Title: Sprite Jam: Hybrids (Trophy-Time!!!)
Post by: Mad on Fri 20/08/2010 19:32:13
Hybrids

You surely remember this guy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099487/mediaindex), or even this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120800/mediaindex) terrible attempt at a so-called animated classic!

Although very different in viewing pleasure, both films feature some kind of hybrid between living being and tool/appliance.

I want you to go to your lab and/or magical cave and construct such a hybrid:
It can be any living being, animal or human, crossed with any tool or kitchen appliance.

There are no restrictions size, colour, or resulotion wise... go wild!

I've made a little inspirational piece:

Anyone for freshly ground Kopi Luwak?!

Edit: By the by, a really cute entry there, Sughly !

Mad, that's epic!
Anyone here particularly good at bionics?

Bump ;D

So, only three more days to go!

I guess Sughly would appreciate some well earned competition...

I'm working on something.  Been busy lately, but I'll get it done by the deadline.  (Though I probably won't have time to animate it like I'd hoped... oh well.)

Ok, I'm going to close this in about 12 hours from now!

@Alun: If you still want to enter, but need a little more time, just say the word.

Definitely still planning on entering... hopefully I'll be able to have my entry in within the next 12 hours.  Sorry for the lateness; it's been an unexpectedly busy week.

And here we go.  I'd hoped to have time to animate my entry, but, well, it's been a busy week.  Still, at least I got it done before the deadline (barely).

It is, of course, a refrigegator.

Alrighty, this jam is officially over!

And I think I can decide this one by myself ;D:

Sughly, your sprite is really excellent! It is well executed and has a lot of character, but unfortunately the light bulb is barely recognisable as something artificial. It could be any ole glow-dragon  ;).
Alun, your mobile fridge is a great idea, although I'd be not too keen on getting the beers out of there myself. This is a good example of what I had in mind, when I thought of the topic!

So both of you grab yourselves a well deserved trophy: The Edward Waffle-Iron-Hands!!!

The silver one goes to Sughly:

And the golden one to Alun:

Thanks to both of you for participating!

Well I guess we know what got the dinosaurs - it wasn't a meteor or the Ice age, it's just that they didn't defrost themselves regulary.  ;D

Never got around to finishing it, but here it is.

That's supposed to be smoke coming out of his ears.

Whoa, my first contest win here!  I like the trophy, too.  (I ought to get around to editing my signature to show off my trophies now... ;) )

So... I guess I start a thread for the next Sprite Jam now?  Do I do that right away, or am I supposed to wait until a specific day?  (Sorry for the stupid questions; like I said, it's the first time I've won one of these...)

I wasn't really expecting to get the gold... your entry was very well done.  But hey, I'll take it. ;)

Pity, that's as always a lovely sprite. Hey, now we'd just need a bionic dishwasher and we'll have ourselves a nice portable kitchen!

If you care at all, also take an Edward Waffle-Iron-Hands in bronze:

Like I said, it is a great piece of art, I for example wouldn't be able to produce. Maybe I am being a bit nit-picky, but someone has to win, as sad an affair that is.

I guess you can start whenever you're ready. Just be there when it ends in two weeks time.

OK, I went ahead and started the next jam, then.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this theme, and Sughly's and loominous's entries were definitely great quality work (even if the latter was a little late).  And I do like the trophy.  Great job, everyone!
