Alrighty! First game completed! After years of fiddling now and then I managed to make this and I am very proud.
I admit I am not very good at this, nor do I know the power of AGS. But I have tried my best and hope to have made a fun game people will enjoy and hope to make a sequel if people like it. I swear it gets better the more you play. I learned more as I went along.

Story: You play as Barry. A recent creation ready to go on adventure. But the adventure is awful, the characters are terribly drawn and he is basically just very unimpressed. It is up to you to help him find the creator and stop this nonsense once and for all!

Criticisms and improvements are of course welcome! :) I hope you give it a chance.

AHHHH I've been waiting for this one!

Will try soon, feeling a bit sick at the moment, I'll leave some comments when I'm done. :D

Paoul

I hope it doesn't disappoint!

I took your game for a spin and so far so good! The graphics are rubbish, but it's part of its charm and it ralates to the story...:) so it's all good.

My favourite bit so far:

Spoiler
Even though no objective has been given by the creator it's quite clear all the time what to do. First room, haystack, pillows, barred window... a classic adventure game situation. Then you come outside and there's a living - though really badly drawn with basic crappy animations- world out there which feels bizzarely original. I got to Christopherson's house so far, and I must say it's a strange mix of Alice in Wonderland and Mighty Boosh with some Monthy Python thrown in for good measure. Where you lack in graphics you make up for with imagination. Good first effort!!! Keep it up !!! I'll say more when I've finished it!:)

Thanks for that! Really appreciate it!

When I started making the game, I knew my biggest downfall was my drawing ability. While I did dumb down my drawings on purpose in some areas, I am quite a bad artist. It just made sense to relate it to the story so my graphics don't get ridiculed as much as they would have done.

And you built your game around it, so you managed to turn it into your advantage!

I feel like this is a nice little game and I'm sure a lot of people around the forum will play it sooner or later!:)

Oh, in the future, remember to correct the typos!!! I don't mind personally but some folks can be very picky about little details like that!:)

Paoul

Thanks, I'm in the process of going through all the typos now! Any questions, let me know :)

Paoul

Ok, I looked through and tried to find typos and managed to fix a few minor errors but couldn't find anything major that could affect the game. If there are any big typo errors, please feel free to tell me so I can figure it out :)

Heh. A game with meh graphics but with good gameplay can be a great game, a game with beautiful artwork but lousy gameplay can never be a good game. Based on the posts in this thread I'm definitely going to give this game a go.

Too bad I myself am more into "art" then into telling compelling stories :(

Captain Ricco

this game is very nice, in spite the lazyly ade graphics

there are some bugs, the most common is beeing able to get stuff again, everything you can get once, you can get at least one more time the same way

i got stuck at
Spoiler

the lab part, dont know where to find the smidgen of enseble or whatever...
and the "all the love a boy can give"

You can open a thread in hints and tips. Anyway:

Spoiler

- Examine the two table at the background in the entrance hall, in particular the holes in the table tops.
- Try to open the closets in the lab. One door doesn't shut tight, although it doesn't open.
- There is a note in the room to the far left.
That is all I found so far. Also, I didn't find anything to analyze the mixture that I prepared in the lab.

This is a funny game, I actually didn't mind the graphics at all because it was so cleverly incorporated into the story. So if you hadn't pointed that you're a bad artist, I would have just thought that it was part of the art direction, bad on purpose to support the story.

I really liked the story which I thought was very clever and funny. (It reminded me a bit of Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions, where the creator also exists in the creation) Haven't finished it yet as I got stuck in some puzzles, but I'll try it out again later.

Some suggestions for improvements (maybe for future games): Maybe you could remove inventory items once you're not supposed to use them anymore? And also I found the change of rooms a bit weird sometimes at places with doors, that you had to interact with it, just walking would have been a lot smoother I think.

Just my two cents, I hope you can use it for something in the future. :)

That's what it was!!!! Thanks for pointing that out!!!

I'd say keep going in that direction but in the next game add more "psychological depth" on top of the crazy sense of humour:)

Paoul

Ok, thanks for all the replies! I will answer some questions on puzzles in the hints and tips forum :)

I admit, some of the puzzles are a bit awkward but I tried blending them all together.
I will try and fix as many bugs as I can!

the next game could be
"What happened at the trapdoor"  ;D
i like the sense of humour in this game, its silly and funny
Spoiler

and i loved the sexy sexy robot dance :P

Haha great idea! If anyone has completed it yet, then they know I will definitely be making the inevitable sequel! I could do both!

Has anyone managed to finish it yet? If so, I would ve very grateful for a review. It would help me out a lot just like these comments have :)

Captain Ricco

i have finished it, managed to solve all the puzzles by myself, excluding the
Spoiler
melting the metal box with hot water?? that was very counter intuitive! And i even tried melting it with the acid water from the sink. The only thing i didnt try was to use hot water. And anoher thing that gave me trouble was figuring that that tree statue had an rectangular base(to fit in the hole), you should make that more obvious.
You couldve made the part you play as mugusa and the robot bigger, with some puzzle involed as well.
But i thought the last battle was very funny! loved the songs used. Though, i think you shouldve made chris more charismatic or funny, cause he played a big part of the game and was just this idiot the whole time

I hope the sequel has some more serious graphics, at least not bad on purpose would be good ;D

but all in all a good game, kept me playing even though i didnt knew what to do at times(took me a while to even see the spores)

and try to fix the bugs and remove the items you wont be using anymore! by the end of the game i picked up every item you could get one more time(just for fun), my inventory had like 12 things :P

Paoul

Excellent comments. It made me laugh. Everything you mentioned makes complete sense and I will take them all into account!

Thank you :)
