If anyone else wants to enter and wishes that the deadline be extended. Please feel free to ask here.

Meanwhile, I ask the opinion of participants:

If in the likely case that TGames and Hedge don't change their entries to fit within the rules. Should I disqualify them or should I allow them? Your vote, your choice. Please try to respond quickly.

Time for a new Colouring Ball Competition!

Here's the shape:
(http://websolutions.freevar.com/August_and_Onward_Images/CB_Adeel.PNG)

This time, the theme is: The World As You See It.

Background Introduction:
This goes without saying that the world is as you see it and how you see it. Imagine yourself looking out of a window. What you're seeing? A Dark, Gloomy Place with no hope? Or a beautiful, cheerful place full of hope? Carefree children playing outside or the Elders waiting for the end of their life?

Instructions:
Create something which shows that you're looking out of a window. What scene you depict, is the way how you see the world!

Guide:
To make the shape more comfortable and understandable to you, here's a quick guide (zoomable image):

[imgzoom]http://websolutions.freevar.com/August_and_Onward_Images/CB_Adeel_Guide.png[/imgzoom]

Rules:

Deadline for the Submission of Entries is: October, Friday 4th, 2013, 23:59 GMT. It maybe extended if someone requests. Voting has began. Please see my latest below for details. Voting has been finished. We've got a winner, please see my latest post in this thread for more detail.

Good luck and have fun! :)

I look out my backwindow and see an old road with a guy in it and an old lantern...
I went for a low colorcount. Looks a bit boring though, I guess it's from the lack of action and not the low colorcount. So I think I'll either add more stuff or animate the windowscene.

Yay! Finally an entry and that from our very own selmiak. ;-D

Looks great, however I regret to report, but you'll have to follow two main rules (not following them will make the entry dull - as you said it yourself):

The window is lacking the frame. (Without frame it doesn't look a window at all. :()

The lower portion should be used to show either the ledge of the window or a furniture piece placed beneath the window or just plain wallpaper of the room.

Other than that, your entry is excellent. Looking at makes me think that this old, successful man is looking at his dark past. Thinking that how he started from the bottom to became successful.

[imgzoom]http://websolutions.freevar.com/August_and_Onward_Images/CB_Adeel_Guide.png[/imgzoom]

Rules:

  • You're free to depict any kind of scene but the scene should look like that it's being viewed from a window.
  • You must show the frame of the window. Whether the window is opened or closed, is entirely up to you. You'll have to draw the frame accordingly.
  • You're free to use any style for the window's frame but as mentioned before: you must show the frame of the window.
  • You must use, at all costs, the lower portion of the shape to depict either a ledge, a furniture piece (which may be placed beneath the window) or just plain room wallpaper. The choice is yours.

Come on, people. Join the fun ;-D!

okay, now I get it. The text demanding the ledge/furniture was outside, so I thought we are free to add furniture on the outside of the windowview. But I'll add it in. And just to make things clear, the frame also has to be inside the shape, not outside!?

You are free to show anything on the outside of the window view including furniture. But that's entirely up to the participant.

However, you must show furniture/ledge/wallpaper below the frame of the window (in the area which I've shown).

And yes, the frame must be inside the shape.

The frame and the furniture/ledge/wallpaper are the real challenge, in my opinion. :)

Sorry for not explaining it.

I'm glad that you're taking interest. Waiting to see your entry. :)

@TGames:
You must draw the frame (open or closed - it's your choice) to make it more like a window. The flower will be then drawn above the frame (obviously).

Here are my thoughts on your entry:
You see the world with hope. You believe in piece and nature. Calm, Peaceful and Natural Environment gives you the most pleasure! :)

EDIT:
Added two more rules to explain the theme properly.

I forgot to tell you, when I look outside my backwindow I actually see just a brickwall, so to not go crazy over this claustrophobic view I create little streetscenes with little figurines on my windowboard to make them look like they are part of the outside world. 8-)

I'll probably really animate this thing, there is something to it...

Here's my entry. Below is the small version. Well. Smaller. I kind of got carried away (and you did say we can scale it), so this is actually as small as I could make it before you lose most of the details.

It's supposed to be the world as viewed by the child inside. A far cry from the rather boring apartment building that is the actual view from my window.

(http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p762/improbableunfairlady/windowtocandyland_large_zps84831354.png)

Please let me know if size is an issue, I will try to do something to it.

PS For some reason, the smaller, embedded pic is darker than the original (the way it shows on photobucket)
PPS I also added a white border so the contour shape reads better.

