Title: MUSIC COMPO! 27/4 - 9/5
Post by: Oz on Wed 27/04/2005 20:18:19
The year is 2056, mankind is on the brink of interstellar war. A hostile alien race is infesting our solar system, accumulating throughout the Milky Way to strike down upon our planet. The Earth forces are gearing up, ready to defend our home. For the first time ever, mankind is truly united in a struggle for survival. The sun is setting over the horizon, tens of thousands of fighter crafts are lined up on airfields across the globe, hordes of tanks roll across the land from China to Brazil and millions of infantrymen are standing by for deployment. The battle is about to begin.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to musically portray the situation. Dramatic, sad, threatening, sentimental or pompous - it's your choice! Try to capture the feeling of tension and grandeur.

Fire at will soldiers!

...joke, joke. I'm kind of working on a real entry, but I guarantee nothing.

I figure I have a pretty good chance of winning by default...

There's some incentive for you to enter:
Do you really want THIS entry to win?

Sorry, but I won't have the time (nor the skill) to participate in this contest. Maybe next time ...

Alright, we're extending this to 9/5, due to the forum down time.

Hahahaha.  Certainly an improvement over the "You're Dead!" song.

Ok, here is my attempt, "THE DANCE OF KNIVES":

http://www.geocities.com/arcanusmysterii/ags/knives_lo.mp3 (2:21)

Sorry for the poor sound quality.

Seriously I've made it just for fun, not any compo. Precisely for my random game, which story took place after a nuclear war as well, so it fits this thread pretty well.

I've played bass with heavy distortion, stereo echo & reverb effects etc., then recorded everything on VOCAL microphone (with a short sound range). That noise and sound interferences were added purposely, some of them are just random. At last, it's only one-track recording!

This is my first anti-music attempt as well ;).

Have fun!

Well, this is a futuristic song I did for Deep Freeze, and what better way to taunt the masses then to distribute the music?

Fuzzpilz,

Hilarious! Not a valid entry though. ;)

Eggie,

Also very funny in a sickening sort of way, and well... I guess that's it. Great comic relief!

Ishmael,

Good tension and pace. Greater variation would have added to this one I think, and perhaps a more careful shift in dynamics. Nevertheless a good effort and a tactile approach to the theme of the contest. Good work!

He-Man,

Ah, very Star-Warsy. :D
I like the smooth shift in dymanics. Nice arrangement too. Classic orchestral drama. Pompous to boot!

Skurwy,

I like this. Very abstract and avant-garde! Sounds like a swarm of bees (or aliens!). Quite creepy. Listening to this, I can picture the build-up of alien forces and the frenzy among the earth forces preparing for battle. Nice!

ProgZmax,

Cool trance beat! Not your typical "Armageddon" sentimentalism. Different, yet striking and dramatic. Nice build-up, but I'm sort of waiting for something more to happen. Good work though!

And... the winner is...

Skurwy! I really liked this totally different approach to the theme.

You all did very good, nice tunes everyone!
See you in the next compo. :)

Phew! :) I knew my scrapped-together-in-ten-minutes of hastness wouldn't let me down...

And congrats Skurwy! :D Do you have the next theme thought up?

Thanks a lot for choosing my piece, Oz & those who enjoyed it. I'm really, really surprised! :)

Umm... ::) nope, not yet. :D

It may take me a few days to prepare a new and an original theme. ;D

Well... see you soon!
