Release more or die!
Truly great game! I'm reviewing this in the next issue of the ezine.
Great! I have been waiting for this since you posted your first screenshots long time ago. I got scared already something happened to it, so happy now :D
wow, great game. Hilarious!!
Great game Duzz, I haven't got far yet, but I like what I see.
Excellent stuff
thanks all,
QuoteI'm reviewing this in the next issue of the ezine.
i'm looking forward to reading it vel =) thanks.

I'm toying with the idea of having more little episodes based around the same character, like 'Grr! Daniel goes to the seaside' or something... only time will tell i guess...

Oh the possibilities! :D
I loved this game! Loved the animations, loved the gruesome humour, loved the novel anger interface thing. Loved it all, great job!
EDIT: well, except the spelling. I noticed quite a lot of spelling mistakes, more than I'd expect from a game of this length. Still, it didn't take too much away from the game's quality :)
Heh heh. More 'Grr' games would be great. I love shameless sequels. Oh, er, and shameful ones too.
What a wonderful game indeed. After I posted my problem here I already found out, I could solve my problems by senseless violence again, hehehehe. Wonderful humor, wonderful character designs, wonderful texts. And nice song, Duzz ;) Great!
I have to agree with the audience here. I have recently finished Grr! Bearly Sane and I appreciated much the anger meter feature and the atmosphere of the game. I think making a sequel is a great idea, but you should keep the game concentrated just in a few locations with high number of hotspots, characters and possible interactions, which fits the style most.
Maybe make it non-linear...?
Great work Duzz!!! I'd like to see a full lenght game with the same character interface and anger-meter system!
PS: i'm stuck here
Spoiler
I've taken the gun. freed the seagull from the machine and kicked the dog... what I've to do now???
Played the whole thing yesterday. I love it. The graphics are wonderful, the music fits perfectly, and the scripting is brilliant..
*APPLAUSE*
Eliantoguestmode:
Spoiler
You should have a brick (from the skill tester) and a can of spray paint (from when you bust the vending machine). Combine these.
Wow. Just played it some, and wow.. Great stuff!
An unusual interface though, but I got used to it.
I'm just too tired now, so I'll hit the bed and try more tomorrow morning. :)
yeah, i did go a bit crazy with the interface...
thanks for your praise everyone, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside... which sucks cause it's too damn hot today.... ;)
nod the interface completely had me confuddled at first, you may want to include a readme on how to use it next time, or maybe a popup on the gui itself (hurt, use, so on and so forth) Even though it appeared in the upper corner, it was a bit small for me to notice (In fact it wasn't until just before I finished the game that I realized that there was a label up there)
All in all pretty good, I just wish I had the patience to kick the dog 100 times then finish the game....
i thought i described the gui pretty well in the readme, i had pictures and everything, and I warned people to read it in the installer too....
but no-one reads readme's anymore... *sob* =)
The game is Awesome Duzz, I love the whole interface, the graphics, animations and music are great. The Anger Meter is original for an adventure and well incorporated, Although it's short, It still takes a bit of time to figure it out, well until you figure out how to get angry consistently.
almost brilliantly scripted except for a few things:
Spoiler
*using the Gun or Poster on various things eg. Target or Vending Machine results in the message "No I need all the money I can get"
*Similarly if you use the Rope on things it gets a message about being a brick
*Also if you use the chips on the vending machine it thinks it's the gun
*You can keep getting the rope.
*When the boss is dead, if you look at the booth, it still gives you a message "Must Kill"
*In some places, the first time you use an object on something it doesn't display what you used it on, but after that it works fine eg. If you use the poster on the back door, it doesn't display "back door" in the message the first time but everytime after it does. ie it says something like "you can't use the pink poster on the" (note: I tested this again and couldn't get it to work, maybe another object has to be used first not the poster, but it was a speech type message not the gui text window)
*After I kicked the dog Twice, once from vending machine, then from the skill tester he was running around in the booth screen, then I left and came back and the dog was positioned in the air off a walkable area. like this:
A game well worth playing, and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.
Ummm, and I don't know how Alynn missed the beautiful readme, which is also titled "ReadMeYouBastard". Quite appropriate ;D

Great innovative game!

