Title: Photography competition-June 13-27: Adventure game photography
Post by: Steel Drummer on Tue 13/06/2006 16:44:11
Here it is: the first ever photography competition (btw moderators, I posted in general discussion and lots of people wanted to do this)! This week's theme is:

ADVENTURE GAME PHOTOGRAPHY

Recreate anything from a commercial adventure game. This can ONLY be the recreation of an adventure game background. Originally, dressing up was allowed, but it got pretty stupid, so dressing up is from now on, NOT ALLOWED.

THE TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Digital camera photography is allowed. Photo editing is allowed. NO RIPPING THINGS OUT OF A GAME! The re-creation of backgrounds must be an actual photo. Hope you enjoy this first photo comp, and if the dealine os too short, I can extend it. The winner of this comp gets to set the rules of the next comp.

Well, the people dressing up as game characters should be in a pose that the character uses in the game.

Anyone who dresses up deserves to be ridiculed...

Why AGS games photography are not allowed? It would be really funnier to see some AGS game themed photos; the games which were made by us, the AGSers.

I'm extremely sorry for being off topic, but since I just noticed it, I am, what to say, a bit amused/confused by Pablos signature! :)

Edit: I'm even more amused now that I noticed my tremendous stupidity! :D

AGS photography could be allowed, but only if you give a reference. Haha, nice Scabb Island photo.Ã,  ;) I should change the rules to 'no dressing up'. This is going to end up as a really dumb thing. EDIT: Seeing as how Zor is the only person with a valid entry, he/she will win, unless more people enter..

You didn't even give a reference.  ::) WHat were you supposed to be from, anyways? If I knew that, I MIGHT consider letting your entry i n, but for now, nope.

But I didn't dress up. It's a bed sheet, like in the game. Unless you go out wearing bed sheets. :P

But you were trying to represent the character.   := Anyways, the mian point of this competition was to find adventure game-ish locations and photograph them. AGS games are allowed.

I don't.

I used a photo for reference when drawing the background for the game, so it's just recreating a photo of a background that was recreated from a photo.

Give it to the Scabb Island entry.

You're saying Grundislav should win before the deadline has been reached?

Aren't you supposed to give a verdict at the end??? Or are you not actually the judge? Is it voting?

Yes, the scabb lsland one should win.

A little.

Well, everything has to be tested out before it can be labeled ready for the market, right? Now we've learned that changing rules mid-competition is not good. Also we have learned that I have lost track of what this competition actually is about... :=

It's not too late to change the rules again so everyone can get disqualified... That would bring a new flavour to this cometition. One more thing - I did have a bad feeling about this as soon as it started...  ::)

When I gave my vote for the photography competition I thought it would be something along the lines of "Take a photo that would go well with a newspaper article titled "*insert title here*"" or "Theme is music, the rest is up to the photographer" or "Capture people in their everyday chores" or something like that.

This competition is just one mess. Sorry.

The comp. is one mess because its the first ever. I thought it was mainly going to be background recreation, but it turned out that it wasn't (at first). There's still one more day to get your entry in, people, and next time, we won't change the rules in between..
Title: Re: Photography competition-June 13-27: Adventure game photography

Next time you start a new competition go for something original as the first topic. AGS acutally isn't an universal answer in all cases.

Well, there probably won't be next time, judging from the current status, but we'll leave it open for another day and see if the situation is changed.

Like I told you, this activity wasn't approved by a moderator, but since it had been started already we'll let it pass. If it turns out to be disorganized or due to lack of interest or whatever reasons that prove it to be a failure this thread will be locked immediately and please don't start it over again without approval.

One problem is, we need quality not quantity, there're so many different activities here but not all of them are interesting, most of the time only a few persons participate, so we may rethink about it and we won't encourage more new competition ideas, so to sort stuff out, at least for now.

I'd volunteer to run a week-long rematch on this, just to see if the idea could actually work. But that would be after Lapaset, which means on from one and a half weeks from now. Or if it's a two week endavour, it could span onver that. But then I wouldn't be in to answer questions people might ask...
