P.S.: ColourWise comes with a Level Editor. If you design a level, please post it on the ColourWise Boards (http://colourwise.proboards53.com/index.cgi) so other people can play it!
Downloading ;D, nice screenshot with explosion background.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
gonna download and play later :D
Great stuff. I've just played through the tutorial levels and enjoyed it lots. And I have a feeling I will enjoy messing with the editor aswell. :D
About goddamn time. Downloading!

Third place and a "meh" review, yay! :D Thanks everyone for their kind words, it is always an earthheartwarming moment receiving positive feedback from fellows AGSers!
Excellent and fun puzzle game! I'm impressed by the amount of programming it must have taken to do this.
Unfortunately...it doesn't work very well for one small portion of the population--those of us who are colorblind, like me :(.

So, next one I'll make will be SoundWise :D
maybe you could make a letter-coded patch for the game. I.e. the red box would be red, but with an R on it.
Aww hell yeah!
Been anticipating this one...

That *could* be a very reasonable solution and a quick-to-implement one! I'm sending right now the sprites to the CW GFX people so they can see if there's a way to make a ColourWise version for colourblind people.
I cannot promise you nothing right now, but I'll keep you informed in this thread!

Makes perfect sense to use symbols as "overlays" to the colours, and I think it's not too hard to implement. Letters make a poor choice because with the amount of colours in the game, it will be hard to come up with unique names when you, well, name the colours. Symbols, though- no problem. Chuzzle (http://www.gamehouse.com/gamedetails/?game=Chuzzle&navpage=downloadgames) did that, by the way- one of the very few games that actually care for such a small detail.
Congratulations on getting this a third place in the Eegra competition. Based on the other games, I think it deserved at least second place, but you can't complain about winning money for a game you were making anyway!

I *did* give a name to each colour (albeit sometimes a strange one, like "carrot"), but I agree symbols are much more friendly, and neato ;)

Thanks!
Congrats bicilotti,
This game deserves all the praise it can get, it sure took you and your team a lot of effort and work to make it.
I can see this game on other plattforms as well, mobile phones, nintendos, etc...
Great work!
Although I think Colourwise should have gotten first, 3th is good and 250 bucks is nice. :) awsome job!
Well, of course, you should make the symbols correspond to some kind of gray code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray_code), perhaps?
e.g.
| | | | | |
+ + +- +- +- +- -+- -+- -+ -+ -+ -+
| | | | | |
Ok, the hype has passed, I'm happy as a streamer to have finally managed to release it. So, a few words:
I want to thank all of my teammates; I was honoured to work with them all. I found it very stimulating developing ColourWise with you, I hope you found this journey interesting and symbiotic too!
During these four months I've managed to get to know your abilities and some of your future projects and I was impressed by such skills / visions. Best of luck to you all, I'm sure the AGS scene will hear from your fireworks
very soon.
I'd like to say "thank you" to my stickam friends too. They have been like brothers & sisters for me, very supportive and very cheerful. Thanks!

Mhhh, Ghost and I were thinking of more common symbols, but I'll get through the wiki link too see if it is feasible! Thanks!
The example I give changes one line per increment (like the colours change gradually and of course like every gray code) and also has the property that it is "inverted" for the opposites. There is also a neat symmetry in that the colours one could change to from a position are often rotated versions of the same symbol.
ColourWise for colourblinds
a colour-melting extravaganza (with symbols)
Colourwise tries to be a clever puzzle game about colours, but some of us have difficulties to discern between them. So, we decided to make a special version of ColourWise for colourblind people.
To know more head
here (http://colourwise.altervista.org/CWforCB.htm).
Can colourblind people distinguish the "seasons" inside the colour wheel?

Can colourblind people distinguish the "seasons" inside the colour wheel?
In the game is not important to distinguish the warmness or hotness of a single colour, but the "frontier" which divides the two kinds.
So the answer is "no" but it shouldn't be a problem for gameplay. Feedback is much appreciated!
Ghost has made a nice little level pack, callded "Retro Romp". To quote the author:
Retro Romp- ten levels of computer-game related, mostly medium sized mazes. They start off simple indeed and mostly require simple colour mixing, with little bonus tile puzzles.
Download it here (http://colourwise.altervista.org/3rdpartylevels.htm), and visit the CW fora (http://colourwise.proboards53.com/index.cgi) to submit your own level pack!
i'm up to level 43, and really enjoying this game. You guys did a great job. great cutscenes + artwork, and congrats on the prize as well. i'm also looking forward to scarab, which looks like fun.
thanks.
Wohoho. I am glad to see this :)
@Mordy: thanks for the kind words, for CW and Scarab. Encouraging words are always welcomed, expecially if they come from the creator of "Chronicles of the red knight"! :P (btw, still in production?)
@radio: Thanks! As a fellow chess player I'm sure you won't find difficulties finishing the main quest in less than one week! And don't think I forgot about our projects, I'm just a bit... err... on hiatus :D
For everyody else: the Main Quest of ColourWise has 73 leves in it. The last 15 of them contain a surprise / gameplay mechanics shift! So come one, beat level after level folks!
Wooooooooo!
Downloading at once.
Hey Bic! I just leaved for 4 weeks and you release it without warning! Congrat' Pal
Now you deserve that chess game. :=
yikkes! 73? I think Colourwise will keep me busy for atleast a year lol
Ahhhh.... finally I'm going to test it, what a cool surprise after returning my three weeks holiday. I read the review, great to find out that my music put them off enough to rate the game two places lower then it should've been. Well blah, let's test the game. I hope some of you did enjoy the music since it was all composed in about two weeks time. My congratulations to Francesco and all the other team members, the game already looks great judging the screenshots.
Ps. is there a next chapter to follow in the life of Colourwise (a website or a forum?)
Finally! We have managed to "delurk" Arjan!
Let me introduce you to the big AGS community: after losing a musician, Arjan replaced him and managed to pull off his hat 6 quality tunes in two weeks.
I found the compositions charming and his attitude very professional, and I strongly advise anyone to hire him for an adventure project, since he is quite good in translating "words into music".
As for you, yes, there is a ColourWise site (link here (http://colourwise.altervista.org)): here you'll find a forum where to search for/post new levels, a version of CW for colourblinds and a few reviews CW got (in which you will find many words of praise for your contribution!).