"Organise" some food for the young man at the shooting gallery :)
you have to do the food thing first then you can free the seagull
Thanks for the bug report Tim, That'll learn me for adding stuff after beta testing! =P
I thought I'd fixed that dog bug though... I could never replicate it. Maybe it's something to do with the ViewPort...
I'll figure it out, and fix up the rest of that stuff too,
thanks =)
EDIT: ok, I fixed all those bugs (I hope) and did a spell check on the script, man I suck at spelling... but it's all good now =D
Well done Duzz ;D
Bloody brilliant, great art, great animations, and a moral to the story ;D
well done mate

more help:
Spoiler
I used the coin on the vending machine and the bag got stuck. So how do I get food?
Nostradamus:
Spoiler
go talk to the boss untill your anger meter goes red, now go back and hurt the vending machine
Great game, i loved every second of it!
Wonderful game, I enjoy it!
Spoiler
I have killed the boss, I can't move the body. I have the rope "in mind". What do I do now? P.S. I can't tie the end of the rope to the dead boss.
Spoiler
you need to be at least moderatly angry to use the rope with the boss. Try 'hurt bench' or using the skill tester to get more angry
How do you use the Skill Tester? I have the coins from the vending machine.
Spoiler
Put the money in the slot. Click the mouse once to start moving up, then click again to start moving right. You need to try to align the claw with the seagull, then click again to stop. If you're in the right place, the claw will grab the bird...
This game is incredible! The skill tester scripting is awesome, and the GUI is great IMO. I was pretty short but not too easy and there is always something to play with when I'm stuck - you wouldn't believe how fun this is to have. Does it diaplay a different message according the number of times you kick the dog? I would really love to see sequels to this :D
Btw, there were some so-called 'glitches' with the automated messages (which by the way are brilliantly hilarious :)) - if an object has "a" at the start of the name it sometimes interferes with the message structure, like you'd get:
Spoiler
Just think how you'd feel if if the 'a button' started proding you. Of course I didn't get this exactly, but something similar. Either that ir I'm senile and got "It's amazing.. It's Incredible! It's... Broken Vending Machine!" Which is only slightly off, or maybe the thing is called Broken Vending Machine. How was your day BVM? ;)
Anyways, this game is addictive despite it's length and linearity (there are several parts where i didn't quite feel that it was linear, either, so well done :)). I gotta play this again. and again.. and again... :D :D :D
Congratulations on a simply wonderful game, with such delightfully sadistic humor. My kind of humor....
My favorite quote:
Spoiler
Oh my god! What have I done?
Just kidding! Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.
I laughed out loud! :)
Woooow, what a beautiful game! The colorful graphics suit perfectly for the sadistic atmosphere. ;D I kicked the dog 20 times before completing the game. What's the limit of times you can do it? I mean, how many times do you have to kick it so it doesn't change the message anymore?
Spoiler
The part I laughed the most was when you get the seagull with the mechanical hand and it gets stuck in the hole and says: "YOU GREAT CRETIN! If I'd fit through the hole, I would have just CLIMBED OUT MYSELF!". The seagull looked really hilarious stuck there, I laughed my lungs out... well.. almost.
I loved that part.
Karius & GinnyW: The message isn't changed depending on how many times you kick the dog, It just uses the same random insult generator that's used as the default talk interaction.
GinnyW: I know what you mean about some of the random interactions, I gave up trying to get them all perfect...
Just completed it (finally!). Very nice game, the animations were really nice. The vending machine launch piece was my fav.
Yeah, suited that kid right :D hehe
Anyway, I was wondering, since the MIDi device didn't work for me:\ , were there any sound effects and music? (well music was mentioned in the credits)..
This game is hilarious! Yeah I loved the parts where:
Spoiler
Chokey is stuck in the hole. Also his talking animation. And "Die Bench!" :D The game was hilarious every moment of playing!
Also I just replayed it and saw that the message is automated with insults, it just seemed the first time that there was just one insult so I thought it was prewritten ;)
And I loved the readme too!
edit: Oh yeah, never mind, I restarted and it all worked, and the sound effects are just as good as the rest of the game! So is the music, and the song you recorded for the end is great! :)
Duzz.....this is excellent.
You must have spent a lot of time on it...
I`ve only just started playing but felt it was worth letting you know you did good kid........
foz
Edit:- finished.........one of the best ags games i`ve played...your attention to detail was excellent.......i presume it took a long time to make.....
A seqeul would take less time as you have the main character anims.......please make more of the same.
What happens if you kick the dog 100 times?
Excellent game, Duzz!
I had been looking forward to this game the day you posted it in the Games in Production forum, and it's even better than what I expected.
I loved the cartoon graphics and colors, characters and backgrounds, animations, interactions, interface, and the dialog. Pretty much everything. ;)
nothing different happens if you kick the dog 100 times... well, nothing I know of. only one way to find out though I guess. ;)
The game took me about 6 months from conception to completion, but there were many times when I didn't work on it for ages, so it's hard to know excactly how long it took.
I havn't had any great ideas for a sequel yet, but I'm sure something will come to me. and yes the sequel should be easier, cause I can re-use the interface and main character.
If anyone has any great ideas, feel free to pm me =)
cheers
Howbout Grr! Unbearable?? EH??
This is fucking great!
laughed my ass off!
man, that's awesome. I'm curious - was there an easier way to get my anger level up instead of playing the SkillTester over and over?
Try punching the bench over & over or just talking to the boss.
Spoiler
if you're not angry enough to put use the rope with the boss, you'll have to either 'hurt bench', or use the skill tester, at all other times there's better ways of getting angry
My god, this was so funny. i have beaten the game, and the anger meter was a good new refreshing thingamabob!

