Title: Sprite Jam: Ends March 15th - Ended
Post by: Khris on Tue 08/03/2005 02:46:07
Ok, this week's rules are:

well-known person in Gameboy style

Pick a celebrity (can be a fictious one, like Ronald McDonald) and draw it using only 4 shades of either grey or green.
Caricatures are fine.

I'm not sure about the size of the GB's display, I think it was 128x128. So that's the size limit.

Nice rules, but I want to ask:
Does a well-known adventure game character coutn?

Yes, although converting MI1's Guybrush to 4 colors isn't that hard.

You can use any char you want, but if the original version features a LOT of colors, you're more likely to win.

Well, I cheated a bit and used a photo of one of my toys to do this. If that's not allowed (and I suspect it's not), then this is not an entry (but it was still fun!):

(and a second version, to... um... highlight the highlights and the form better.... I personally prefer the first one, even though it's a bit ambiguous)

Two celebrities for the price of one! Frankenstein, King of the Moon, and his queen, Jennifer Lopez!

Continuing Pesty's exposé on the classic Gameboy/AGS crossovers, here's an in-game screenshot from "Ben Jordan: Moon Mayhem" in which he battles Frankenstein, King of the Moon.

This doesn't count I suppose because the res is actual gameboy res and not the one designated by the topic, but either way, it's the main character from Time Out [my game] fighting the floating Frankenstein Head with Diminutive Body in a grave yard... Game...

in 1998, a game was quietly released to the gameboy market, but somehow it just didn't catch on.  Now, SPAM-Co games is proud to present to you...

Yes, do fierce battle with all the movie icons of yesteryear, including (but not limited to):

David Hasselhoff!
Mr. T!
Mark Hamill!
Sylvester Stallone (as Rambo)
Linnea Quigley (as Trash)
Judd Nelson

And many, many more!

Perform fierce combos, like Hasselhoff's Kit Double Trouble move!  Or, store up energy for a fearsome one-hit finishing move, like Mark Hamill's Saber Penetrator!

Featured on the gameboy's native 160x144 pixel screen and in brilliant 4 color vomit-yellow hues!

Get it today!  (please?)

I went with mickey mouse 'cause he's easy to draw, and everybody loves mickey.

EDIT: It was brought to my attention that I used double the res, because I am stupid. I have thusly, properly amended the situation.

Here is my entry for this contest.

The 8th dwarf, the beloved italian president Silvio Berlusconi!

It also features Uncle Scrooge's hat, very well deserved, in my opinion!
(this is my first attempt in an AGS competition, and I know it sucks, but, hey...actually Berlusconi SUCKS!)

I don't stand a single chance to win, but anyway, if only one image is valid, I choose the 2nd one.

Hope they're somewhat recognizable. A sort of blend between the char's development over the games.

Coolness, that'd be so sweet if there really were 'point & click' adventure games on the Gameboy.

EDIT: Or are there?

The "Deja-Vu" games are also available on the Gamboy Colour, if I am not mistaken.

Edit: Awesome, I'm not mistaken.

Must. sleep. now.

Winner. to be. announced. soon.
Title: Re: Sprite Jam: Ends March 15th
Post by: Khris on Wed 16/03/2005 15:34:16
It's quite hard for me to choose a winner, every single one is great. Even after rating them by recognizableness(sp?), sticking to the rules and overall drawing performance, I still ended up with 6 top candidates that scored equally.
I have no choice but to be nit-picky about the rules then.

So: Ozwalled is the WINNER!

What? You DID see some of those other entries right? Right?!  :P

Anyway, thanks for the nod, khrismuc. I don't envy your position in having judged this Jam at all: I fear my head would have exploded if I'd had that reponsibility.

I'dd also like to know what the deal-e is with "Frankenstein: King of the Moon".

I'll see what I can do for a next Jam.
