Deadline: 25 Jamuary
VOTE NOW OR UNTIL February 1st:

And the moment that we waited comes to the fore!

First I need to thank everyone who participated in this competition.
You accepted the challenge to hunt your "thing" and I'm sure that was
one more enriching and funny experience in the wonderful adventure
that is dive into your own "dark" depths.

What came to light was much more than a drawing of a "terrifying creature" ...
Each participant emerged to the surface many traits and words full of memories,
preferences, fears, desires, and a plethora of information about yourself and
your steps.

Perhaps more than would have imagined...

Someone have said "God is in the details" ...
I feel that "God" is not alone inside of us...

We can find a myriad of names to call everything that we extracted here...
Maybe ART is the one that best fits, because not exclude any other possibility.

Thank you, my friends ...
You tattooed my humble soul with memories that will be unforgettable for me!

Floating Foam - by Castro Alves

do peregrino na terra hospitaleira, onde vagara;

a lágrima saudosa do marujo...
possam eles, ó meus amigos!
— efêmeros filhos de minh'alma
— levar uma lembrança de mim à s vossas plagas!...

It was by one of those afternoons where the blue of the eastern sky - is pale and wistful where the wind's rumor in the vergas and is monotonous and cadent, and the break of the wave on the gunwale of the ship - is complainant and lugubrious

From the west side the sun penetrated in the seas
"as a brig on fire" ... and the vast fire from the dusk
spreaded by the blond head of the waves.

Beyond ... the granite hills of this beautiful land of Guanabara, fearful, fight against the invader wave of blue, coming down from the heights ... clashing undecided in the  horizon's gloom.

Far away, even further away ... the fantastic peaks from the saw of "Orgãos" soaked by the distance, disappear, launched in a sort of heavenly wreck.

Lonely and sad, leaning against the ship's edge, I followed with eyes that undefined evanescence and my soul clung to faltering form of the mountains - the last watchtowers of the tents of my youth.

It's there, in these Southern lands to which I had led the fire of my full enthusiasms, the luxuriance of my full illusions, my twenty years of lifeblood and youth, my hopes of glory and future: ... these lands of the South, where I penetrated "as the young Raphael climbing the stairs in the Vatican," ... now returned silent and broken ... bringing only one ambition - the hope to rest in my country.

Then, in the face of these two sorrows - the night that descended from heaven - the loneliness that rising from the ocean - I remembered you, Oh my friends!

And I felt sorry for remember that will soon nothing would be left from the pilgrim on this hospitable land where him had wandered; not even the memory of this soul, that whith you and for you lived and felt, groaned and sing ...

Oh wandering spirits on earth! ! Oh full sail on the seas ... Ye know how much ye are as ephemeral ...  - passengers that you drag into the dark space, or in the dark oblivion.

And when - comedians of infinity - hiding in the backstage of abyss, what's left of you?

- A belt of foams ... - flowers lost in the vast ocean's indifference.
- A handful of verses ... - floating foam in the life's wild dorsum...!

And what are really these my songs? ...

As the foams, that are born from the sea and sky, from the wave and wind, and are children of Muse - this breath from the high of a heart - this pelago of the soul.

And as the foams, sometimes are the dark flora of the storm, and sometimes fracture in the fateful crackling from the doom's whip.

And as well as the the golden moisture of the foams reflects the rainbow's glittering opal, it's reflected by chance the fantastic prism from the enthusiasm - these bright signs of God's covenant with the youth!

But like the floating foams carry, floating in the sea loneliness, the longing sailor's tear...I wait, Oh my friends! - Ephemeral childrens of my soul - that send a souvenir from me to your shores ...!

I spent so nicely too
The last few days with you

When I met you, it was so fine
I didn't talk a lot to you

The last few days with you

You've been going just where I've gone
All my people you have seen

Perhaps they will make you laugh
Or make you sure about we two

Develop, baby, our photographs
Perhaps they will make you sure
Perhaps they will show you nothing
Nothing, but a shade of blue.

In Brazil "Nêga" is the tender term to designate the black-skinned woman, but is also commonly used by Brazilians (especially those born in Bahia) to refer the beloved woman independently of her ethnic origin. "Nêga" has a similar context to "Honney" "My Sweet" and etc ...

now it's getting really cryptic... 8-0 8-)

Should the "Thing" be in pure pixelart? I ask because you seem to have blurred the Background which is not pixelart.
I get the twilight thing, you want to see a nice atmospheric sky for the Thing. But what's up with the track? Do we listen to the track hidden somewhere inside thousands of spoilers and ... what?
Title: Re: Sprite"JAN" / Jam15 to Jam25

Hi, Selmiak!
Thank you for expressing interest in the challenge!
Isso me deixa muito entusiasmado!  :-D
(It makes me very excited! )

Well...

The "Thing" must be in agreement with what it expressed within you.
Therefore the "Thing" might or might not manifest only in pixelart.
The big challenge is to free the mind to explorer all the possibilities ...

Allow even the "doubt" would become an instrument for creating!

I put the red band in the picture example just to Indicate where
the "Thing" should arise, but it's arms, Tentacles, neck, antennas
or any extension of the torso can be extended for all
background since not covering it completely.

