Thanks for letting me know I'll fix it real quick

EDIT:  The problem is fixed for now but if it comes up again let me know.

For me, it didn't get better. There's a download link now, but it only leads to the same site as last time. I also tried to allow more cookies, it didn't help.

arj0n

works like a charm for me

For me as well but just in case, I mirrored here.

I have following trouble: I cannot load previously saved games, because they are not shown in the saves list. I found where they are stored, that is Users/<User Name>/Saved Games/A Night to Remember folder (I am using Windows Vista), but it looks like application just don't read them. At the same time I have played few other recently released games (like "This Game" and "Shifter's Box - Outside In") which also store saves in that standart Windows folder, and had no problems with it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: basically, game saves only one file all the time, agssave.001, because, as it seems, it cannot detect there're any savegames.

There were a couple pixel hunts, which I find to be annoying at times.

I also found a bug:

Spoiler
After finding the secret room, if you go back down to the secret room again immediately after, it won't let you leave the room, it says "I should talk to the others first."
[close]

Other than that decent game. It was also a pain after going back to
Spoiler
mess with examining all the items until it finally lets you use the cane on the hole

Okay, I found it WAS an AGS problem, as described here:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=38196

Unless The Author of the game is going to update the game to latest AGS version, I'll have to play the game without saving/loading.
Thus, I beg you, tell me, is it possible to die in this game?  ;D  Jst to be prepared for such... annoyance.

Snake

CrimsonWizard:
I don't believe you can die in this game, at least, I didn't. Somebody please correct me of I'm wrong.

You can't die... I fixed the bugs that were mentioned about a month ago  but maybe I accidentally linked the game download button to a previous game.

Crimson Wizard

Well, I played until

but there are already some things I wanted to say.

Hmm, too bad, now I won't know if the bugs/mistakes I am going to report are fixed or not.  ;) Anyway...

First of all, I wish to quote other people thoughts that I have agreed with and found most important:
Quote from: Ultra Magnus*Click detection was a bit squiffy, and the lack of feedback for most things meant that I never knew if something was not clickable or if I just missed the mark. A simple status line would help with this a lot.
*The cursor kept going back to the basic pointer, which would sometimes work, but just as often not. And after selecting an item from the inventory, it was quite annoying that I then had to cycle through the cursors to use it.
The last one makes me mad :(
Quote from: F1ak3r- The backgrounds and characters weren't in proportion. I refuse to believe that anyone has paintings that huge, or a closet with that high a ceiling.
Agree with this too.

Now, about the things that I found myself. Firstly, spelling... I don't like pointing other people spelling mistakes much, mainly because I am not a native english-speaker myself, and still can be wrong too sometimes, but these are cases which, so to say, struck my eye.
Spoiler

- "There are couple of diagrams desk." - Nathan sais this when looking at a notes at table. I wonder if it should actually read "diagrams ON desk"?
- "Im not a thief!" - When looking at the painting in the corridor with the doors to bathroom and a closet. There's apostrophe missing in "I'm".
- "Nathan, your finally awake" - Victor sais this when Nathan is captured, obviously "your" should be "you're".
- "November 18: This Nathan is truley annoying" - from Victor's diary. "truley" instead of "truly".
[close]
Also, there are several cases when phrases start with small letter, a point is missing in the end of sentence and sometimes a point ends a question instead of question sign.

Then, what I found generally bad.
1. When looking at doors in the Victor's mansion, you get the same "It's a door" message, however
Spoiler

