Title: Tune Contest: April 19th - 26th
Post by: Gregjazz on Wed 19/04/2006 20:18:24
Hello fellow music makers, our topic this week is:

Ambience

Being able to create ambient background music is a very important skill for game musicians and film composers. The goal is to try to make your entry convey as much emotion as possible without being assertive (I.E. it will sound like ambient background music and not necessarily an actual tune with a big, loud, imposing melody, etc.).

I imagine entries will vary from lush orchestral arrangements to moody electronic soundscapes.

As always, have fun!!

An odd, hopefully creepy ambient tune. A little Eraserhead influenced in style. No real tune as such, but as background music it could hopefully be very effective :) Took a while to make for a rather unimposing sound, but I feel it was worth it. Mixing was surprisingly difficult I must say.

If my internet conection comes on before the 26th ( :P) I will probably enter. I really need to practise something like that.

BTW, the last contest was really really really great! I'm really sorry that I had to miss it!

This is the first time I tried to do something like this. I made it completely with Fruity Loops 6:

It's inspired by Tomb Raider and a bit by Thief. This is the kind of stuff I think you are looking for, I hope I'm right!

EDIT: Go here instead

It's a remastered version, I fixed the balance between bass and treble frequencies and I think it's better now.

I know I'm late so if it does matter, don't count this as an entry. But I thought "Why not?"

There were too many good entries!! You guys are all getting better and now it's getting harder and harder to judge these contests. I really mean that--this contest turned out some great music!

However, I particularly liked Nikolas's entry--it was particularly moving, without being very assertive. So congratulations, Nikolas, and looking forward to the next contest!