About the track: It should serve as inspiration to create
an illustration (a situation or event) that may or may not be
connected to the "Thing".

An example:
Spoiler
Draw a couple taking a selfie and the "Thing" behind, emerging from the sea, with a sign which reads "No Flash, Please!" or doing "Peace and Love" with his hands.

Legend: Develop our photographs As simple dreams that will come true
[close]

Another example (this example kill two birds with one stone):
Spoiler
On the plane the banner could be written: "Use Shampoo The Thing!"

Legend: I Mentioned only your smooth hair You made a speech about shampoo.
[close]

The lyric and audio music is available in MATERIAL FOR EXTRA BONUS option.

Just remember that all bonus are only optional extra challenges (and they are worth points) but none of them is required.

I cheer for you to join my friend!

I am available to clarify or obscure any doubt... 8-) :P

I can already imagine the intensity that Your fright and your ability will create an unforgettable and wonderful grotesque surprise!
I am very grateful for answering my call for help. I feel as if the contest were awarded! And the best part is that this award will
be shared with all participants! I'm sorry ... but now it is impossible to control my enthusiasm with my own and lovely fear...
It's emerged!

"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown"

;)

And don't think that your great help free you from participating in this contest, okay?
Call for Mandle activaded! You are notified! If necessary I can even extend the
deadline to compensate the time that you spent devoting to this work.

About the image... yep!
As we say here: "DO CARALHO!" (nod)

In Portugal you would already had gotten a warning for use of such language... :P
Maybe in Brasil it is not such a bad word... ???
So, as we say in Portugal "Não havia necessidade"...:-\

Not likely, I don't like "things" and this challenge is a bit bigger than the time I have.

I can not speak for all Brazilians because like as in Portugal,
(regardless of "warnings") every person has a way of reacting with
the expression and the word.

Some people consider this and others words as dirties, vulgar... and while others people
see it simply as something natural.

But in my view depends largely on how it is being used.  ;)
Particularly I see no reason to feel offended when it is used to express admiration.

I honestly respect your point of view,
considering that i never say what should be good or bad for you.
But... respectfully pleases me your reaction because directly or indirectly end up having connection with
the theme of this contest... that's about all that haunts us, disgusts us, cause torment, admiration or desire.
Not by what the "Thing" can be, but the emotions that are awakened (or dug up) inside of us from it.

A little parable that I just invent now:
(everything is related to the theme and can provide inspiration or not):  :P

It was once a monkey ... very hairy ... his name was Prometheus.
One day while playing with a stick in his hands ...
He rubbed on a dry leaf ... frenetically ...
From the leaf started out a little smoke ...
He joined a few more leaves ... and came the fire!
Prometheus and his people came to live in caves ...
Because of the heat your animal hair began to fall ...
The monkey was now naked?
Yes... but... they have always been ...
They felt ashamed to be different from other hairy animals
And they proceeded to kill them and dress up with their skins
Much more than warm the cold ... warmed his wild spirit.
Yes... but... did not take much time to this monkeys feel superior
And so it got rid of the use  skins of inferior creatures ...
And they found other means to generate a new skin ...
A new skin that no make reference to their origin ... but their future ...
Future that does not seem like a place ... but an eternal way to distance them of all that is natural ...
A beautifool day one of the monkeys said:
Look out! Some words are naked!
That shameless!

I have often wonder...
What makes these words so dirties
Is it what is in our bodies?
In the sentence where we say?
Or maybe that is within the mind?
I don't know ... but i don't fear ...
And not bother me...
Actually instigates me.

As I often say to myself: "O preconceito é algo desnecessário..." (wtf)

Even without drawing or time ...
You just made a great participation in this contest!
And I am truly grateful for what you did, Cassie.  (nod)

Well, here's the souvenir available to all who enter the contest:

It's a T-shirt, adapted for a monster with an extra head and few extra limbs that's been through a bit of a battle with a similar foe:

[imgzoom]http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c201/Mandle/Souvenir09_zps7863faa2.png[/imgzoom]

And yes: I stole the T-shirt text from Gary Larson ("The Far Side" cartoons) but firstly: It was just too good to resist.

Mainly though...

"I rose from the depths and fought an epic battle with another giant monster and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!"

...wasn't quite doable within the pixel restraints...

I made a search and the series aired in 1981 ...
I had less than nine years at that time, something else would be calling my attention ... maybe Tom & Jerry.  ???
Despite this the "Cylons" are a little familiar to me.  ;)

selmiak made the character turned to the statue...
I thought was put someone facing the sea, without
the cup but with a undulating hair in the air like you did.

Cheers folks for the good words!!! I will vote tonight after work as I want to give it the thought it seriously deserves: Everyone's entries are just too good. I'm totally lost!

Oh, Pindorama, you might want to extend the voting time until, say February 1st or so: Some people don't login as often as us, so usually voting period is given at least a week ;)

Don't worry...everyone here is pretty patient and it's always good to get lots of opinions for voting...