"How to be a Complete Bastard" had a piss-o-meter, where you could only perform some actions sober or drunk, or somewhere in-between. Nice to see another game using this idea.
A while ago when I saw the screenshots and animations for this, I was really looking forward to it.
I randomly went to the "Completed Games" forum the other day, and saw that it was completed.
I downloaded and played it. It took me probably 10 minutes at most to beat, and I loved it. It inspired me to make a similar short game of my own.
Make another with the same character!
How about you have to go back to the carnival, sneak around cops (using your brain, not some stealth-like thing), and hide all the evidence that shows you killed the guy ('cause there's probably a ton there).
I don't think the sequel should be set in the same place, It'd feel like I was just re-hashing too much. I liked the other Idea you pm'd me though, I've been thinking along the lines of dan trying to find another job.
The thing is, a sequel would need to be bigger, better, and have an actual story, but keep the same 'feel' as the first. If a sequal is just 'more of the same' I don't think it'd be worth doing. (at the moment I can't even think of a good reason that dan would have to keep wearing the bear suit :) )
Thanks for the input though, it's very much appreciated. =)
How about "Dan goes to school"? Dan hasnt graduated and he needs a diploma for finding a job? Just a thought...
If you want to keep him in the bear costume, it could be really hard to come up with a storyline. Not impossible, but difficult.
The best would be to come up with something that happens directly afterward. Such as, like I said, running from the cops, and then possibly returning to remove evidence. And then from there, maybe we could see the lovely man under the costume, and he could go further on more quest (such as finding a job), if you want the game to be larger.
Dan wants to go to do something, but the bear costume has become stuck to his body.
Spoiler
At the end of the game, isn't his suit hanging on a stand though?
yeah, the only reason for him to have to wear the suit is if all his normal clothes are inaccessable, or he has to work somewhere that requires the suit...
...or perhaps because the police know what his face looks like, and he has to hide it.
I don't really want to show Dan's face at all if I can help it, it'd be like when they showed Dr Claw's face on inspector gadget. That sucked.
The more I think about it, the more i think a sequel wouldn't be worth doing, unless I come up with a grand idea. I think my time would be better spent on other projects. For now I'm getting DuzzQuest finished, and we'll see after that =)
wait, i just got an idea: 'aliens attack from the moon, and start frying people with these heat rays thingo's, but Daniel is immune due to his asbestos lined suit, and he alone can save earth...' it'll need a love intrest, and some kind of plot twist near the end, but I can work on that as I go.
Hey, the alien idea is good. But how about this?
News Reporter: The two bodies have been recovered from an incident yesterday that occured at an amusement park. The prime suspect and employee of the park, Dan, is still at large.
A small plane lands on a landing strip on an arctic tundra.
Dan: Get out! Get out or I'll Shoot you!
Pilot: Oh please no, it's so cold!
the pilot is thrown out of the plane. he stands for a minute shivering
as Dan steps out of the plane behind him. He's holding a big gun.
Dan: Alright, now where are we?
Pilot: Where you asked! Please, I'm freezing!
Dan: Where!?
Pilot: The... the... brrrr.. the North Pole! (collapses and turns blue,)
Dan: Great! Hmm, I guess this suit isn't useless afterall.
Suddenly a small figure appears running toward Dan.
Elf: Help! Heeeeeeelp!
We learn that Santa Clause is a cruel slave driver forcing all his elves to work in a sweatshop not far from the landing strip. Dan set outs to set Santa straight and save all the oppressed elves.
[I'm actually pretty excited to see your take on Santa's Workshop, I think your style would be quite fitting.]
I loved Grr!, but I have no idea what happened in the end. For a minute I thought Daniel hung himself, but then I decided against it.

