It occurs to me that if we had known the Flying Spaghetti Monster was going to be the trophy, some of us might have been inspired to cobble together an entry in the hopes of being touched by his noodly appendage. And yet, no mention of this was made...

What other deity has splashed onto the scene so successfully in the past 100 years?  If you think about it, a contest about quirky modern deities almost demands an FSM trophy.  The real lesson here is that you should always participate in the FWC just in case.
