I'm not exactly sure how this works, but I know what I like, so here goes ;)

I've always been a fan of old school castlevania, so how about you impress me with your ability to mimic a castlevania-esque song?Ã,  And I don't mean that crappy classical stuff from Symphony of the Night, either :).Ã,

Give me your best old-school castlevania interpretation, and I'll give you the win.

Rules:Ã,

1.Ã,  Must sound like an old castlevania tune (that does not mean it has to be low-quality.Ã,  Use the best instruments you've got.)

2.Ã,  Must employ clever use of an organ.

Remember, you're shooting for older castlevania type music, not the newer classical stuff, so you can use anything from castlevania 1 to Super Castlevania IV (and Bloodlines, if you want) for ideas. (No, not simply a remake, just use them as inspiration ;) ).

Good luck.

Hmmm. So not a remake of one of the original songs?
Diversity is divine!

Well, I decided to go old school all the way. ;)
Here is the result:

The original castle vania was the source of inspiration for this one.
(The volume is a bit unbalanced because of the compression)

That is EXCELLENT! How do you do that?
Damn, I wish I could compose music like that...

Oz

Well, I was toying around some more with sine waves and came up with a second entry:

Largo,

I'm using Reason 2.5 (built-in synthesizers). I'm glad you like it! :)

This is obviously not that Castlevania-ish, because I don't really know Castlevania at all. I just listened quickly to the music for the C64 version, and then made this:

http://www.agagames.com/ghormak/sids/castle.sid (original sid version)

Edit:
And now I realise I completely overlooked rule nr 2. Oh well.
Achtung Franz! The comic

Oz: Excellent stuff, something one can expect from you. If I didn't know, I'd say those tunes are from NES games. Thumbs up.

Ghormak: Lovely! I was kinda expecting you to compose a tune using C64 instruments for this compo. Pure Ghormak quality.

Everyone else: I might enter too, depending on how I stay inspired... Hopefully I'll get my entry finished in time!

If school doesn't take all my time, I might enter.

Late, of course. ^_^/

Mloink.

Not as really as Castlevaniaey as I wanted it to be but bleh. Bit hurried towards the end, and when it was almost finished my CPU usage was in a point that the tune was not listenable in my composing program so I had to save it as wave-file, listen to it, open up the program, edit the tune etc. And eh, the parts with organ might not be really clever...

Here ... the idea is it would loop back somewhere in the middle I guess. Not too castlevania-ish ... but hey.

Wow, well it was kind of a tough choice between Petteri and pvanukoff but in the end I had to go with pvanukoff, the beat just rocks (and reminds me of one of the castlevania IV tunes).  You big winna, pvanukoff, and now you get to host the next competition!

Great job everyone

Congrats pvanukoff! Good job. :)

I wonder where pvanukoff is?