Edited post.

Any sizes are allowed as long as the shape is kept intact. I've no problem with the larger version, so you can easily post it here (if you like). In fact, I'm quite glad that you used the shape in an excellent manner! ;-D

As for your entry (first I'm going to use your lines):

This entry excellently portrays the imaginative and innocence of children. That age is definitely the most golden era of everybody's whole life. Free from the worldly troubles, the children love to live in their own world.

For in their world: there's no competition, no jealousy, no enmity, no hatred for anyone. They only want sweetness, kindness, love and affection and will give the same in return. :)

Wow, that's awesome UnLady.

Here's my attempt:
(http://stupot.agser.me/misc/TicketBooth.png)

You know when you're in the train station and it's your turn at the ticket booth and then the clerk goes missing.  that's what's happened here.

I might have a go at adding some more details at some point, but I'm not sure what kind of time I'll have so assume this is the final version unless otherwise advised :D

Yay! Four new entries ;-D! Sorry, I were very busy on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and couldn't reply then.

@Stupot+:
You've earned a lot of praises from me because of your entry (nod). You've used the shape in such an excellent manner that even I couldn't have imagined about my shape being used like this. I'm left speechless. Superb work, Stu. Superb work. :)

Here are my thoughts on it:
None can define frustration more clearly than a person who waits patiently for his turn and when his turn comes, he gets to know that his patience wasn't fruitful. Yes, the fruit of patience is sweet. But there's no 100% guarantee of it being delivered. Whenever something happens like this, the frustrated person just wants to end the world.

@Tabata:
Wow, Tabby. The colours of your entry are very rich. The reverie is quite nice too. :)

Here are my thoughts on your entry:
It's said that Dreams are a vital part of life. Dreams are the objectives or missions of a person. Everyone chases them whether their dreams are small or big. Besides, no one can stop dreaming. After all, dreams are the wildest form of imagination where everything is in the favour of the dreamer. Here, I would like to say that: True Dreams aren't those which you have whilst sleepling. True Dreams are those which prevent you from sleeping!

@Khris:
Welcome to Coluring Ball. I haven't seen you in many (or is this your first time? ;)). I were surprised by your entry. I must admit, I hadn't seen that one coming. Clever use of shape :).

Anyways, here are my thoughts on your entry:
You're pissed off by the residents of the Earth. You've seen way too much of their stupidity and their ignorance. Maybe you're a pessimist? But one thing is confirmed i.e. you want to stay out of the Earth for a while and come back when a new and (more) saner generation arrives.

@jwalt:
That's quite a nice entry. Especially, the zombie skeleton rightfully enhances the effect (nod)! You've excellently predicted your (future) view.

Here are my thoughts on your entry:
Halloween is near. Beware of the kids trying to frighten you with their costumes. Make sure to keep packets of candy and/or treats ready. Otherwise, kids aren't going to forgive you. To celebrate and honour the occasion, make sure to watch your favourite horror movie or if you like interactive media more, then be sure to (re)play your favourite horror game.

Since I've expressed my thoughts on entries, time for some gossip:

Three New Entries and One Refined (Animated, to be precise) entry! That's the spirit, guys! ;-D

@Hedge:

I'm glad that you participated to relieve your stress. Welcome to the Colouring Ball. Winning or Losing doesn't matter. Having fun is important (which you apparently had) :). Following are my thoughts on your entry:

Remember the Little Red Riding Hood? Even the times have changed, ways of killing and destruction have been changed yet the story is same. The same old enmity which will never fade away. Here's the same old Little Red Riding Hood and the same old Wolf.

But be warned, for this time, The Oldschool_Wolf (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=9673) is carrying a shotgun. And what I am doing? I'm just sitting here, enjoying my coffee (or tea) while watching their wild goose chase.

@gameboy:

Welcome gameboy :). The transparency does a nice effect here (nod). Following are my thoughts on your entry:

Nothing is better than a breakfast near your apartment window. Not only you relieve your hunger but you also get to enjoy the beauty of the morning. Children going to school, adults going to their work. It gives unexplainable yet immense pleasure. And this pleasure is doubled, when you get to some beautiful/cute girls/ladies.

@Limony:

Welcome to the Colouring Ball, Limony :). I were sorry to hear that you got bored :(. You still have 4 days (if you count today too). You can still revise it if you like.

Here are my thoughts on your entry:

This one brings two interpretations to my mind:

1. You know you are doomed when you see a hot, red liquid coming out which is going to melt/destroy its way out. It eats everything on its way yet it remains awfully hungry.