After a bit of reflection on how lost I was to vote on all these awesome entries I think I have finally found a way:

I decided to vote in the order of my own personal S.M.P. Meter (Shit My Pants Meter)...This being the order in which I would personally S.M.P. if I actually saw that thing coming out of the water right before my eyes:

So...

#1: AprilSkies...Despite the obvious artistic and technical uber-skills, this is the thing that would make me S.M.P. the most: It looks the most savage and mind-bendingly insane...

#2: Soxbrooker...This thing just looks like it wants to eat up everything in its path. I also love the attention paid to the thing's anatomy. If you look carefully you will see that the front arm appendages are not as simple as they first appear...

#3: Cassiebsg...A freaking giant Cylon!!! Well that would make me S.M.P. I'm sure...Especially if the rest of your model is as awesome as this helmet!!! Also: the blending with the water spray is perfect...

As always: Best of luck to all...

(Added the l just for anyone viewing zoomed-out on their iPhone)

I hate voting, always feel guilty for leaving someone out. :-\

But...
1st - Selmiak - That picture is just so beautiful! I really think you should have taken care a bit more of the photographer though... he deserved better. (laugh) And I totally agree with M.V.R.! ;)

2n -  Soxbrooker - Cause I can see that on a Marvel/DC title! (nod)

3rd - AprilSkies - Cause I can just see that on a Manga/Anime! (roll)

4th - Mandle - Cause I can just see that on a Franco-Belgian comic Album... and scaring all the little children! (wtf)

PS - @Mandle
Spoiler

You would be disappointed if I left him fully emerge... cause the helmet is actually all I got atm... (laugh)
I don't really need it for my game, but since I "love" those guys and when abstauber said he was looking forward to see one... I just decided to do it and "finish" what I had started many months ago. (nod) It's still not perfect, but close enough that I could use it as is. ;)
And thanks for the kind words. :)

It was a suggestion of my daughter.
She had watched a few episodes of "Wacky Races" and suggested this idea.

She is a very special girl in my life ...
His birth brought a kind of madness that was missing in my heart ...the happiness! :-D

And most likely you know this sweet madness too!  ;)

"Well (wiping lips and chin with handkerchief)...That's the real thing that came from the depths of Mandle I guess..."

/me see Mandle's feet dragged out of view a few moments later...

I must second all of this!

Damn Pindo, if your games turn out half as entertaining as this contest then you'll have hits on your hands for sure!

(I personally would love to play a game where you suddenly get a Chuck Norris punch to the face in first-person view right out of nowhere, and then get to see Tim Robbins covered in Mandle-puke. And I'm not kidding! A game with your style of frenetic gifs popping up to show the characters' feelings would be hideously entertaining. Something like Ally McBeal's weird psychotic imaginings in the TV show of the same name...)

@Cassiebsg: I'm in the same boat now as I'm exactly out of space to host trophy links: I'm going to put them all in the same image, host that image myself, and use it as a single URL link...

Thanks again Pindo. Now I'm terrified to host the next one (laugh)

I've also had that idea, and put them in as one image, but the animated trophies, means it needs to be a gif and animated... kind of screws up the colors when I wanted to add a new picture to the collection...
And I love my little text quote... (no place, so I either need to add it to the picture or look at half cut pictures.) :(

Friends, as i promised the translation of the Castro Alves's poem
"Floating Foam" into the English language is already available in
the first post in this topic.

I tried to do my best!  :)

The inspiration for the theme of this contest comes when
i was reading this poem...

A BRIEF BIO

Castro Alves is one of the most important poets abolitionists in Brazil.
His work moves between romanticism and Parnassianism.
He died at age 24 (died of tuberculosis), a few months
after publishing a collection of 53 poems, including this one.

"Floating Foam" was written on a boat trip, as he departed
from Rio de Janeiro towards his homeland, Bahia.
In this poem, Castro Alves see the approach of death
and breathe all your sorrow and anguish in a ocean of words.

  - - -

To illustrate his inspired lines i used some works of the sensible
british artist: LS Lowry. His "naïf" images evoke so well the dense
and lonely atmosphere of this Castro Alves's poem.

There is also a link to a classical music poem of a brazilian composer
called Alberto Nepomuceno, the melody and the poetry inside of it
resonate in communion with "Floating Foam".

April...
Spoiler
I had noticed "Gymnopédie No.1" in your
work, so i think you will love to hear it.

I hope it's the appreciation of all.

:-D

This tip is worth gold, man!

I never heard of this series... but i watch this collection of scenes
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCC_YwDz6Yk) and I was very curious.

Somehow reminded me of a movie I saw when i was a little Pindo
and I think that also makes use of fireworks although a more
naive way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvMLfSQrHKE).

Mandle, this fear is already the mind at work ...
In my time I also felt it! This is great!!!!
Now I'm sure that the next contest will be
as creative, fun and challenging!   (nod)

Thanks Pindorama for hosting this!

I get the feeling of mission accomplished.
What made this contest in a special competition was precisely the participation of all!
Thank you very much!

Man, if I knew that you had so many brazilian's composers albums, especially those you mentioned,
I would have given to you 5 extra points for each of them! HAHAHAHAHAHA
