game' edition, where you can finish any unfinished MAGS project from previously rounds.

But until then, why not check out September's theme: Alien

So basically a full month extension  (laugh)