2. Human has killed his own race of his personal gains. With each passing day, human blood is being shed so much that one day. It'll start raining of blood instead of water. That day isn't far where the stream of blood will be flowing (In future, there's definitely going to be a war on Water unless some way is found to produce water at much cheaper cost).

@selmiak:

I had already my say on your entry. However, I've only two lines to add:

The view was much serious when it was not animated. But now that it's animated and many men are included. It has become funnier. I perosnally love the way they smoke and shred the ash. Keep it up, selmiak! ;-D

And now, time for some gossip:

Adeel:
I participated in an early one, then hosted one. And I'm a realist, and I just would love to go to space one day. Btw, the frame is modeled after photos from the ISS.

That's good to know. Personally, I'd like to go to space too. Watching my fellow beings while enjoying the solitude - like a god boss. I'll only stay there for one month maximum, though. What about you? :)

You know selmiak, that is just an excuse to avoid the rules. Please follow the rules like everyone did otherwise I'll have to disqualify you for the sake of fair play. :(

@Hedge:
Your entry is good but it isn't within the rules. Your entry should resemble the shape. To be precise, your entry should be drawn inside the shape. There are still 4 days so I'm sure that you'll manage it :).

@TGames:
Please make sure that your entry is following the rules. You still haven't showed the frame. If you're confused about the rules, you can feel free to ask about them.

Cheers guys,
Until we meet post again! :)

Sorry to stress you guys but there's not much time left. So, please make sure that you all have revised your entries (if you want to) within the deadline.

Those who were instructed to change their entries a little (to fit the rules) and neither changed nor replied. Please do so, otherwise I'll have no option but to disqualify them (even unwillingly so, because after all, I can't do any injustice with other participants who faithfully followed the rules).

Viewing this on mobile. Aaaarrrggh! Made my head ache! So, what should I consider your final entry?

thx, how could I not post this :D

@Adeel: Well, if you accept the second image in my post above (still within the borders of the form) I submit this of course, but if this would disqualify me because there is stuff happening on the inside of the window and also all over the place then the first image is my entry...

It looks much better and enjoyable on Computer Screen. Well done selmiak! (nod)

Hedge and TGames haven't responded so far. For the very last time (and not wanting to disqualify their entries), I'm extending the deadline to October 05, 2013, 23:59 GMT. Please make sure that your entries fit according to the rules.

If anyone else wants to enter and wishes that the deadline be extended. Please feel free to ask here. :)

Meanwhile, I ask the opinion of participants:

If in the likely case that TGames and Hedge don't change their entries to fit within the rules. Should I disqualify them or should I allow them? Your vote, your choice. Please try to respond quickly.

The rules were verbose but clear. If you enter a contest but can't be bothered to read its rules, don't complain if you get disqualified. There were lots of entries that followed the rules, so it's fine to ditch them from a practical viewpoint, too.

@ Adeel
You explained the given rules more than once and you already told the consequences for entries that don't follow them.
Both participants have been online after you told them that their entries need to be changed a bit to become acceptable for this comp.

It was their decision to ignore and not react so far ~ not the gentle kind of answer, but an answer.  :sad:

Thanks for the input, Khris and Tabata :). Now I've made a clear decision (nod).

Participants, there's not much time left. So, if you were instructed to revise your entries or weren't instructed but want to revise their entries themselves. Please do it. You'll not be allowed to change your entries once the deadline is passed/expired.

Also, if I found any of the participants' entry edited after the expiration of deadline. They'll be immediately disqualified! I'm sorry for such rules but these rules made the theme more enjoyable.

I've finally drawn my trophies for the winners. I'll upload them once the voting starts.

Until then. :)

This was tough.  So many good entries.

1. Preference - Tabata
    - Absolutely beautiful work, especially with the colors coming off of the candle.  Overall, just gorgeous.
2. Message - Khris
    - The world as I'd like to see it as well.  This is a great piece on its own, but I love the message here.

I'd also like to give a personal honorable mention to Stupot+, gameboy, and selmiak.  You guys did a wonderful job, and made voting require some thought.

Having said that, I think everyone did really well.  I'm happy to see such good work here.

