Title: Hour Games
Post by: Helm on Wed 16/10/2002 00:51:04
The last one got purged, so the Hour Game thread is back with a vengance!!!1

This is mine, http://www.sylpher.com/helm/Pyramid.zip

This is butchers, http://www.geocities.com/kyriakosthebutcher/2000.zip

this is commatoes' http://www.tbns.net/commatoes/terlethour.zip

and this was Grundislav's http://www.agagames.com/grundislav/games/hourgame.zip

The topic was "Humourous and absurd main character deaths". This went alright.

If you want to make a new contest, hop on to #ags and propose. Somebody's guhguhCommatoesguhguh always available for a Hour Game. If you want to add to an existing topic, do so. If you want to tell us something about the Hour Games, this is the thread in which to do it.

I really enjoyed being consumed by Leonard Maltin's floating head!

the shark one was great too! and what an ingenious place to hide the fishing rod!

but I'm STUCK IN PYRAMID! honestly! I can't do anything! is this the game? you're supposed to die trying to find what to do?

;)

(i am REALLY stuck!)

USE jeep, walk up, USE crowbar on stone slab.

A world of thrilling adventure and daring ensues...

However, to get the crowbar you must click ctrl-I, and it's black and really small, so it's next to impossible to find there.

Bad Helm! :)

Okay, I tried my own hour game out, using the same theme as the first four hour games in this thread. Now geocitites is being an ass so I had to put the file in my school web space, which I'm sure is in some way not allowed, but what the hell, I want to release the game, I don't want to wait on one small file to not load. I am giving a link to the school one and the geocities one, that way if I get geocities to take my file I can quickly remove mine before it might be detected, though I doubt it will I really don't know. Enjoy.

I meant after you used the hand on the jeep, Helm. To use it, you must press ctrl-I, and to find it in there, you must click randomly in the black box because the crowbar is 2 pixels tall/wide.... unless you updated it before you put up this thread.

But inventory items are usually always displayed left and top, so I got it first click, esseb. It did take me a while to figure out that whole inventory thing, and after so many diffrent thoughts of what it could be I finally hit upon it and...well...I won't ruint he endind.

Title: Re:Hour Games
Post by: Helm on Sat 19/10/2002 00:31:25
I dunno about you guys, but I hit TAB for the inventory gui. Anyway, esseb is partially right, this confusion is all due to the fact that I was too bored to make a closeup graphical representation of the crowbar.

In many ways I consider this my flawed masterpiece...

Post by: Fuzzpilz on Sat 07/12/2002 22:47:44
Today, the first hour game gauntlet was held on IRC. We were supposed to make five hour games in six hours. We failed miserably, except CommaToes, who made games for all three themes. (we didn't even get to five)

#1: The game must contain Al Lowe.

Ghormak: http://www.agagames.com/ghormak/gmk_onehour.zip

#2: The game must contain a fork and a greasy rag as inventory items.

#3: The main character must be an AGS user.

Someone in the chat room told me to make an hour game.

I've never made a game before.
So, this is my first time out of the nest.

And in the tradition of hour games, it took me two and a half.  (Do making graphics count as the time, if not it's only and hour and a half)

And yes it's based on a Roald Dahl story.

Well, Yesterday I attempted to make an hour game at the same time as Earwigz and Scotch, with the theme "Little girls break into a weapons factory and decommision all the weapons"(Guess who provided the topic)
Anyway, mine took 3 hours, but has a lot less hentai than the others, and a lot more quality animations. ::)
The Berry Battalion (http://magstip.topcities.com/berry.zip)

EDIT : URL Changed to version with no bugs. You may have to right click and 'save as' though.

Here is my shameful, sell out, happy go lucky Japanese style hour game based on the theme "A group of little girls break into a munitions factory".  It features all these great things :
1. Absolutely NO animation what so ever, except for talk animations.
2. A total of 1 room!
3. 3 main characters, and you can actually play one of them!
4. Badly drawn little girls.
5. Horrible, stereotypical dialogue.
Enjoy this game by Earwigz Imperial Toy Consern, "Happy Happy Terror Girl"

Here's a small game a made for an hour-game competition with Grundislav and Fuzzpilz. The rules were: Gold has to be mentioned in a game (this came from a Goldmember discussion, naturally :-)), there had to be a baseball bat and the main character had to have some kind of strange superstition. Strange enough, it took me only an hour and a half for this masterpiece. Ha!

Made (art, programming and all), in under an hour.

As for contest rules, we usually just make them up on IRC and go from there. However, most of the more recent entries seem to be 1 person deciding to do it on their own.

There was an hour game thing announced in irc but I'm not sure if anyone really set ground rules.  Anyway, I told someone I could make a quick shooter and they said do it so an hour and change later....

INTESTINATOR!

Yes, as the valiant pilot of the experimental Intestinator enter a man's bowels and save him from the horror of communist occupation and bizarre alien bosses.

I've also included the source code (which looks terrible) for those who would like to get an idea of how to do a simple shooter.  I have commented it, but be aware that I threw this together in a very short time so the functions and such are not the way I would make them were I investing real time on it.  The graphics are also haphazard since I spent a majority of the time on the code and the two chiptunes!

The Secret Of Hamster Island (http://koti.mbnet.fi/mwe/game_zip/Secret_of_Hamster_Island.zip) by me, Pablo. (6.3 Mb)

Pmdee also made a game but AFAIK he didn't upload it. I didn't even get to play it. :'( He can put it here himself later if he feels like it.

I made an hour game Witness! (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?category=0&action=detail&id=785)

The rules were "You are a witness to a crime". That's all.
I actually completed it in about 4 to 5 hours. Left-click to examine, Right-click to talk.

My first game.

Took 2.5 hrs and only that quick because everything is borrowed from elsewhere.

I made this just to see how difficult it is to use this AGS and make a simple game. To me it was a sucess. Now i will try somthing original.

Try not to laugh too hard :P

While it wasn't part of any semi-official competition, Pixel Hunt (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=923) was written in one hour (most of which was spent hunting down funky sound effects on the internet ;D )

Don't forget the fact it took you another two months to notice this and reply to it, and that I needed another twenty-ish days. ;)

That's because the good ol' hourgame activity is degrading.

To celebrate my comeback (I was in a hospital ._.) I made yet another crappy hourgame.

To quote my blogue,
QuoteIt is called “Neighbour Mountain”. It is mostly about neigbours, mountains and queer artists. There are some harsh content in it, so don’t download if you’re underage.

Well, there was a hourgame compo dedicated to Pmdee's birthday, or something.

Winners:
1. CodeJunkie's Roger finds treasure (http://www.sendspace.com/file/9096r0)

2. Babar's Treasure of Obese Bob (http://www.lumpcity.co.uk/~babar/zips/Treasure.rar)

3. Akatosh's Fuck you I'm corpse! (http://www.sendspace.com/file/mb86y3)

I also participated with Leo the Gravedigger's Adventure (http://misendeavour.com/?t=file&f=leothegravedigger.rar), but didn't win anything.

A .rar file with all the games is here (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dyjmgqiz2t2).
