The Team So Far...
SSH - Project Leader

The Basic Storyline

Deep in the highlands of Scotland a young girl, Aille, lives in a castle with her parents. Her father is the ruler of the area. Aille loves horses and loves to go for long walks. One day she finds some wild horses while walking by the loch. She finds them friendly and gets up on one to ride. As it gallops along, she feels like she is flying. Then she realises, she is flying. The horse has wings and is flying through the sky. Frightened, she screams, but the horse talks to her as a voice in her head, reassuring her that he will not let her fall. He is the Air Elemental, lord of the skies.

He has made contact with her because she has been seen to be a good person (TM). He tells her of awful events unfolding: fires set and people destroying the natural balance of the elements. He takes her to meet the Earth elemental: the unicorn. He tells that he has not been able to find the Fire and Water elementals for a council and suspects that the fires being set are the work of the Fire elemental who may have captive the Water elemental, who is the one who can stop the fires most easily. Aille asks why she is chosen. The elementals tell her that not all can see them: only thos eehwo truly believe in magical things. Aille has wnated all her life to see unicorns and dragons and is glad to help.

She returns to her father's castle, her mind whirling, and thinking about what has happened. But no sooner has she stepped outside agian than some evil witches, working for the bad Elemental, kidnap her and take her off to a foul-smelling pool high in the mountains, ready to sacrifice her to....

So, Aille discovers what is going on and saves the area from the evil. Sea monsters, dragons, magic and conspiracy. Aille not just saves her village, but the whole world ecosystem... woot!!!!


The Next Competition  
The next competition is for Artists and Musicians. Ordinarily I'd ask SSH to set the competition but I remember that he doesn't really come here over the weekends and it can't be delayed... so....

3 Artists and 1 Lead Artist will be chosen from this competition, as well as 2 musicians.

THOSE APPLYING FOR POSITIONS AS ARTISTS:
Post your image(s) on the forum. Remember, the artists design background art and not characters. The Animators fall to the job of Character Design. Hang on, that sentence was backwards. Anyway, my point is this; use your imagination to develop a scene from this game. Submit backgrounds or storyboards or designs (for backgrounds). You can submit as many as you want, depicting areas of a fantasy land. They may be in any medium whether natural or computer generated.

THOSE APPLYING FOR POSITIONS AS MUSICIANS:
Read that sentence out loud! It Rhymes! How neat is that!?
Anyway, submit midis that you think suit the theme of this game. It can be any sort of midi whatsoever, even if it won't be used in the final game. So long as it shows you have captured a style or even that you are just a really goddamn awesome midi composer. Post a link to your midi(s) on this board.



And totally remember: Now that other people who want to apply for Animating/Dialogue know what the theme is, they can get a head start. Go! GO!

Well.. what about sizes? Or color depth?

Shouldn't SSH give out a general idea of how he would like this to be made?

I am not an artist or an illustrator, but I am guessing that everyone willing to participate should be given a general layout of the requirements.

Also what about making this the first 32bit game?

There will be 32 bit MAGS games out before this, like mine hopefully.

I think low res, high colour would be the best res to choose, because it's the one most people can make graphics in, and is faster to draw for.  I'd prefer high res personally, but there aren't as many high res artists around and there's a fairly tight time limit.

Well, lets say 16bit 320x200 and we're going to use a Lucasarts GUI, because the templates are great and I think that GUI's pretty popular.

I'll have to go and hunt out the Novella-so-far so people can get some background, but the plot can be adapted to fit a game better, obviously.

I was impressed by the other ideas that people had, and also by those who enetered the OQ on plots. So, if anyone wants to volunteer for plot/puzzle development assistant, I'd be very happy for help. Dragonrose, or one of the l0sers  

So artists: remember that teh charcters will be Aille (teenage hero girl), some witches, a Scottish lord (Aille's father), A dragon, unicorn, pegasus and sea monster.

but the background will be thigns like: Scottish scenerey backgrounds: a loch, a castle or fort, medieval village

Musicians: Scottishy, swords-and-magic type music: some light, some dark in tone.

oh, and do I or Yufster or both choose the winners?

Eh darn ... I really wanted to do this ... and december MAGS as well ... and ... and ... but it's just too much, and time is just too short.

Given that my plot is so compelling that one person has submitted any kind of entry, I hereby resign as project manager in a huff. Maybe someone else can come up with something more inspiring! Or maybe Yufster wants to select one of  the other plot entrants or maybe she wants to go into hiding to avoid the derision and hate that comes with this kind of failure.

No SSH don't quit, I think your idea is really good. I thinkiIt's just a very busy time of the year to start this - I was waiting to do the charachter anims but I'll submit for this too!

Okay - hi guys. This is my very first post here, and it probably won't even be read because it looks like this thread has kind of died on everyone, but I saw the word 'musician' and just HAD to read.

I'm 17, and without meaning to boast, I do fancy myself as a bit of a cool midi composer. Only problem is I dunno how to host my midis. If I could email them to someone who could post them up for me, than that would be cool.

Anyway, I'll submit my 'application', even if this thing has already died before it's taken off.... hope my post isn't complete useless :

Lo Peter: Firstly, welcome! Now, if your midis aren'tover a mega byte large (I think that's the limit, though it might be 5megs) then you can upload them to Neole's free temporary upload space: http://www.2dadventures.com/ags/upload/upload.html
This would be a quick solution. I also reccomend you upload your midis somewhere else, but I umfortunately can't give advice where cause I'm indesicive about where to upload my own stuff heh.. anyway upload it on a free hosting service like freeservers or tripod/lycos.. Just not geocities!

Mr_Frisby: Very nice style! I love the pond with flowers on it! And yeah SSH, don't quit, this is indeed a very busy time.. I would love to enter this IF I had any sort of artistic or musical skill or talent... But I can barely use a midi program and I would never manage to do any artwork worty of the idea (And btw, I love fantasy ideas). So just give it time,this might have a slow kickoff, but it will eventually start moving I would gladly enter the dialogs department competiton, or any sort of design. Also, i don't recall if you're the programmer or not, but even though I'm hardly experinced at programming, I find it oddly enjoyable So just don't give up, and good luck

Yufster and co. I still think that this comp was a good idea and had some good potential. It started at a busy time of year - I have san idea on how it could work a bit better.

Idea . . .

- Before you choose a team leader you could just start a thread getting people who are interested to sign there names up for each category.
Then when you find out how many people you have you can figure out how many teams you could set up - This could mean that you could have more than one game being done at once and no one has to miss out.

You then get the game ideas and see who wants to work with whom - no actual competition involved.

When the game is ready to start - Just IM the people who wanted to be involved.

* In the end people will get to learn how to make games in  teams reguardless of there abilities (more people will be involved).

There is no actual competition - so we could make this an Activity instead- at the end of it we'll have some AGS comunity games created - and we can see what we've learnt.

I for one would like to see what we can do as a community- I think it could be cool.

It's a little rough around the edges but I think it could work.