Well, I think it was supposed to look like that but then the camera pans to the right and you see that it's just a shadow of the bear suit hung on a rack, so it's pretty much a happy ending.
That game is going in my top 5. Awesome work!
My top 5 too.
I found a review (http://www14.brinkster.com/loopylarry/Grr.html) of this game...
Those screenshots look great. I'd love to play it but when I try to open the game I get an error message reading 'invalid file format.'
OMFG!
even's idea is amazing, really great, Infact i think he deservs an oscar. You should really keep this in mind Duzz.

Instead of a bear suit why not put him some other kind of costume.....
Like the guy outside a mc donalds...dressed as ronald..
or someone working on a film set....after being made up as a monster or alien for the film..
Or the plot could be set at fancy dress party ..where one of the guests is murdered or something and he turns up in his bear suit ready to party...
just a few ideas.....the last ones probaly the route i`d take as you could leave him in his bear suit and not have to animate him again....
i enjoyed your game a nd loook forwar to what ever you come up with...
good luck..
fOz
YES! Put him in a different costume, but equally uncomfortable and pathetic. Make him like a mascot for a B-league team that always loses...in like a giant duck suit or something. Call it "Quack: Ducking work."
P.S. The game was unbelievably cruel in the funniest way possible. Awesome!
Sorry I havn't been posting recently, I've been working on DuzzQuest a lot, we've had a lot of beach weather, deep in ocean blues of absinth and all that. =)
Even; I was being sarcastic with that aliens idea (sarcasm really doesn't work on these forums does it :P) But your north pole idea is really pretty good, that way it could be a sequel to both 'Grr!' and 'Good Santa, Bad Santa' everyone knows that santa only uses his so called "elves" so no one complains that he's using child labour, and the whole factory at the north pole is surely a tax dodge....
I like your ideas too foz, I'm thinking maybe a person finds the suit in a rubbish bin somewhere, (lightning strikeing in the background) and decides to wear it to a party/go trick-or-treating/whatever. implying that the suit is the source of the evil or whatever. That would make writing a plot much easier.
Awesome game, Duzz! This, along with a couple other games, is the first AGS game I've played in a long time, and it's great! A little sadistic, but so funny. I loved kicking the dog and dropping that vending machine on the punk kid.
Definitely make a sequel! Make it longer than this one, too ;)
I started the game. I observed the graphics. I was impressed. Then I tried to play. XXL characters and CMI3-style GUI took awhile to get used to. I loved it. Ancient adventuregamer inside me woke. I was already comparing that to best adventure games I've ever played. Then, suddenly, game ended...! Grrrrr!!!!
Excellent work! Make some more!