Master Dereth
a journey of wisdom by Ben304
(http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3736/screenshotqq1.png)
To my great joy, Ben304 pulled off his hat a marvellous lavelpack,
with a story behind it. You heard right, solve the puzzles, enjoy the tale, but most importantly say:
"Thank you Ben!"GO TO THE FORUM PAGE TO DOWNLOAD! (http://colourwise.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=2&action=displayhread=21&page=1)
or visit the level page for other packs (http://colourwise.altervista.org/3rdpartylevels.htm)
As usual copy/paste the .cwp in your "ColourWise - the Game" folder, watch the intro, and have fun playing it / seeing the end!
Again, thank you Mr. Chandler!
I feel dwarfed. This is teh good stuff.
*bows, Wayne's World style: I AM UNWORTHY!
(but play the pack nevertheless ;) )
Definetely a boost...way to go Ben..
I finally got around to playing Ben's level pack and I found it quite fun. I wonder if you couldn't implement something into the level editor to allow a person to enter a RunAGSGame title for intro and end cutscene purposes? The executables would need some kind of variable to check whether they've been launched from inside colourwise so they can't be run outside of it, probably.

When I was scripting ColourWise I had this idea to allow the level designer to put some simple cutscenes in their packs. I thought of using
DynamicSprite.CreateFromFile
to import backgrounds / sprites from external files.
I even wrote down a bit of it, but the dreaded deadline was approaching and the whole thing got dumped.
Now that Ben made this wonderful little levelpack I see using a different AGS executable is
way more simple for me to script (and for 3rd party designer to use/tweak as he/she likes).

True and probably simple to implement.
I'm working on a shabby MAGS project, but once I've finished it I'll see what I can do: maybe the time has come for ColourWise v1.5!
Thanks, ProgZ :), and yes, I think it'd be a great idea to allow us to place cutscenes in the game instead of mucking around with passwords and such in order to ensure people don't read the end before they earn it.
Quote from: bicusing a different AGS executable is way more simple for me to script (and for 3rd party designer to use/tweak as he/she likes).
AGS is basically the
ideal thing for creating cutscenes, for me, anyhow. Waaaaay more flexible than some inbuilt method (allowing for easy animation implementation, alpha channels and such).
If you could basically specify an intro .exe and a outro .exe, with some way of making sure that the intro kicks straight to the first level, this would be perfect, I think.
Would certainly encourage me to create more levelpacks ;)
And instead of a password you can use Encrypt module(not sure if it works with exes) , I'm sure bic will handle it. He's scripted what seemed unscriptable.
OSOM level pack comin'!
OSOM like Outrageous Set of Otherworld Mazes, or Overflowing Sheen Omg Marvelous!, or even Obscure Self-Originated Madness.. it's not given to know (yet)
Or maybe just like a way-to-much simplified (italian) pronounce for 'awesome', like the not 1, nor 2, zomg not even 3, but 4 awards ColourWise earned at the latest AGS Awards 2008.
(http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2950/aagsawardoj6.png) (http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2950/aagsawardoj6.png) (http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2950/aagsawardoj6.png) aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand yep one more (http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2950/aagsawardoj6.png)
I thought it would have been nice to build up some levels, pretty simple I must say, to celebrate this unexpected success and thank every single person who enjoyed this game and voted for it, and of course all the comrades of CW team! Very gooooooooooooooood job guys! And hooray for Bicilotti 8)
[Ghost, i guess it's time for a cake]
The OSOM pack can be found here (http://www.box.net/shared/3pzbssngnv) from box.net, or from the "3rd party levels" page on ColourWise site (here (http://colourwise.altervista.org/3rdpartylevels.htm))
Have fun!
Man, I just recall all those conversations we had Bic about the game's acceptance... people thanks god, saw it my way ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Several congrats to anyone on the team including myself..and especially Bicilotti..
