Title: Sprite Jam... WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Post by: Nacho on Mon 11/07/2005 13:55:03
You are the main royal pixel artist from the pixel land... but Christopher Jonesus III, the King, wants to cut your head and substitute you by a 3-D artists expert in bryce!!!

Save your live by making some pixelart for the royal museum! The King likes portais, so, make portaits!

Rules:

-Colours and size: 70% of the score will be based in the technical aspect... so, make it nice, no matter how pixels you need, or how many colours.

-Size: 30% of the score will be based in the size... The SMALLER, the BETTER! You are a pixel artist... But remember that 70% of the score is based in the technical aspect... I know you can make it a recogniseable Hitler using 10 pixels and adding the rediculous moustache, but have in mind the first point! Maybe if you want to win you'd think in making it a little bit bigger.

-Recognisability: IMPORTANT: At least one of the AGSers must reply guessing correctly who did you paint! I know you may want to make a homage to your favourite local band singer, or to your neighbourhood's baker... But have in mind that you might not enter in the challenge if nobody knows who he is... The more universal the character is, the better.

*Note: If you little bastards want not Loominous, ProgZmaz, Mr. C, etc... to participate, you might be tempted on intentionally omit the name of the character. That won't probably work because then, if the character is recognisable, I'll guess as an AGS member and as the host of the challenge, hahaha!!!

Having this in mind, no matter who do you paint... Lovelly and disgusting characters are allowed. Good luck on saving your head!

Example... Who is he?

EDIT

*Don't put the name of the character in the file name!*

*PM me with the correct name of your character*

at 2 colours and 6x7px is legoman, but which one??!? THAT'S the tricky part. Ok, This isn't my real entry. But it should inspire everyone to enter for now.

"as small as possible"

hell no! I couldn't make it recognizable even at 32x32...

Based on the hair I'd say that's an anime character of some kind.

No way. Can't you see that's Larry Laffer? From Larry 2, man! He's got the "wig" on! Dunno where he got the moustache, though...

[ontopic] Damien's has me stumped. [/ontopic]

Damien's looks like Natasha Kaplinski.
Al_Ninio's looks like Einstein, though I would have expected the famous sticking out tongue pose.

Post by: Nacho on Mon 11/07/2005 20:20:56
he... I am realising of something... If I recieve the PM, I won't be allowed to guess who the character is! :) Well, I'll have to trust in your honestity. I think InCreator has made Chris Jones, but he shouldn't be allowed to enter in the challenge because he hasn't PMed me before the people started to guess....

We will allow him to participate because this is not as serious as being member of the olympic comitee... :) Anyway, when people guess, challengers, try to be honest and say if they're right or not. Damien's girl is not that Natascha, but I am sure he'll be able to participate, because the sprite really resembles the actress character...

*EDIT* Yes, he was supposed to be Lincoln... Al_Ninio oficially enters in the competition with his Albert Einstein!

Exc is obviously a member of the KKK. Accourse, the fact that the file is named "kkk.png" kinda supports this theory.

well the point isn't for you to look at the file name but to look at the sprite.  :-\
I've got tons of stuff on my computer and I like thigs organised...

But but but:
Quote*Don't put the name of the character in the file name!*
I think it's considered as a rule.

Also:
Quote-Recognisability: IMPORTANT: At least one of the AGSers must reply guessing correctly who did you paint! I know you may want to make a homage to your favourite local band singer, or to your neighbourhood's baker... But have in mind that you might not enter in the challenge if nobody knows who he is... The more universal the character is, the better.

So it's a requirement that someone recognises your character without you giving explicit hints, failed to do so might make it a rejected entry.
In your case I think your sprite was very well done but I think it couldn't be considered a valid entry, you may of course, make another valid entry.

P.S. Actually I don't know who is Freddie Mercury so I don't care. :=

Post by: Nacho on Tue 12/07/2005 09:12:34
Gilbot is right... But as said, this ain't that serious, I think Viktor's sprite is good enough for considering that people should have guessed it without reading the file name, I actually did...

I can't say the same about Exsecratus... Some people missed who the character was before somebody pointed the file name. I think I can consider Exsecratus out, but he's allowed to enter another entry, I presume...

Now people... try not to put the name of the character in the file name!!! And go go go! Try to save your head!

Oh, mind you, in both cases I had recognized the guy without first looking at the file name. Including the kkk guy. I checked the filename just because - I was having a kick of what people put there being carefull not to put the name (I quite liked "guesswho" ;D )

It's been difficult... ProgZmax entry has been supperb in all aspects. Ali's Lennon is a lovely show of intelligence on using an icon as a portait. I loved it... Freddy Mercury was a great entry too! At the first glance I recognised those teeth... the cartoon has been perfectly made, it can't be done with less lines.

The bigger entries are perfect too, but too big for wining. Great Einstein and Shelleck.

Sorry about the KKK guy, but I thought it was a condom... Next attempt will be better, for sure!

So... The winner is Damien and his lovely Charlize... The only girl. I had to declare winner a female character, girls are cool... I love them ^_^.

Perhaps there should be a backup winner in case the winner doesn't create a new thread within a day or two.

What am I talking about? That would never happen.
