Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Spheres

Nazis! Floozies! And loads of spheres in this super short let's-get-into-the-mood-for-the-season game.
My first AGS coding project, but I had loads of help from the rest of the FoY team (music and SFX by m0ds, coding help and bugsquashing by DKH, animation by Nacho and Big Brother).
Anyway, download it from BarnettCollege.com (http://www.barnettcollege.com) and have a bit of fun.
Ok. Actually just one nazi. And one floozy (but don't call her that to her face).
Woohoo, I'm suprised this was read 8 times before me.
Nice little game, Miez. Thankyou. :)
Seriously funky stuff, Miez - I really like what you did with this!!! You really succeeded with your first AGS project, that's for sure! Nice job!
Here's the DB entry

Have an extremely productive & fun year everyone :)
That was a cool short game. Congrats on your debut. The ending made me laugh. I loved the music and the design of that "set-up."
Nice one!
Found a bug though .. (sorry...) (or is it an easer egg? ;D)
When at Himavat, use the can on the exit for a very special effect...

Whoo! no, that's a bug allright. :-[ We'll have that fixed asap.
While you're at it, found another strange thing (or two)...
Spoiler
- USE the doorways or looking at them result in strange texts (like Why would I do that or I'm not going to try that...) but you'll use them anyway.
- The Carvings hotspot at Himavat isn't always visible. I haven't been able to figure out when it becomes available but most of the time it's not. Not that it's relevant for the game but still...

Hmm yes - that first one I can fix
The second one is intentional ... ;)
:'(
I get this after the screen 7 logo:

Odd! To be honest though, I still haven't been able to get this game to work on my XP machine :(
Haha, that was fantastic, Miez. :D

??? I used it on XP without any problems.
What I've noticed, but that was with older versions, that AGS sometimes is a bit fussy about the path you're playing the game from. If it is too long, contains too many spaces, other characters or something like that, you can get strange messages.
A suggestion is to move the game to a folder with less than 8 characters as close to the root as possible. (I normally use D:\AGSGAMES) and that works fine. Once I had this message and that was solved by moving the game from D: to C:.
Maybe this helps..
That could very well be it, I'll try. But this is the FIRST AGS game I've ever played on my XP machine that doesn't work. The screen comes up black, no sound or music, the computer becomes extremely slow... Gah.
It works fine on Vista, but who am I to give Vista any credit? ;)
Well, I know this is probably just something I'm not seeing, but I played for twenty minutes and gave up...I couldn't even figure out how to get out of the first set of rooms. I literally tried every interaction on every hotspot on the main screen, and the two rooms with the god statues, and tried using the red herring can on everything. I even slowly swept my mouse over every inch of each screen to make sure I wasn't missing a hotspot. As far as I can tell, there's nothing I can do. So...
Spoiler
Is this game a practical joke, and that's why he's got the "red herring?"
Or is that thing you mentioned about the Carving hotspot some random element that I just kept missing, and I can't proceed until it shows up?
I'd really like to know, because this looks really great.
Strange Visitor:
Spoiler
Look at the crack in the wall.
Do you mean the
Spoiler
"narrow gap" in the main room? Because if I look at it, he just tells me there's a gap, and it looks very narrow. If I use it, he tells me he won't go in because there might be snakes. If I talk to it, there's no answer. And if I use the can on it, he won't because he might not get it back. I tried repeating all these a few times, with the same results. And I can't find any other cracks in any of the rooms...aggggh! :)
Strange Visitor:
Spoiler
Talk to Shelly again. Other options are available now. Don't be affraid to offend or challenge her a bit..
Heh...
Spoiler
Grrr...I'd already tried goading her about being fat, then looking at the hole again, I just didn't notice the "You might not fit" option slid in between her previous dialogs. Gah! Anyways, thanks for the hints guys.
EDIT: HA! Great ending. :)
Wow, thanks for that game Miez! It was a pleasure to play it. Nice graphics, nice music, just like in the old days. For you and the whole FoY team just the best wishes ;). Keep up the great work.

Ok, fiddled around with it a little and removed 1 bug (the use can of herring with particle accelerator "use can of herring with exit in the Himavat room" bug). Also fixed another potential problem (note to self: do not make functions with names that are the same as predefined AGS constants. "unhandled_event()" is a BAD name for a function!).
If you want this fixed version, just reload the game from the BarnettCollege home page (http://www.barnettcollege.com).
And thanks for all the positive feedback people! ;D I'm glad you're enjoying this little experiment, have a great year!
Heh. That was a fun little game. Backgrounds looking good as ever Miez. :)
Thanks dude! :)
Perfect ;D
It's always a pleasure to see your backgrounds, Miez, and you've beaten m0ds to actually finishing an Indy game! Hooray!
Great game! ;D.
Congrats Miez! Great game! ;D
My only critisism is the slightly wonky character art for Indy (because his legs are too far apart from the back, and some of the shading is off) and the slightly rough character movement of Indy and Shelly right at the end of the intro.
That said, the game made me chuckle. :=

Oh, I completely agree. That Indy sprite is the "old" sprite for FoY (we have a much prettier one now - but getting it into this game was just too much work ;) ) and if I could be bothered to put more time in this I would definitely animate the "let's climb into this thing" moment instead of just cutting from A to B.
But my focus is on FoY now, as "Spheres" is just a little joke game ;D
Considering it's your first game, it's suprisingly well polished, and learning to code will come in handy when you're pushing for the FoY deadline and there's the inevitalbe slew of bugs! I'd make a comment about how poor my first game was, but I still haven't made any progress in all it's 4 years since I started tinkering around... ::)

EDIT: So we're looking at the sort of art that we saw from the German soldier and Shelly for Indy, right?
No screens?

No screens?
It's a three screen game. It looks like an Indiana Jones game.
There's not much more you could disern from screenshots.
An absolute hoot of a game. A hoot I say. What an enjoyabale way to spend my lunch break.
Makes my mouth water at how much fun "FOY" is going to be.
Great game, congrats!
A little bug: try to "Use" the exit on the right room. I don´t know if it happens on the left room too.
It was a very cute present/game.
thank you.

5 screens, actually.

Yep - that one's been fixed. Just download the game again from the website (www.barnettcollege.com).

You could discern that it looks cool. As someone who essentially never downloads a game without seeing a screenshot, let me help out:

Love the game, by the way! It's just silly enough to make a great season's greetings.
Oh that was so sweet. :) Good work!
That really was a cute little game, and it made me chuckle a couple of times, too.
The only thing is that the constant cursor switching was a bit annoying.
But other than that, really well done.
And, of course, it looks fantastic.
Jolly good show, old bean.
Great work to all involved, now stop delaying the hopefully inevitable FOY.
Oh gosh i can't wait until the FOY game is released! Gosh! Seriously I have been monitoring the website for at least a year I think? Hopefully it will be released soon. But in the mean time I'm going to play this!
I don't know if I'm the first person to mention this, but running on Vista is a bit problematic... there's only an option fo 320x200 when you run winsetup, so it can only be run in a window, which is too small to play it properly. Any chance of making it possible to play in 640x400, which Vista can handle though obviously it will look exactly the same.
Cheers,
Dave
Great game, when I realized the "tree shape" I started laughing
