Title: Tune Contest: May 1 - 7!!!
Post by: Peter Thomas on Sat 01/05/2004 06:29:55
Well...

there's not much to say really.

I won the last contest by default, so I don't feel too honoured ( ;)) but I guess it means everybody's been really busy (myself included).

With this in mind, I've decided that this week, the idea shall be simple and quite broad, so that there's little pressure.

Topic for this wonderful week :

FAIRYTALE SOUNDTRACK!

That's right: just pick one SINGLE moment from your favourite fairy-tale and orchestrate it. I don't necessarily mean for you to write a score that details the whole bloody storyline (though you're more than welcome to, if you really want) - Just pick a single idea, and write something fitting. For example, you might think of the giant climbing down the beanstalk (from Jack and Beanstalk), and write a brief piece that allows the listener to imagine it in his/her mind.

Just be sure to say WHAT your inspiration is when you post it :)

God-speed.

Ah I see, so like incidental music. That's cool, I'll definitely enter this one.

EDIT:

Ok, I guess that was quick, I finished my entry.

Here's the midi:

I'll just quote the Fairy Tale text:

"I saw a little house, and in front of the house burned a fire, and around the fire danced the most grotesque little man, hopping on one leg and crying:
Tomorrow I brew, today I bake,
And then the child away I'll take;
For little deems my royal dame
That Rumpelstiltzkin is my name!"

Imagine the Queen's delight at hearing the name--
and when the little man stepped in shortly afterward and asked, "Now my Lady Queen, what is my name?" she asked first: "Is your name Conrad?"
"No."
"Is your name Harry?"
"No."
"Is your name, perhaps, Rumpelstiltzkin?"
"Some demon has told you that! Some demon has told you that!" screamed the little man, and in his rage he drove his right foot so far into the ground that his leg sank in up to his waist. Then in a passion he seized his left foot with both of his hands and tore himself in two.

Thanks, sluggo :D

Can't listen to it at the moment, because I'm at uni, but I promise I'll have a listen later.

I suppose 1 entrant is better than 0....

OKay, this is pointless.

No one's going to enter this late into the competition, so I might as well close it here.

The winner (surprisingly) is Sluggo. Rumplestiltskin was the last tale I would have thought of, but it worked out well, and it was an excellent interpretation. It really shone out from all the others.

So I hand the trophy back to you. Make us proud with a new competition, sluggo.

MAKE SOMETHING PEOPLE WILL ACTUALLY ENTER (;) - smiley for no real reason)