We have wonderful entries that are well done with individual stories that I really like to watch.
                          (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/boah.gif)

Voting is such a hard thing to do, but it has to be done, so here we go:
Most of the participants concentrated on the view and created cool scapes but didn't use the sparely individualities of the given shape. But in my opinion that's what the colourball is mainly about â€" using the given shape within the given theme.
Our friendly host who took the time to post his thoughts and some lovely comments to every entry -Thank you for that, Adeel! - also said:
Quote„The frame and the furniture/ledge/wallpaper are the real challenge, in my opinion“
Holding this in mind and looking for the entries that also implemented the particularities of the given shape there are still two left for me to decide on.
Our early bird snail with his halloween themed window view in an interesting colour scheme and
gameboy's, who did a cool view in real pixel-art technique that I am jealous about - but wait - a pink cup?! :shocked:
My blue cup vote for preference goes to jewalt.     (http://s14.directupload.net/images/user/120212/ykciyj8f.gif)

I feel a bit strange to vote for the message of an entry separatly since that was given by the theme and is „The world as you see it“ (through your window).
QuoteImagine yourself looking out of a window. What you're seeing?
So I read the stories and statements that came along with the views again and decided to look for the imaginativeness of the ideas and how well the shown view transports the described attitude.

My vote for the message goes to Stupot+ as it is an idea from 'outside the box' and his message is very well transported as I can really feel the anger and frustration when you are in need of  a ticket and find the ticket booth like abandoned.   (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/shocked.gif)

As cool as it is to see such a lot of well done entries â€" it's really hard to decide on just one. You all have done a great job and there is something in every entry that catched me. I'd like to give an honorable mention to the lovely view from UnLady and the georgious animation from selmiak.

Preference: Selmiak. I love the whimsical surrealism of your piece.

Message: Khris. I always wanted to be an astronaut, and see the world as you depicted it. Mars One, maybe... :)

This being said, I actually like all entries*, and it was a tough choice.

Cheers.

* actually except for my mine, which, though not bad in itself, stands out like a sore thumb. Alas, so much more to learn. Back to the drawing board for me, eh?

Tabata gets both votes from me: Preference and Message. I'd also give UnLady an honorable mention, as it was a tough choice between the two.

Well done, everyone, including the ones that were disqualified. Where were you all last month; certainly not looking through keyholes.  (laugh)

Some wicked entries here, well done all.
My preference has to go to Tabata.  Just such a beautiful and warm piece.
For message/theme, I will vote for UnLady.  I would love to look out of my window and see that view.
Also, kudos to Adeel for this interesting spin on the Colouring Ball format and his charming little interpretations of everyone's entries.  Very nice touch. Thanks.

Sorry for being late, guys. I were busy but lets forget about it for now and concentrate on what you we've now!

Sorry for being late, guys. I were busy but now that I've found some time, lets get on it! I've counted the votes (feel free to correct me - I don't suck at Maths but I'm sleep deprived so there's a possibility I may have done wrong calculations). Surprisingly, the voter turnout was quite less than the entries participated (are we having real elections people? 8-0). Anyways, here are the results:

Aaaaaaannnnnddd, the WINNER / 1st Position Holder of Colouring Ball: The World As You See It, is:

Stupot+ and Khris both received a total of 2 Votes.

Congratulations to both of you. Bronze for the win! :)

Also, I would like to mention about jwalt (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=14137) and selmiak (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=9350) here. They both received a total of 1 Vote.

Thank you, everyone (including those who were disqualified) for taking the interest and participating. Whenever one of you all submitted his/her entry. You can't imagine the pleasure I felt. Thanks once again, for making this competition successful. (nod)

It was fun hosting this competition. Oh, I loved so much being in power but each throne falls some day. So, I pass the Honourable Charge of CB Hosting to Tabata. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in her competition due to my engagements but I'll watch the thread (and hopefully vote, if I can find time).

You all can congratulate each other while the thread is still open! ;)

Have a good day (or night in the timezones closer to Pakistan's)! :)

Oooops  ~  I didn't see that coming! (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/shocked.gif)
Thanks a lot to you all! (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/flirty.gif)

It has been such a fun and entertaining to watch all the different views and to show you how Tabby is dreaming while staring at the cheesy moon. (laugh)
Also reading Adeels thoughts about the entries was really interesting and gave this colorball a nice individual touch. (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/clap.gif)

… and now you want a new shape to fill, right? (laugh)
Sadly I cannot use what I started preparing last year to maybe become a comp (there already has been a similar one not that long ago).
So that's why I need to think about a new theme and shape first and then about how I migt be able to catch you for participating.  :wink:
I have some vague ideas, but since I am a bit caught off guard it might take a bit until it is done.

... on my way now ...

And thanks again, Adeel, for the intriguing and inspiring shapeheme. Also sharing your thoughts with us was awesome, I think you have the soul of a poet.
