Newton, The Geomancer

Newton is a simple guy with a simple life. As far as anyone remembers he lives in an old windmill with his pet cat. And no one bothers Newton. No one, exept the local farmers having a little bit of trouble with moles or bad soil from time to time.
But, in a few minutes something amazing is about to happen, and the greatest adventure in Newton's life will begin...

P.S.: That's a wand.  :P

Qualen maintains that his devotion to pyromancy is purely an expression of his rapt appreciation for the sinewy grace and poetic chaos of fire. That it's been years since anyone had the nerve to make fun of his plum cape and high heeled boots is, of course, merely incidental.

Qualen's other love is the theater, although his pursuit of an acting career has not proved as successful as his pursuit of greater understanding of the mystical arts. Most recently he went out for the title role in his local community playhouse's production of Dark Queen of Krynn. His audition was graceful, stylish, and positively consumed with the "it" factor. Inexplicably, though, the part went to an obtuse, well-endowed nymph from around the bend. When asked what reasoning could possible lie behind this obviously misguided decision, the director merely looked pale, glanced at Qualen's wand, and repeated with dubious intonation that the wizard was, "too tall."

Hi there,

original size: (http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/884/hagatha1cn.gif) double size: (http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/3319/hagathax26vi.gif)

This is Hagatha Christie. She first got interested in the dark magic when she was 9, through a traumatic encounter with a big frog of 8 pounds weight that happened to mistake her for a exceptional lovely fellow. In the following years, she developed an encreasing habbit to turn all kind of amphibians and unwilling men into pink purses.

This is my first compo at all, so thanks for watching and reading ;)

[Edit: 13 May 2006, 02:15]

I had fun, so I just added another entry. I think this will be the one to be judged... assuming that I won't do another one, that is :) Well, here it is: the purple gnome wizard, just about to summon some blue fireball

here is my quick entry. Martha the witch:

She has her very own "witch call service"

(http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/768/witch014tm.gif) (http://imageshack.us) since she can fly (http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/4139/witch026qy.gif) (http://imageshack.us) sorry, her broom is more than 50px long.

She usually flyes nacked, but only in the night time. She is ready to show how she make that to jury, if the jury promise her that she'll get the job...Ã, Ã,  ;)

My witch is not human, but there is less known about these creatures, neither where they come from, nor where they live...(I'm sorry, but I'm very uncreative this morning).
But they are really, really evil....

krysis: First off I liked the unconventional wizard (geomancer) and enjoyed the idea. It could make for a very interesting game. Still awaiting the day you release a Krysis-style game.

Vict0r: The simplistic nature is really well done for me. You definitely made an original character even though the reference. Nice and simplistic!

Privateer: I'll say it's quite good! I particulary liked the glow. Mysterious character :)

gameboy: Ah, classic wizard fighting for the good side :). The belt and shoe buckles are a nice touch. A worthy entry.

pslim: Great colouring and great body position (stance). A very interesting character indeed.

saberteeth: He looks confused, in other words, perfect apprentice :). I dig your colour choice and sparing use of. I also thought his outfit was a great touch, kinda like the wizard hat, except this time the wizard robe. You ain't gettin' a robe until ye graduate, sonny.

clip: She does look powerful, hmmm, no she's innocent, no wait powerful, don't fall under her spell, aaahhhhh. :)

KidCrazy: Very interesting :). The hair looks alive! I especially like the fireball.

yarooze: The jury requests a meeting with her afterwards :)

TheAmazingLardo: Evil indeed. Unique style, I do like it, yes.

Mad: She sounds like a female younger version of Rincewind :) Your style is really cool, and wouldn't mind playing a game with her as the main character. Haha, the oversized clothes is funny and 'all the cussing and stuff'. :)

MashPotato: Wizards I tell you, always getting turned into stuff. Loved your idea and style.

Rap4Life42o: That could make for an interesting game with that style. Very RPG like :) Great sprite. A very interesting style (oldskool like you say). Is he perhaps for a game you are making?

Yodaman11111: You are constantly improving. Hope to see you join more sprite jams.

Drawken: I mainly liked the drawing itself and the consistent colouring.

royals10: That is a cool wizard indeed! Great entry.

Petteri: Must say, I enjoyed your entry a lot! What were those wizards up to again :) turning themselves into bowling balls (or some kind of ball). 'Ung whippersnappers 'll never learn, hmf.

Klaus: The style! The style! Bravo.

jasonjkay: Lovely sprite. Unfortunately I couldn't judge it because it isn't an original character as in stated in the rules. :(

lo_res_man: Ah, loved the idea. He looks devilishly evil, must be his shiny new red suit :).

I hate you all for entering! Why do you have to make it so difficult! I hate you, I hate you haha :) Just kidding. This has been a fun challenge to host with all these great entries. Though it has not been fun deciding a winner, since there are so many potential winners. Grrr. Well in the end I had to make a decision. I narrowed the field down to about seven names (taking nothing away from the other entries that could just have well have made it, it was such a close competition for me). They were Krysis, MashPotato, Mad, pslim, Drawken, Petteri and Klaus.

After some more thought and names circulating in and out of first position I came up with two final names. Drawken and Klaus. In the end I had to make a decision :) ...

(http://img484.imageshack.us/img484/7850/bronzewizard7es.gif)3rd: Petteri and Mad (http://img336.imageshack.us/img336/1944/petteriwizard7nr.gif)(http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4711/madwitchy1qz.png)

(http://img304.imageshack.us/img304/8329/silverwitch5zg.gif)2nd: Drawken (http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6923/drawkenwitch5es.gif)

(http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2042/goldwizard2sm.gif)1st: Klaus (http://img326.imageshack.us/img326/1291/klausitcandomagic8sl.gif)

Congratulations Klaus! Thanks for all the entries! I hope nobody is too disappointed, I wish I had help deciding the winner this time round.
