I went into a auto shop the other day.Ã, And the guy behind the counter (who turned out to be a hell of a nice guy) at first glance reminded my of the typical 'boogie man' in your closet when you were a kid.
With that in mind, this weeks competition is:
The monster in my closet!!!
Make a sprite of that evil monster that always lived in your closet when darkness covered the land!!
NOTE: Monsters which lived under your bed are also acceptable.NOTE: Monsters which were scary, but not evil, also acceptable.Width: no greater than 65
Height: no greater than 125
Colors : unlimited
Restrictions : none
Have at it fellow spriters!!
when I saw this I just couldn't resist
this is my boogy man!!!

*sob*
This thing used to scare the hell out of me when I was younger. I don't fully remember what it stemmed from, but it's a pretty accurate depiction. Now that I look at it again, it's vaguely equine...

/mentally scarred.
does that thing have a penis for a nose?
flippy's entry i mean, not michael jackson...
Just what is it with you and penises, boyd? ;)
I've still got a monster in my closet. Fortunatly for me its C. Leks and he's got more important people to kill.

Heh. My monster lived in the toilet :P. It was the captain from Tintin, the current avatar of DG. I was afraid he was going to stab me in the arse (Nothing sexual).

This is probably some kind of a zombie. A fat zombie. It doesn't have to be I guess. It can be whatever you'd like. I was more than likely haunted by this at some point in my early childhood. Maybe all artistic expression is subconsciously inspired by early childhood fantasies/nightmares. Also kinky sex toy designs. And where do early childhood fantasies/nightmares come from? That's right, subliminal messages in billboard ads. We've got to bring down the corporations, people. No more will the children of this hellish nation be disturbed by intense visions of fat armless legless zombies! We've got to blow up a factory. I'll meet you there.

Hmmm... This is suspicious.. A monster with a penis-nose. Flippy, did you by any chance get... molested when you were very young?
ITS THE ATTACK OF THE KILLER PROTIST!!!!111!1!!!1!

That's not a penis... it's more of a... I dunno, trunk of sorts. Hell, this was years ago.
Siderant: T'ain't fair, RTF is usin' photoshop and we simple folk can only use paint. Oo-arr.
This is my attempt... scary! :-\

*Points at Strazer*
Okay, you should cut us some slack...
I mean, it seems rather unfair that the same people keep winning it. There's no way an unbiased judge could say Strazer's wasn't the best here, but he just hosted one.
Maybe there should be some sort of rule: If you've hosted one recently you can't enter? By enter I mean... hmm. You could still draw a sprite for the competition, but you wouldn't be 'entering' the competition. See?
It's rather discouraging for the less skilled artists here.
this is why i don't like making sprite jam a contest... and this is why when i enter i say that i don't want to win...
I would just pick someone at random or someone who showed improvement or someone who's nice anyways
Maybe it would be better simply to pick people based on ideas they have for a sprite jam? We could have a thread where anyone can post potential sprite jam rules, and they get chosen simply by what ideas get the best response.. Or we could just have one host for the sprite jams, sort of like DG used to to with Photoshop Phridays.. Then it would just be about sharing art and learning new stuff, not about who's better..
or maybe you should just let darth pick the winner, if strazer wins then it's no big deal, he only gets to host the next compo, and besides, darth might go for the one he likes best and not the one that looks the best, you never know, he might like penis nosed creatures...
Flippy, I'm sorry...I think?
The subject fired my imagination, I just had to draw something.
I too don't like the competitive nature of Sprite Jams. If there were one person willing to regularly host SJs, I would be all for it. It should be about having fun.
I had a hard time deciding last week's winner.
I thought about picking someone else for a change (I'm sure he won his share of SJs), but DM's clearly was technically the best AND closest to the rules. It would have felt contrived not to pick him.
So you're right. I should have said "No entry".
I don't want to win. Coming up with a subject is damn hard! :)
This is Mummy in My Closet. He lives in my closet. That's all he does. He's not really scary, but he is a monster and he lives in my closet.
I've been hoster of this contests and IMO not just the quality of the sprite is judged, but also improvement or merit (It's not the same merit for a pro to paint an average sprite than for a newbie in pixelart...)
On the other hand, Strazer's entry is very nice, but I think there are possibilities of a fair competition with the other sprites.
Yeah, when I got to judge this once I picked up the entry which made me laugh out loud the most. It was still good technically, but I'd pick it even if it were ugly.

Nah, don't apologise. I was just... pondering.

I don't quite know what it was. But it was freaking HUGE!
(and I actually had a little pink dress that looked like that. It was cute)
you know, i saw those curved bits above the, what i am guessing are toenails and thought you were doing the opposite of flippy...
look closely and you'll see what i mean...
:D Hahaha!
What is it with you people? ;)
you can talk with that signature! :P
And the sprite jam ends today. Who will win?
lol
I decided that I was going to pick the winner of this competition by choosing the one that most closely represented what the monster in my closet looked like ...
So, the winner is Ms. Dragonrose.
She captured my child-hood fear of the monster in the closet perfectly.Ã, (I always envisioned thick saliva dripping down from some unseen mouth full of razor-sharp teeth way above in the darkness too ... 'cause as we all know, once you close the closet door it's interior space increases 10 fold!)
Congrats Dragonrose!
Honorable Mentions
Pesty, Strazer, Warg
Good entries to everybody else!Ã, Especially our LostTraveler as he obviously spent the most time on his ;)
Hey, C. lives in my freaking closet. Dont think I cant talk him in to some "jobs". :P
You have seen the protist...
...it bites you... ;D
Strazer would be perfect for a game
