Sprite:
An item used to pass a door in the game. (either unlock it, open it, force it open, blow it up, etc)
The item has to fit the inventory slot in this interface :

Rules and Entry:
* Your final entry must contain your sprite on the single inventory slot as supplied above.
* The item has to fit this slot properly like it would do in a normal adventure game.
* No resizing of the inventory slot unless it's for zooming.
* The item has to make sense of it's usage to open the door - you wouldn't want your player to get stuck because it didn't make sense, however crazy is fine.
* Antialiasing the sprite edges is allowed.
* No color limit.

Shiny barred door trophies for the lucky burglars :)

Current Entries:

Ghost

The perfect biological weapon to overcome *any* door (provided it is wooden):

Woody McGrub, the woodworm. No need for keys, explosives, crowbars- he just *eats* the door.

Stupot

A Window

Simply place the window on the door.  Then smash the window and reach in to unlock the door from the inside.

ThreeOhFour

Very nice drawing by Ghost, very nice concept by Stu. I'm still stuck for ideas but :(.

Stupot

I can't wait until the fourst of April to find out who wins.

Svartberg

Ooh, 2 entires already, I have a feeling this is going to be a fun competition so I've added some trophies :)

It's amusing that in every competition here, the participants feel they have to make a crazier and more original idea then the previous ones.
Like most competitions here, the quality of your artwork is the key thing here. (no pun intended)
You have about a gazillion different possibilities here, just make something you enjoy working on and have fun :)

ildu

Yo, dude! As they come, add the entries into the interface mockup you have there. It'd be cool to see them all gathered in the inventory :D.

Gilbert

This is a... hole...

Just place it on the door and you can get through.

Well, that's not a real entry as it's obviously a copycat idea anyway.

Here is the real one:

Just chain the woodpecker on the door, leave and re-enter the scene several times until it's done.

I don't know Gilbot, I think your art skills on the hole look a lot better than the bird.
Lol Joking  I like it a lot.

Ok so I went for the standard key!  Somebody had to, sheesh.

HitchHiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(entry 3464-sector 4-level of entry 2)
Name: Zap-O-Unlock Gun
Another product by the Sirius Cybernetic Corporation, which complain department now covers 3 planets of the Tau system. This fine looking gun function is to serve its owner by helping him unlock any type of doors. If set into auto unlock it will automatically unlock any door in its vicinity within an AOE(Area of Effect) of 1 light year. That's the reason why the Sirius have all of the planets of Tau system filled with the complain department.

It's a bomb. Commonly used for: Taking out tanks, blowing up reactors, causing an explosion which cues the main character to do a cool diving pose, or removing obstacles.

NOTE: this works only if there is a man at the other side of the door  :P

just use the kit on yourself, then push the door bell and say with erotic female voice "Hi. My car stops in front of your house. Can you please help me?" (don't forget to say something like "ohhh" "uhhh" too)

done! door is now open  ;D

Ultra Magnus

I've got two ideas for this.
One is insanely simple and practical, the other is just insane.

I take it I can't submit them both, so which should I choose?
I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

I'm tired of pretending I'm not bitchin', a total frickin' rock star from Mars.

lo_res_man

The insane one, but of course!
I think I have an idea. .. saving spot!

I think writting next to power- saw says everything!
[EDIT] Sorry- i posted bad link and then my internet connection did not want to work.

brokenbutterfly

The Woody McGrub character is awesome!!
It should star in its own AGS game!... a feeling of deja vu here  ;D
Ok I'll stop or I'll start sounding like a Ghost fangirl (which is probably what I am though)

But seriously, I like Gilbot V7000a's idea the best! The woodpecker one. If you've got some time to spare, entering and exiting 100 times isn't too bad  ;D

Mr. Suit

I wish i'd drawn better on this one, but I had problems coping with the image's small size :-\.
Here it is: A credit card, if you've seen any movie ever, you know how this works on doors.

There's nothing glorious in dying. Anyone can do it.

Three biscuits, an upside-down sign and a flute.

Well, mine's not quite that insane.
More tenuous.

