After a very busy 2 and 1/2 months - my game is out in the wild.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2581560/Brownies_Adventure/

A fantasy point and click adventure in traditional 1990s style. Dark humour, player choices that have impact on your outcome and hours of daft shenanigans.

- Over 75 locations
- Thousands of lines of dialogue
- Over 120 custom made sound effects
- Original soundtrack composed for the game
- Alternate outcomes and wildly varying dialogue based on player choice

In this hilarious parody adventure set in a vaguely renaissance fantasy world you play as 'Brownie'. Brownie is a sub manager of a local pilchard press in his home town of Schtinkberg. A simple man, in the midst of a mid life crisis. He awakes from a terrible dream featuring his permanently angry boss... the rest is up to you.

Follow the twists and turns of Brownie's adventure into our world (Well, Sheffield anyway) and beyond in the funniest and most ridiculous point and click to ever be solo developed by a middle aged hippy burnout.

Make choices, solve puzzles and enjoy absurd dialogue. Remember: You will be judged!

The game is currently available at itch.io
(https://beardyramblingames.itch.io/brownies-adventure)

It's a long game. It's a funny game. Please enjoy :-)

Edit: Turns out I don't think AI images based on public domain are affected. The game may yet make it to steam. Phew. Did seem wildly unfair.

Thanks again for the engine and knowledge base that is Adventure Game Studio. Also special thanks to Monkey for AGSteam

Congratulations on your release! Please also add the game to the game page/database (just link to the itch page where it says download link), and you may get some extra attention from the forum users.

Thank you so much heltenjon on both counts.

Ooo wonder what the community will make of this delightful abomination!

On it!

I finally got around to playing this. And I was entertained. The game is real fun. There are some caveats, though.

Graphics are not consistent at all. The main character even pokes fun of this, breaking the fourth wall. There are some AI backgrounds, some MS Paint work, some photos and drawings, all mixed together. So one needs to be able to see past that to enjoy the story.

The main character is a real douche. Well, there are some choices available, so I guess I made him that by solving problems that way. I'm not sure what choices are optional yet - will have to review the ending to determine that, I think. I mean, I

Now, one of my favourite AGS games is Rock'n'Roll Will Never Die, so I'm no stranger to playing characters who solve problems by killing off innocents and stealing their stuff. The kind of humour to play off this kind of bahaviour is pretty dark, though. Probably not for everyone.

And there are bugs. I found myself in a unwinnable state

and had to go back to an earlier save. There are a few occasions where you may redo actions that are probably meant to be available just once, giving you back items you already have spent.

My final gripe actually bothered me more than the above. Vital information is only given once, and I am supposed to grasp it all and remember it. That may be the clues from the mysterious clue man, or the instructions for what my next quest is. Especially when returning to the game the next day, it would be nice if this information was easily available without having to restore a saved game.

All negatives aside, I really had a blast playing this game. The author has a knack for telling a good story, and there is plenty of that dark humour baked into the twisted narrative. I was really happy when I made it outside the city, and the map opened up to reveal lots of new locations. "Yes! It's much bigger than I thought!"  The characters are well developed (well, set up for new gags, at least) and much of the humour is character-driven. I guess there also must be multiple solutions available, so there is some replayability as well. While there are flaws, I feel that the good outweigh the bad. Looking forward to the next games from you!

Thanks for taking the time to play it.

I read a few detailed reviews of BA1 that also touched on some of the points you made. My plan was to finish BA2 and then do a big update to bring BA1 more in to line. I was hesitant because certain changes break saves. Sort of waiting for a quiet patch.

BA2 is out now anyway. Bits of feedback so far suggest there is a MAJOR improvement. I actually managed to wangle some friends (and one random lad who was a fan of BA1) to play test this time... so there feedback has also been stellar. That fed a lot into the plot and direction issues from the previous.

So now THAT game is done I am going to do a major overhaul of BA1. I've started collating every review/feedback I have got off the net and am going to revise the game and get it in a better state.

Luckily I don't think BA1 is essential to enjoy BA2, it just makes it maybe a little funnier!

Hope you find your way to playing the second one. I am sure you will REALLY enjoy it if this was your assessment.

Cheers!

Edit: Thank you for taking the time to give it a whirl and sharing those insights. I've hopefully addressed a few of the bigger ones this evening.
