Title: TUNE CONTEST (more than one entry please) 19th - 25th! - WINNER: OZ
Post by: Flippy_D on Tue 19/04/2005 19:20:07
Okay, disappointing that I won Homer-in-space style last time, especially seeing it was a brilliant concept (compose to a painting). He didn't really deserve just me entering to be honest.

SO WE HAVE ZE VARIATIONS (yes).

1. Fairy fountain!
-OR-
2. Sewer!
-OR-
3. Overworld!

GO!

Incidentally, I can totally appreciate MIDI more because I know how the stuff works and how hard it is. All tunes will be judged out of twenty with four catagories (suitability, compositional acumen (controllers/effects, instrument choice etc), imagination and damage just plain How Much I Like It), with each catagory scored out of five. MIDI will score one bonus point because it's just harder to make it sound really good.

However, I'm not going to just *dismiss* MP3s. Just send anything you like in. If you deserve to win, you will.

Get going already.

Well, I'll give my very best to enter this one. Let's hope that there's enough spare time to do it ...

What? Are these RPG terms? I vaguely recognize them but that's about it. ;)

lol... just tunes to fit them.

Fairy Fountain (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/z3fairy.mid) sample.

Overworld is the map screen, essentially. It can be pretty much any tune you want to be honest :P

Well, here we go.

Because the end is a bit abrupt, I'm working on an extended version. I don't have the time to complete it until next week, so this one should suffice.

Grant Me A Wish (http://www.gwebspace.de/hassu-irc/andere/GrantMeAWish.mid)

As the title explains, I have chosen the fairy fountain theme. It doesn't quite fit (at least to My imagination), but hey! It's my first song composed on midi.

fountaining cheers

Yay, an entry. Looks like it might be defaulting again, though...

Not bad for a first MIDI, Nil.

Deadline extended for Oz's sake. Post again if you can't get around to it.

That's impressive, Sluggo, though I did miss some kind of melody. It sounds permanently sounds like the beginning of a very good piece of music. Unfortunately it ends too early ...

Good work!

Alright! Rushed as usual, but here it is:

I'm not sure this is an appropriate entry for the fairy fountain theme (I have little experience in RPG gaming), but I sort of feel it could work. I put an asian touch on this one. Composed in Reason 2.5, note-by-note in the sequencer (using standard controllers), no loops (as people tend to ask). I hope you like it!

Suitability, Acumen, Imagination and Wuv-factor.

Oz: 3.5/5, 5/5, 4/5, 5/5 = 17.5
Sluggo: 2/5, 4/5, 5/5, 3.5/5 = 14.5 + 1 = 15.5
Nihilly: 4/5, 3.5/5, 3/5, 4/5 = 14.5 + 1 = 15.5

Oz wins, but I liked the other two; I was particulally impressed with Nihilyst's first ever MIDI. Were there an effort mark, you'd score higher :P

In fact, that's probably an oversight...

Sluggo, it was nice, and very ambitious, but I felt it was rather tempermental and undirected? Good use of strings, mind.

Oz, brilliant stuff, you annoyingly 'rushed' person (seriously what). Deserved winnar.