Nice entries so far, will be really hard judging the first places for this one ;)
For those who haven't posted their entries yet, there's still a whole week left for the competition :)

My item has an entry on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Anyway, i'll write an entry for the winner.. even if it's the jedi sword...

"Good morning.  This is Guard Jenkins, yes?  Guard Brian Jenkins?  We have your wife and your daughter, Jenkins, lovely Beth and little Maria.  They will not be hurt, if you can be a good little boy and open the door when my men arrive at 23-hundred tonight.  Think of your family, Jenkins.  We know you'll do the right thing. *click*"

Yes. Sorry for the useless post. I'd promise a sprite in this location, but I am not currently being inspired.

Hello I am new here but thought I would give this a try. ;D

Trained Mouse

"Your little furry friend scurries under the door and flips the lock from the other side."

Paper Carnival

Well, crap, it seems I'm too late. I made this sprite before seeing Mr Suit's entry. Does my entry still count?

A plastic ID card:

Ghost

I think if two persons have the same idea, the quality of the sprite is the deciding factor...

@eggie: How would I open a door with a flute, three biscuits and an upside down sign???  ;D

miguel

Pleeaaaaaase!!!
Everybody knows that a Jedi sword should allways beat rats!

ps: sorry about your mouse Spike, I couldn't help it, it's my stupid humor ;D

Careful, it doesn't take much for a mouse to rebel

especially when it's saved as a .jpg instead of .png  ;D (my mistake  :-[)

EDIT: This is not an entry (duh), it was just made to defend Spike4072, I like mice  :)

ShadeJackrabbit

I'm not even going to draw what would happen if a bomb and a rodent met... just play NiBiRu to find out...

Can't avoid common ideas like keys, cards and such to have multiple entries - but you wouldn't want people to ripoff eachother for the more creative ones - I think that's common sense, and so far everyone is doing well :)

I thought you leave the note on near the door with biscuits, then hide behind one of the bushes and play the flute to lure the guard out, who will leave it open in exchange for the biscuits.

Gilbert

Funny that this thread has been transformed into something else. ;)

I'll suggest adding a line to these posts, clarifying that they're not entries though.

I was going to say annoying.

It's annoying to have to sift through countless off-topic and meaningless posts to find actual entries in a competition thread ... it's the reason I don't enter the competitions anymore.

All current entries are now shown in the first post as a nice inventory stack, no need to go through all these pages anymore :)

rock_chick

I can't draw for well you know, so this image is rather lame but I thought I'd at least contribute because I've wanted to enter one of these activites for a little while now.

It's just an axe, simply use it to chop your way through the door(saying "here's Johhny" is optional! ;D

The image slot looks a little incorrect because my copy and paste didn't go as well as I thought but it's not intentional!

OneDollar

I guess its up to me to lower the tone with everybody's favourite adventure game solution!

Because all locked doors always have the key left in them and turned to the correct angle for pushing out with your screwdriver, and all doors have a gap big enough to pull a key under on a newspaper. All doors.

Here's my entry, the first ever entry for a Sprite Jam, or indeed, any competition:

3x

Use your awesome guitar skills and, indeed, your awesome guitar and shred some awesome metal solos to melt or blow away the puny door.

Nothing stands in the way of METAL!

Svartberg

Thanks everyone for your entries  - a lot of great entries, which made my job extremely difficult .. The top entries were just a hairline away from each other ...
Anyway Time to announce the winners:

Paper Carnival

Fits perfectly to the slot, nice diagonal lines, good color balance and the details (such as the pic and stamp) makes it an ideal inventory slot I would like to see in a game.
Well done on getting gold for this one, and best of luck organizing the next Sprite Jam.

Ghost

You've made the first entry and set the bar very high for the rest of the competitors.
Woody McGrub (tm) has a lot of character, fits the slot neatly and the colors mix pleasantly to the eye.
And on a sidenote - yes, he should have his own game, talkshow and snackfood line :)

Gilbot V7000a

You've added a tropical touch to the competition :)
Good form which fits the inventory slot nicely.

Thanks everyone for your entries.
Aight, it's now up to Paper Carnival to make the next Sprite Jam :)

Stupot

Damn.  I was hoping the He-Man wig would win it...
