The last contest had no regular winner, but some people said that I should start the next one. So I hope this is okay for everyone.
This week's theme is rhythm:
Create a piece of music only using percussive sounds. This means drums, sampled noise etc. Avoid melodic instruments and don't use chords, only rhythm. But you should still try to give it a certain mood and some development, not just one loop all the time.
I hope for many entries, as the rules should also allow "non-musicians" to enter the contest this time.
I am not at all a musician, but I tried this one. It is the first time ever I tried to make music, so don't expect too much. It's just 30 seconds.

Check out the cross-rhythms and odd meters. :)

Drums Crazy (http://users.tpg.com.au/lukinso/music/Drums%20Crazy.mid)
Btw this is my first in the tune contest :D
Pretty cool contest. Always been too lazy to do some proper drum-programming, now I realized how much fun it is.
Here's mine:
Percumission - 1:30 - 1418kB
(http://www.1234go.de/percumission-hi.mp3)
I tried to encode it at a lower bitrate, but some of the drums, especially the HiHats just souned TOO crappy, so I just post the larger mp3.
Hasn't that got pitched instruments, though?
Nope. Can give you all the samples I used. There's a Reverse-Reverb and one swell, that might be illegal. But I thought that the reverse-reverb is just an effect put on percussion and the swell was build with chaotica and I woud count it as sampled noise. Anyway. I could replace it with somethig different, if I'm asked to.
Here's my Sample-Pack:

No need to replace anything, as there's no melody in your track. Sampled noise and effects are okay, as long as they are not used as melody or chords.

I stink at music. Maybe.

Let's play Name That Time Siginiture!
Um, Isn't it 6/4? Am I right?
5/4
I'd say Geoffkhan is right, it's 5/4.
By the way, I didn't expect that many entries! It will be very difficult to name a winner. Good work so far! :)

It's 5/4.
You know what's weird? Try headbanging at a 5/4 song. Heheh
Sure, just nod your head on beats 1 and the 'and' of 3. Then you can headbang at a steady pace without getting off beat. :)
EDIT: Actually if I were to headbang in 5/4 I'd nod on beats 1 and 4. Oh yeah.
Okay, today is the last day of the contest. As there might be last minute entries, I'll announce the winner tomorrow.
You can still post your new entries or improve the ones you already posted. You still have about 13 hours to do that ;-)
Okay, the contest is over and it is time to announce the winner.
But first, I'd like to comment on all the entries:
Sinitrena: If this is the first time you tried to make music, then it is really good. Yes, you could use more dynamics, it sounds a little bit static, and it is quite short. But let's forget all of this, because it's really a good first try. I was really happy to see someone enter the competition who is not a musician. Well done!
Geoffkhan: brilliant sound quality and clever time changes. I liked it very much. It could be longer with some more development, at the moment it somehow feels incomplete. But it's great anyway.
Flippy_D: Wow, that was LOUD and crazy. Good work, well built up and not too short. It's lacking a real ending, and sometimes there are probably too many sounds at once. But on the other hand, that's what makes it special.
Eigen: Good rythm and midi quality. Some more changes would have been nice, and it could have been longer, but I really liked it, as it has some groove.
auhsor: Weird, with lots of surprising moments. There is a lot of development inside the track. Well done.
Nick Dangerous: Very impressive. Good sound quality, nice effects, a slow but constant development and a real ending. It's repetitive, but doesn't get boring. Not much to criticise here.
einoo: This is what I'd call crazy ;D It was fun listening, and it is one of the longest tracks with different parts and some development, just as I wanted it.
releasethefrogs: Great. A bit repetitive, but I especially liked the way you made a 5/4 rythm that is actually very dancable. Yeah! ;)
I'd like to add that this was a very strong contest. More entries than I expected. It was difficult to name a winner.
And the winner is...
Nick Dangerous!
Congratulations! :)
