Title: X-prite Jam: Vth Feb to XIIth of Feb. "From eighties to nineties..."
Post by: Nacho on Sun 05/02/2006 14:37:27
Remember the sprites of the end of the eighties and the early nineties? How cool they seemed at the beginning and how shabby after the remakes of the nineties!

Do the same! Convert any of the old sprites you want into something new and cartoony, in the style of Ben Full throttle, CMI Guybrush or Bernard. Of couse, Sierra and other non-LEC companies sprites are allowed.

EXAMPLE:

50 X 150high pixels as much. 16 colours plus background colour.

I was born in 1989 but I have copies of pretty much ever LucasArts adventure game from 1988 - 1998. :P

I think this is intended to be something of a nostalgia trip; so if you don't know any examples, don't enter.

Silly me, I thought that were the dimensions and colors used in your example.

It's quite easy to do your own research, just type in names of old adventure games or search on The Underdogs by year.

I thought this was not going to create controversy... I want to see King Graham, Sonny Bonds, Roger Wilco, Guybrush, Indiana Jones, Larry Vales, Bobbin Treadbare, Elaine Marley, Zack McCracken... In 50X150, 16 colours.

I won't be bad. If you pick an old arcade game I will allow you to enter. Wanna pick Luke Skywalker or The Mario Bross? Ok... try to make him Fullthrottlish... Come on people! Enties, entries, entries!!!

Although this is quite interesting I won't be participating, cause I have NO free time in my hands right now. Buloght are you interested in selling some???

Just kidding! Nice sprites, man.
I remember when you joined and I can tell that all your effort and training are really improving your spriting skills.

Which one do I choose?!? I am not sure about the rules, but shouldn't be a bit unfair to have a member with 34 entries having the others just one?  :-\

Please, those who knows the rules tell me what shall I do...  :D

(There are more games than Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, San and Max, Zak McCracken, Larry, Jake "Pleurghburgh", Ben Jordan...)

Firstly, welcome and thanks for the compliment.

BUT, please don't say things like this. It's very far from true. I'm still very much learning pixel art. There are some true artists here (that i can't even begin to compare myself with)

You should check out work by: big brother, bernie, stefano, progZmax, loominous, andail, etc, the list goes.

They are the real artists.

Please don't say something like this again without checking the rest of the forums and games :)

Ok, Buloght sprites really blows everything away, really, just brilliant work, indeed. :) Great stuff.
Don't feel like I stand a chance, but I felt like doing something anyways, so I did one of everybody's favourite New Orleans bookowner and hunter of shadows - Gabriel Knight.

Awesome sprites, buloght, but why the pin-eyes? The ones with bigger eyes, like Kate, look so much more expressive.

I committed a great sin with this one, but what's done is done...Presenting, in Full Throttle style and colors, Prince Brandon from Legend of Kyrandia!  And...Malcom since he was in the reference.
Brandon is the one I made for the comp, though.

Remember: She's got a touch of exotic beauty about her ^_^ I'd even take a look at some of her close-up shots from the first game.

LOVE the circus guys, but I think that Sheriff is one of your best yet.

Wow, amazing stuff in this thread!

But enough of the "MI remake!" - there's a huge difference between a few standing poses and all the animation that would be required.

I have proposed to Steve's post and hope to marry it, that's how much I agree with it...

Awesome stuff, the Prince Brandon sprite actually makes him look good, god I hated that guy...

Now, everyone head on over to the animation competition, eh eh eh?

I'll enter yours if you enter mine, Farlander!

Thanks! :D

And the winner is... Pesty! By several reasons...

a)I love Pesty's legs.
b)I liked her sprite, and it made me re-discover the lovely graphics of Kyrandia. Awesome tecnique.
c)This is about quality, not quantity, sorry Bulought. It should have been unfair to reward an effort that, actually, we don't demmand. Next time effort more doing one. Not a little doing 32.
d)ProgZmax is probably the one that captures the spirit of the thing I had in mind better, but it was a bit too "Bennish", and Malcolm is too close of the original. So, I decided to give Pesty's the chance to enter in Hall of fame, ProgZmax already is.
e)Krysis, very very close, you've been the first choice till Pesty's entry.
f)Mordy... Next time make the box with the restrictions first, and paint. The Mêlée citizen was a quite good entry.

So, thanks for all!

but, but, my last entry was in the restrictions. hehehe.

anyway, congrats pesty.

going on quality, i would have thought it was between krysis and buloght.  :)
my favourites were buloght monkey island 2 guybrush and krysis' ghost skelly. 2 awesome sprites.  :-\
