Hey hey! I won the sprite jam for my birthday! What a present!
So, I always have trouble thinking up topics for sprite jams, but I think I have a fun one for you all to do. It's something I enjoy spriting, so hopefully you guys will enjoy it too!
Rules:
Dinosaurs!
I prefer useable sprites, but if you feel like doing something elaborate, go for it!
Restrictions:
Max Size:200x200
Max Colors: 256
So have at 'er! YEEHAW.
its.... a dinosaur, who practises business.

My first entry in this category, I liked this Dyno so I use this in my next game.
Size: 150 x 175
Colors: 128
Edit: Modified Version in Fireworks MX
:D

This is for threatening to pull a lawsuit on me Barney, you sack of crap.

Colors: 15, I would say. I probably broke a rule anyway.
A quick one:

I beileve Pesty ment 256 actual unique colors on your sprites.
Arangel, you use 294 colors, and HilBilly 584. If you save it as a .gif it will automatically be reduced to 256. Just don't use mspaint for that. :)
Although it seems to you guys that you used a small amount, your programs automatially anti-aliased it creating much more than 15 or 8 colors.
Yeah, well, it's the thought that counts. Hi-res graphics are way too ugly in 256, so you can just withdraw my submission.
not to contradict you, but this version fo your sprite only has 256 colours. I see little difference.

Damien,
How you calculated 294 colors.

and before i forget the actual sprite:
188x142, 15 colours
Wow, very nice!
Here is a big one.
He actually is SO big, that he exceeds the dimension restrictions. ;) Well, since I don't have the time to make him look better, he wouldn't have won, anyway. Not that I ever would win the Sprite Jam ... Guess, I'm dreaming again.
Mordalles, I really like your try-serra-tops. The first time I saw him I thought it was a photograph ... I then realized, that there are no photos of prehistoric beings. ;D
cheers
nihilyst

There. 200x200, although he doesn't fill all the boundaries of that size (he's prolly like, 180x165 or somethin'), with only 6 colors...
EDIT: I hate myself... I saved it as a jpg, and now it sucks... I'm so ashamed :(
Here. I don't know if we're allowed multiple entries, but in case we are or in case the jpg doesn't count for some reason, here's another. Let's see if someone can come up with what I used as a reference pic :P

awsome indeed!! :D
I'm a bit new to this, but anyway...

Yeah, it's not really a dinosaur but it's sorta a mix of various dinosaurs.
I'm also very bad at legs/feet as you can tell.
QuoteDamien,

Well, your first version was in .png format. I saved it to disk and opened with IrfanView and clicked on image information or something simmilar. Then a window poped up showing the number of unique colors.
A .gif file is restricted to 256 colors (correct me if I'm wrong) so if you use a program that can convert to gif without distorting the image (photoshop, gimp, graphics gale,...) it automatically converts it to 256 colors or less.
I hope this answers your question. :)
Yes Damien,
I rework the image with Fireworks MX 2004 and export to .gif with option of 128 color only ( I have the option to work with 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256 colors or custom color palette. I chose 128 fit good for me.
Thx for your observation.

Get that freak of nature out of my face.
Edited by mod: don't quote images!

wow nice what you can do with (and now i guess) 8 colors :D :)
that's 5 colours to you ;DÃ, ;)
wait ... did you talk to me or did i embarress myself?
Its one of the dinosaurs that evolved and now inhabit small part of South America. I think its a shaman or something.

Originally planned to animate it, but I'm too busy, maybe later, after teh activity...
And it's fun he blends so well with the post's background colour!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v738/BOYD1981/dythsaurus.gif
it's a doyouthinkhesaurus... yes.
Look! Cthulsaurus! Look! Pathetic dithering!
That's disturbing...
I was wandering the interweb of pixel art last night ... and came across this FANTASTIC site.
I stumbled onto this image: http://www.slateman.net/images/gaming/nxc/nxc-dinosaur2.jpg
So I decided to mimick it and here was the result:
It's rather similar, but is all my work.
- redrew the over-all shape
- all new color scheme/shading
- made the head smaller
- changed the shape of the arms (and shortened them a bit)
- altered the features of the face
- altered the legs slightly
- moved the tail into a new position
Anyhoo ... just thought I'd toss my hat into the ring for this.
How do I submit a sprite for the competition?
Well... you... uh... draw it... and put it here...

Do I detect a some sarcasm here?
The sprite is all done but I do not have a website where I can post it and was just trying to find out if there are any alternatives.
Thanks anyway
Edit
My contribution for the comp.
Allosaurus from the Jurassic era

JESUS!! 50 spam/crap messages get deleted and here comes the rain again!!!!
Maverick ... search the forums (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=search). There are 20 threads (some sticky) about how to post images. Have you even tried the Help Link (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=help) (next to search up top)?

Thanks for the advise.
Venus helped me with a site.
My entry is Allosaurus just above the two very helpful comments that precede your post.
Many awesome entries! You jerks, you've made it hard on me!
Oh man, they're all so dinosaur-y, but I think the one that I enjoy the most is Mordalles' triceratops.
But man, you all rock. And just because you didn't win the jam, doesn't mean I don't like your sprites. They are all awesome!
So go start a new one, Mordalles! I am finished!
congratulations mordy!
Congrats, Mordalles!
gratz, mordy. Pick something fun!
Yeah for Mordalles!
Congrats! Awesome!
