Title: Tune Contest (Jan. 24 - Jan. 31): Favorite Book (Extended to Feb. 4) WINNAR!
Post by: MoodyBlues on Thu 24/01/2008 04:30:27
Compose the main theme for your favorite book or book series!

I'm keeping this pretty open, but there is one restriction:  Your theme must be completely original.  If your book was made into a movie, you may not use any music from that movie.  For instance, feel free to write a theme for Jurassic Park, but don't use any of John Williams' score.

Have fun; good luck!

Interesting theme!

I actually wrote this tune a while back after reading Anne of Green Gables! It's not exactly my favorite book(s), but it did evoke quite a few sentimental feelings in me! ;D

In My Treehouse By The Lake (http://www.thomas-regin.com/files1/In_My_Treehouse_By_The_Lake.mp3)

I hope that using an older piece won't disqualify me! :)

Hope you'll enjoy it!

/Thomas.

PS: It's important to stare dreamily out the window while listening! ;)

Completely original? Check.
No ripping from original content? Check.
Chance to win this contest? None!

If your ears dare, there's my tribute to the X-Files. Well, there's loads of books, so I didn't pick any particular one.

It's style is supposed to be drum'n'bass, so I won't have false hopes knowing that majority of AGSers are rockheads.
I don't recall anyone offering anything like this in tune contest, ever.

But it was still fun to make. Vocal is from some very old radio show, totally unrelated.

These are sounding really good!

There's one more day left, but if anyone needs more time, I'd be glad to extend the deadline.

(ThomasRegin:  Using an older piece is fine.  :))

I suggest extending the deadline. Try to get atleast 3-4 entries before closing the compo.

I'll extend the deadline to Monday, February 4.  That way, people can have this weekend to work on their entries.

i had what would've been a good entry in the works before this competition evenstarted (as i mentioned in a previous post) but there were just too many things i wanted to fix/do to it and i just didn't have enough time this time - I got lots going on plus i'm working on music for 2 other games at the moment.  So i won't be entering this competition.  But i'm going to try to get the next one!

(Aw, dengit.  Maybe you can save that song and enter it in another competition.)

Anybody need more time?  If not, I'm naming the winner tonight at midnight.

Increator:  Your song is fantastic!  This would make great driving music; the beats are strong, and the melody is simple but pretty effective.  The section that starts at 1:14 is especially nice and spacey.  And who doesn't love an old-timey radio show clip in their trance?  It doesn't quite fit the X-Files, though; it's not quite creepy enough.

Thomasregin:  Dayum, your song's awesome, too.  It's very old-fashioned and sentimental - a bit like parts of the Spirited Away soundtrack.  The violins get a bit squeaky at points, like at 2:09.  2:58 has a bit of a rough transition, but after that, this song just takes off and finishes strong.  And it seems to fit the feel of the book - a little sad, but mostly optimistic.  Very classy!

Both songs were great, but I think A WINNER IS THOMASREGIN.  CONGRATURATION!

Yay, I won? Thank you! :D

InCreator, I liked your tune! It was a little rough around the edges, but a really cool driving tune as MoodyBlues mentioned!

So what do I do now?

/Tom.
