Title: Sprite Jam "Pink"
Post by: Jim Reed on Thu 01/09/2022 21:41:11
Welcome to the Sprite Jam!

This time you should draw a character for a game that is based around the color pink! Pink is an awesome color! All shades of pink and magenta are welcome! Does you character have a pink outfit? Pink shadow? Pink fingernails? Pink eyes? Pink forcefield? Maybe it has a pink pet? Possibilities are endless and as long as there is some pink in the sprite it's perfect!

The sprite jam will last until the 1st October, followed by a week of voting.

There might be trophies!

Is it pink enough or should I add another Instagram filter?

Pink is the New Orange

Numerous prisons, drunk tanks and hospitals have recognised pink’s calming effect on people (https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/jails-painted-pink-calm-inmates-2268174.amp).

On that note, meet Steve. An inmate at one of Canada’s most violent prisons. Prior to prison he had anger management issues and was frequently caught in bar fights or stealing candy from children. Nowadays, Steve lives a calmer life serving his time in prison by enjoying the yoga and craft activities on offer.

See how calm they look? No prison fights or riots going on there 😂

The voting is over, Hanna takes the cake!
Both sprites are awesome, and while Hanna did make something really useable in a game, Creamy is continuing strong with the same technique from the last time. Speaking as an artist myself, that sprite is what I call a one-shot, i.e. you gotta get it right on the first try as the texhnique doesn't give any leeway for mistakes, like drawing in ink or ballpoint pen. It's a perfectionist tool and I salute the effort.

Congrats Hannah!
I'd love to play a game in a world of yours someday.

Thanks Jim. While I spoil paper with this technique, I must confess that I'm not good enough to get the result right with felt-tip pens only. The legs, left arm and body were drawn separately. The right arm and lots of other things were edited digitally.

I went through reams of paper when I was doing ink, and while later on I did ink over pencil then erase the graphite, there's a certain finality to direct ink. (and the lines looked better too)

Thanks everyone! Will get thinking of a new topic. Hopefully we get a few more entries into this competition, always more fun with a few to choose from.

And nice one Creamy, I also salute the effort of ink (even with digital editing). It's a tough medium to work with and get right! You seem to be mastering it!