when you interact with doors to bathroom or closet, Nathan sais he don't need to go to bathroom and closet respectively, so he actually knows what is there.
[close]
I think you should give player more info about where this or that door actually leads, in case character knows it already.
2. Personally, I found door-opening sound a bit sharp and irritating. Just my little "IMHO".
3. Some special animations are jumpy, either they are too fast, or lack frames. For example,
Spoiler
when guests are drinking the wine and fall asleep
[close]
.
4.
Spoiler
When Nathan is trying to get out of the White Room where he was tied up to chair, he sometimes stuck in kneeling position after doing something to chair. That is - he will remain kneeled until you click somewhere
[close]
5.
Spoiler
Actually, I believe it would be a good idea to play some *smacky* sound when Nathan hits Thomas by chair leg.
[close]
:)
6.
Spoiler
Cane puzzle is rather non-obvious in my opinion. There's absolutely nothing, in my opinion, that can make player guess he should seek cane in the boxes after he read the notes.
[close]
7. Characters rarely face wrong direction when opening a door or entering a new room. For example
Spoiler
Nathan was facing right wall when I first entered the secret stairs in the mansion.
[close]
8. I am not sure about this one, however
Spoiler
I actually think that Victor is handling the dagger wrong way when stabbing the first victim. I mean, blade is pointed so that it will be more difficult for him to cut well.
[close]
9.
Spoiler
When in prison, Nathan can walk upon the bed (walk-behind area mistake?)
[close]
10.
Spoiler
In prison, when you try to get the boulder off the wall, and your knife breaks, there's an extra unneeded generic message appearing after Nathan tells that knife has broken: "I am not sure what I would do with it", or something like that.
[close]
11.
Spoiler
Also, in prison, if you close the previously locked cell door, every time you want to open it again, it is appears locked! And every time Nathan sais that he hopes key will fit, although he already unlocked this door earlier.
[close]
12.
Spoiler
You cannot "examine" the brick in inventory (no message appears).
[close]

Now... there are few things that I found illogical. They are not critical, but they spoil the immersion in some way.
1.
Spoiler
When Nathan escapes Victor for the first time, and wanders around the mansion, if I click on the window in the room with fireplace, Nathan sais: "And get rain in the room?". Personally I found this strange to hear from a man who is seeking a way to escape the house; why would he bother of rain? There should be some other reason why he don't want (or cannot) open the window (guard dogs, for example).
[close]
2.
Spoiler
I found it strange that Nathan doesn't want to take a single knife in the kitchen istead of that rusty pocket knife. He is in danger and should perhaps be eager to defend himself with whatever items available!
[close]
3.
Spoiler
When Nathan frees other guests in the ritual room, they are calling him Nathan from the very beginning. I guess they shouldn't, because he was introduced to them as Arthur at first place, and they probably do not know his real name yet.
[close]
4.
Spoiler
When travelling in caverns, Nathan ones sais "A door blocking even more stairs", but he obviously cannot know that there are stairs behind the door, he haven't seen them yet!
[close]

Phew.... thanks for your attention, people :)

Ethan D

Wow, that was extremely helpful, thanks for pointing all the stuff out.  I have decided that I am going to re release the game in the future but first I'm gonna work on the sequel for a while.

Your absolutely right about the plot holes you found.

Some of the bugs however had been fixed in a previous upload, but as I said I'm going to re release it later so I guess I'll leave the bugs for now and focus on the sequel.

-Thanks!

CosmoQueen

Hey the download link doesn't work for me as well. It also just leads me to Mediafire.
KPop and AGS....................that is my life.

Ethan D

This is getting annoying... Oh well Ill fix it again. Not sure why it keeps breaking

arj0n

Ethan and CosmoQueen,

The download link will be shown as:
http://www.mediafire.com/?5nmzjy3wgtmConnection:%20close

For now just remove the "Connection:%20close" part and it will work:

Snake

Those are very good pointers that Crimson Wizard has pointed out. I'm glad to hear that you are taking them seriously.

I would love to see a remake and am looking forward to the sequel.

Ethan, if you want somebody to go over all the text in the game and edit it, I'd be more than happy to do this for you. I would do the graphics for you too, but I'm not too sure of the time I'd be able to put into them.

\\--EDIT--\\
I'm glad to see this is still getting responces, by the way :)
Grim: "You're making me want to quit smoking... stop it!;)"
miguel: "I second Grim, stop this nonsense! I love my cigarettes!"

Ethan D

Yeah, I really didn't expect to get this much attention for my first game. (Not to say I'm not thrilled  ;D

yuri999

When are you releasing the sequel?? FAST.... MORE DAMN IT  ;D ;D

Ethan D

I'm going to have to say that it will probably be a while for several reasons.

1) I just started college a week ago.
2) The quality will be better and the story longer and more complex
3) I'm upgrading A Night to Remember as well
4) I am not even completely done with writing the script yet for the sequel

Keep in mind though that I am working hard on this and I know a lot more now than I did when I started so it will not take as long to make the sequel.

By the way I appreciate people voting on the games quality as well as commenting on it.
