So, folks, there is is. _Access is finally finished and released. Still, this is only a (nearly bug-free) beta version, so you know what to expect ;)

/EDIT: Yee haw, 1.2!
Before starting, I'd like to know if the bug (I think) from the first beta where the leecher wasn't added to your inventory has been fixed?
Um... now it is fixed, yes. Thank you.
I've downloaded AccessBeta.zip and AccessBeta2.zip... which one should I play?
Looking forward to the game,
- Ali.
The more recent one without the "Access open beta" message in the main menu. I think AccessBeta.zip. The one without the ccs.dll file. Have fun!
Thanks for fixing it. And congrats on finishing the game. But, um, the game crashed if the dll isn't in the game folder...
Edit: Also, on the WLAN/tracer screen I ended up getting this error message:
Quotein Room 12 script (line 13)
Error: MoveCharacterPath: move is too complex, cannot add any further paths
I'm guessing this has to do with adding too many waypoints for the tracer character. Probably letting the tracer "lose track" of your past movement when resetting the network would solve the problem.
Edit 2: Another bug related to the tracer (happened on the third tracer minigame) is that if it kicks you out while on the "starting field", you will not be able to log on again without being kicked off instantly.
Hi Akatosh!
I ask you about oblivion dragons :-)
No, but I downloaded access and get only an exception and errorbox
"an exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.exe at EIP=0x0043226;..."
(should read occurred since it is not cured). This is a fatal error. Either something is not in the installation kit or there is another reason for this error. Hope you can fix it.
Looking forward to your game
sthomannch, that's the error I mentioned about the missing dll file. Try downloading one of the older versions (like the one linked to in the games in production thread) and copy the ags_ccs103.dll file to the folder of the new version.
Damn it. I thought the CCS module was optional and I just forgot to remove it :P
Okay. I'll fix the mentioned bugs... thank you. After all, this is just a beta release.
This looks like real funny and cool unique game, early candidate for AGS Awards 08 Non-Adventure Game of the Year (anyone developing something better, prove me wrong).
However since I see that people who have downloaded it have experienced nasty fatal bugs, I'm gonna be waiting for the fixed version and skip the betas. So the faster the better...

My thought exactly, especially if Akatosh takes the time to streamline the interface and make it more user friendly based on user feedback. (I for one would love a dropdown menu of known IP addresses rather than have to 1) write them down on a piece of paper and 2) type them in every time).

Well, unless people play the betas and report the bugs, how is Akatosh going to fix them? ;)
Via bug-testers. :P I know he had some trouble finding bug-testers, but it seems to be becoming a trend, doesn't it, releasing "beta" versions so the public finds bugs to be corrected. Surely only final versions should be released, and patches *if* bugs are found. Come on, who wants to play through a beta that *may*, just *may*, have bugs that range from the minuscule to the game-stopping variety? This is passable in _Access, actually, it's Banana Man that grates my nerves since the final version turned out to be commercial, but that's another issue.
Ok, rant over. Congrats on getting it done, Akatosh! Will play it when I have the time, and hopefully when a truly final version is available.
Heh, thank you. Originally, I didn't want to release a beta version to the public, but I really had trouble finding beta testers, so it only seemed... logical. And it's marked as a beta version (and not going to be commercial ;)) so I think that's okay.
I'm fixing the mentioned bugs right now... and thinking of a way for an "IP Dropdown box"... this *must* be possible somehow...
/EDIT: It was. New version on-line
Try to download...

Same as last night, meaning *this* is what happened when I came back later. Forshame
Damn. This is it. I'm going to buy a server to stop being dependend on these sucky filehosters.
Ah, got the game. Still have the problem with the VOX, though. Ah well, I'll keep trying on and off.
Hey this "game" is pretty fun..
I'm stuck though..
Spoiler
I don't understand how to get the T++ builder to work.
Oh and I don't understand how to get pass the lock to the 3rd server with the two tracers.
Glad you like it! ;D
Spoiler
Let me guess... using the opening server to open it doesn't work, right?
uh..
Spoiler
opening sever?... I have no idea what you mean. When i right-click on T++ builder it says no project specified.
Spoiler
No no, that was directed at the LAN with the two tracers. The T++ Builder needs a project to open... you do that via 'using' a .ttp or .tpp file with it. You will be able to acquire one... later.
oh ha...
Spoiler
you mean the computer icon that is a light tan color that has a big lock on it? yeh it doesn't react when i link to it on the lan with the two tracers
Aw, that's a bug :(
You'll need the new version I'm going to post in a second. Really sorry for that... you'll need to start over. Anyway, thanks for spotting that bug and notifying me.
/EDIT: Version 1.0 is up. The "deluxe version" isn't yet, but will be soon.
Major update as I plan to enter this in a contest. Updates including an interface revision, an actually working help screen, a very very minor bit of chat interactiveness, and so on. Excitement!
Here's the version with music (formerly "deluxe") (http://esnips.com/doc/b47f6df5-ff5e-4854-812c-d954b57857fd/_Access)
Aaand
Here's the version without music (now "light", formerly the normal version) (http://esnips.com/doc/f042f97b-0024-447e-85a4-3957d36b8325/_AccessLt)
Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. C'mon, folks!
Ah, finally able to finish it. Very entertaining and very original. A couple of comments though:
1) The dropdown list of IP-adresses is great (thank you very much for adding it), but it would be even more awesome if it was actually clickable. It won't be more than a few lines of code to parse the text of the selected listbox item to the textbox (after cropping everything after the space) and it would really add to the usability.
2) It would also be excellent, if the Telnet box could be closed by pressing ESC or just clicking OK without entering anything.
3)
Spoiler
I thought the final encryption puzzle was great, but please, please, please allow us to view the encrypted txt while inside the T++ editor. It really sucks to have to write down all those numbers on a piece of paper first (perhaps even getting it wrong).
I wish you the best of luck in the contest!
That was quite enjoyable. It was very tempting to just dump the executable/data files with "strings" and just grab random IPs, but I managed to restrain myself. I liked the LAN minigame - it could be quite fun on its own given a bit of randomly-generated goodness. Anxiously awaiting part 2 :P
Spoiler
I ended up writing a Python script (http://paste.biz/paste-2342.html) to solve the end puzzle. Of course, you still have to type in the coded message from the screen :(
Hm... with the audience a game like that will likely attract, should I probably have expected that? :=
Anyway, glad you liked it :)
i think i really suck at this game because i can't figure out the password at the file server in the admin login (i'm trying to get the stupid demo)
(very, very early in the game)
i think i'm missing something thats totally obvious ??? ??? ??? ??? :-[
will someone please help because i like the game
but i'm stuck :-[
i'm going to register in the forums in a bit
Weeelll...
Spoiler
The friendly people in the in-game chat will sure help you out!
