Title: Tunetest > 26th October - 1st November: The 80s (now with trophies!)
Post by: BOYD1981 on Thu 26/10/2006 10:45:42
hello hello, welcome to this tune contest.
the theme of this week's contest? simple; the 80s.
yep, i would like you to make a tune with an 80s sound, this could either be electro pop, new wave, new romantic, 80s rock, synth (think jarre, kraftwerk etc), oldskool house, chicago house, even old nintendo/amiga/c64 game style or any other style just as long as you can hear the 80s influence.
go! make beautiful music!

edit: i've knocked up some 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies so hopefully i'll get atleast 3 entriesÃ,  ;)

If EVER there was a tune contest I was made for, this is the one, and I just happen to be making 80's style synth music for Drug Bust!

I present Moretti's Theme, remixed and remastered for your enjoyment!  If you love this you'll love the rest of the game.

Aw man, the little throphy-tapes are awesome!
Now I want to participate... maybe I'll cook up something glam-rockish... that's 80s, right?

Oh looky here I've made an entry but it's not for any game or anything I completely made it for this contest which is good because it makes me pot a brown in excitement. http://www.laserfrog.co.uk/poorap.mp3 The poo rap in all of it's recorded live glory, as if you were in the 80s recording it off of the telly.

Here is my entry. (http://homepage.eircom.net/~limpingfish/Tune.mp3)
I was going for that 80's John Carpenter sound. It's mixed arseways, though, and ends rather abruptly. :)

I've never really liked the music of the 80's, but I must admit that making the music is pretty funny.

Here's my entry:

The Nintendo Game Boy appeared in 1989... so it's still the eighties, right?

I had planned on recording it onto a tape and then off of it again, but I couldn't be bothered to scavenge the house for a proper tape recorder, so:

I once ate a tape recorder (http://armchairs.be/Inkoddi/taep.ogg)

Wow, that's amazing Indoddi. Those sounds are so cool.
Did you actually make them on your gameboy or did you sample it?
And if you did sample, where did you find those samples?

Alas, I do not actually own a physical Game Boy, so I had to use an emulator ._.

It sounds really authentic. What rom did you use for the emulator?

I used Carillon Editor, by Aleksi Eeben

Then there's Little Sound DJ which is more popular (costs money though)

Hope I'm not too late.
Pretty pathetic song. Wish I had've known about it sooner, everything I make is 80s.

well done and thanks to everyone for entering with some great tunes, i've had a difficult time choosing the winner but i've decided that 1st place has to go to LimpingFish's great track.
in extremely close 2nd place is RyRayer with another great tune, i just wish it was longerÃ,  ;)
and i'm giving 3rd place to Inkoddi for his awesome chip tune.
special mention to He-Man for a tune that reminds me of "B.O.B", one of my all time favourite Super Nintendo games, and for good use of cowbell :)
well done to Obi also, for including lyrics in his track (and for taking the piss out of WHAM :P)
