I thought I would try something a little different with this competition, seeing as though so many people like to enter...
Fighting game characters!
Yes, that's right citizen, your mission (if you choose to accept it) is either to:
a) create your own all-new fighting game character
b) transform your favorite old school graphic adventure character into the fighting game world (the character must still be recognizable somehow).
Additional rules:
The maximum size is 400x400 and the minimum is 80x80 (some have requested I reduce the minimum size, so there you go! This includes background space). Fighting game characters are typically quite large.
The character MUST be detailed. In fighting games, detail in characters and personality are every bit as important as crazy combos, so NO COLOR LIMIT!
Here is a sprite I made awhile ago to give you a few ideas...I call him Blanka on Roids..

What, no entries yet? Well here is another sprite (a smaller one) that might give you some more ideas!

Looks reminiscent of Hoagie surfing, Tiki.
Hmmm... is that first one supposed just to be an example? 'Cause I don't know him from any adventure game...
Blanka is from Street Fighter. Not an adventure game, but a game none the less.
Tiki you stole my idea damnit! >:( :P
Rui:

Means it doesn't have to be from an adventure game.
I'm working on an entry now...
Ok. I only asked because it was neither a brand new character (well, unless you want to look at it that way, as opposed to "revamp of old character") neither adventure game:
Quotea) create your own all-new fighting game character
b) transform your favorite old school graphic adventure character into the fighting game world (the character must still be recognizable somehow).
EDIT - Pablo posted as I was typing, but I guess it still stands.
a) create your own all-new fighting game character
It IS a new character. He was not designed with blanka in mind (I drew him from a concept painting I was given, that's another story) but there is a distinct similarity.
Right, gotcha.

Is it just me or does that look like a very ugly woman or just a very gay guy. :P
But lets just forget about that, it looks good anyway, better than I'd ever do. All the other entrys are great too, and funny!

It's just you. I think it's terrific. Really matches "cut-scene Mika" from I Spy 1.
Can I just take a moment to say that I love your swfs, inkoddi
thanks
This... took too long.

This was supposed to be Rosella but it kinda turned out... Final Fantasyish. :P Other than that, enjoy.
Holy jumping mother o' God in a sidecar with chocolate jimmies and a lobster bib! It's Max, and he's got a turkey carving knife!

200x220x10
Edit: I got rid of some double pixels, straightened out his knife and lengthened the ears a bit.
Since this is the first time I've seen so many GOOD to EXCELLENT entries in a sprite jam, I'm going down the list!
Tiki- At one point I was going to select yours because, in spite of Roger's impossible musculature he just looks cool! Nice work.
TheBrat - I have no clue why, but for some reason that winnie the pooh drawing just seems cool! Great idea.
Opo- From a technical standpoint, your sprite is brilliantly drawn. I wonder though how applicable the character could be in an actual fighting game heh
Exscratus- Since the object of the comp was to make detailed fighting game characters, I'm not sure where your sprite fits in.
Inkoddi- As always, your bizarre style intrigues the masses! I'd like to see a 'Wibble Wobbler' fighting game ;>
InCreator- Gabriel Knight looks like the blonde dude from Streets of Rage!
nice work!
Gilbot- A very well made sprite, and the wind effect is great. As with Opo's entry, I wonder how this character could fit into a fighting game, though.
Damien- Very well done. It has a Dragon Ball Z Tournament look to it.
Highwaygal- The time you spent on this sprite shows. Great work.
Farlander- Great attention to detail, but look at that calf! He's dressed like a UK cyclist, though, so maybe that explains it.
Loominus- No one will doubt, I'm sure, the technical expertise of your image. Your use of shades and pose really make the character seem almost three dimensional. I'm not sure how well a design like this would fit into a video game, but I'd like to see it.
Dart- Your use of colors here are really nice, but again, I'm a fan of darker hues. The pose is also cute, almost like a chinese action movie ;>
Caine- Max with a butcher knife! I like how you kept the shading to a minimum but still gave it a feel and style that would work well in a game.
And finally, the winner. Well, it wasn't easy by any means for me to select from the list, but the design most applicable to a fighting game in my opinion would be Farlander's. His use of shading and pose really make the sprite work. Great job, everyone!
Heeey! I totally missed this thread! I won? Wooot! I feel weird, the sprites were so good! I'll post ASAP the new sprite jam thread, maybe this afternoon, asap as I come from work. Thanks Prog, and thank to the others for making this Sprite Jam so enjoyable.
